You can keep archived revival meetings available as a continuous YouTube livestream by sending prerecorded video through an encoder—either one running on a local computer or a cloud service that loops uploaded files. First confirm the channel can go live and that the church has the necessary rights; then configure and test the stream before sharing it with viewers. YouTube does not guarantee an archive for a stream longer than 12 hours, so continuous playback and a dependable recording archive need separate plans.

Before you build the stream

Confirm YouTube live-stream eligibility

YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. Check the channel’s current status and start activation in advance using YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Confirm permission for every recording

Check that the church may retransmit each meeting and retain or publish the resulting archive. A service recording may include music, performances, compositions, images, or other third-party material whose rights differ from the rights to the sermon or meeting itself. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights, including music licensing where applicable, on the provider: review the YouTube livestream terms and secure the permissions required for the intended live and archived use.

Choose files and a continuity plan

Make a playlist of recordings the church is authorized to use, check that each file plays correctly, and decide what should happen when one ends. An encoder’s ability to send a live feed does not by itself establish that it will repeat a playlist indefinitely. Confirm repeat and transition behavior in the chosen product’s current documentation, then test it with the actual recordings. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup; an external drive or other storage is optional if the church already has sufficient storage.

Choose how to keep the feed running

Option What it does What to verify
StreamNeo — first to consider for a cloud-run YouTube loop Runs uploaded videos from the cloud, so the church computer can be off; uploaded quality is retained up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and it is designed to recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free. Confirm that the church’s files and intended playlist fit the available storage and workflow.
Local computer and encoder Sends the recordings to YouTube from a computer running encoder software. YouTube supports encoder workflows and lists OBS among encoders for HLS output. Verify repeat-playback behavior, unattended operation, recovery after a file or connection ends, and that the computer and internet connection can stay available.
Another cloud continuous-stream service YouTube’s encoder guidance names Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 livestreaming of prerecorded videos. Check current availability, supported formats, looping and scheduling behavior, recovery, pricing, rights handling, and partner status directly with the provider.

The evidence available here does not establish a universal cost, reliability, or feature winner between local and other cloud approaches. Whichever route you choose, test a full transition between recordings and confirm what happens if a source ends or the stream disconnects.

For a local setup, the core YouTube workflow is an encoder sending the stream URL and key to the Live Control Room. The exact repeat-playlist controls vary by encoder; use its current instructions rather than assuming that a generic setting name or sequence applies.

Set up and test a local encoder stream

  1. Activate live streaming and create the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Follow the current encoder workflow in YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
  2. Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a public screenshot, or share it beyond people who need to configure the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  3. Load the authorized recordings and verify repeat behavior. Configure the encoder or supported playback workflow to send the files in the desired order. Check the product’s current documentation for playlist looping, transitions, and what happens if a file ends or cannot be read. The official YouTube encoder instructions cover connecting and starting an encoder, not a universal playlist-repeat configuration.
  4. Set output quality for the actual connection. Choose a resolution and bitrate supported by the upload connection and consult YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance. Its published guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Use RTMPS where supported, as YouTube recommends. Do not raise quality beyond what the church’s sustained upload can deliver reliably.
  5. Start the encoder and inspect the preview. YouTube’s workflow is to start the encoder, then use the Live Control Room preview and go-live controls as applicable. Check the live preview, audio and video, and the watch page. Also test playback on a mobile device and confirm people can find the event from the channel or watch page.
  6. Test the failure cases before announcing the channel. Observe a transition between at least two recordings, check audio at the start and end of files, and test the response to an interrupted connection or ended source. Assign someone to monitor the stream and define who will restart the encoder or address power and network failures.
  7. Keep and check a separate local recording. Confirm that the backup file exists and is growing as expected. YouTube recommends checking local archive files as part of stream monitoring; do not treat the livestream archive as the only copy.

Plan around YouTube archives and viewer rewind

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its guidance states: “If your live stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive guidance. If a YouTube archive matters, plan shorter sessions under 12 hours and verify each archive afterward; retain a local copy regardless.

Viewer DVR can allow pausing and rewinding, but YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If viewers need to revisit a particular meeting, consider whether separate, shorter sessions and published recordings better serve that purpose than a single uninterrupted feed. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Monitor the stream and troubleshoot interruptions

YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend checking the preview, verifying access from channel and watch pages and mobile devices, monitoring audio and video, and checking that local archive files are intact and growing.

Symptom Likely area to check Practical response
The channel cannot start a live stream Verification, a restriction in the preceding 90 days, or first-time activation still processing. Check channel eligibility and activation status in YouTube Studio; activate in advance because first-time access can take up to 24 hours.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed Stream URL or key is missing, incorrect, or no longer current; encoder has not started. Compare the encoder’s connection details with the current stream in Live Control Room, then start the encoder and wait for the preview. Keep the key private.
Playback stutters or stream health degrades The outgoing bitrate may exceed the available sustained upload, or the network may be unstable. Use YouTube’s settings guidance to select a bitrate and resolution the connection can sustain. Retest on the church’s actual connection and monitor stream health.
A meeting stops, repeats incorrectly, or has a gap Playlist repeat, transition, or end-of-file behavior is encoder-specific and may not be configured as intended. Check the encoder’s current playlist instructions and test the source ending and transition before relying on unattended playback.
The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete The session may have exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive guidance, or the local recording may not have been saved correctly. For a YouTube archive, schedule sessions under 12 hours and verify each result. Check the local backup file rather than assuming YouTube captured the entire stream.
Viewers cannot rewind far enough DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Set expectations for viewers or use shorter sessions if rewind access is important.
The picture works but the audio is missing or wrong Source-file audio, encoder audio selection, or a transition between files may be at fault. Check audio in the Live Control Room and test each file and transition with a listener before launch.
