Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To stream Terraria multiplayer on YouTube Live, run the world with either Host & Play or a dedicated server, then send a capture of the gameplay through streaming software using a YouTube stream URL and key. Keep two separate backups in mind: the Terraria world save preserves the game world, while a local video recording protects the broadcast replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Decide what you mean by “archive”
A Terraria multiplayer archive can mean the world save or the recording of your livestream. They are different files with different purposes:
- Terraria world save: the game data needed to continue playing the same world. Back it up before server changes or upgrades.
- YouTube replay: the video recording viewers can watch after the live event. Do not treat YouTube’s automatic archive as the only copy, especially for a long broadcast.
For a short co-op session, Host & Play is the simpler multiplayer route. If the world should run separately so one particular player does not have to remain connected, use a dedicated server. In either case, streaming the gameplay to YouTube is a separate encoder setup.
Choose Host & Play or a dedicated server
| Option | Best suited to | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Host & Play | Short online co-op sessions | The straightforward choice when a player is hosting the session. The host’s continued participation is part of this setup. |
| Dedicated server | A world that should run separately from a particular player | The server runs the world independently; the community-maintained Terraria Wiki describes it as not requiring any particular player to remain connected. Home networking may require firewall and NAT configuration. |
The Terraria server instructions cited here are from community-maintained wiki pages, and the setup guide warns that it may be outdated. Check instructions against your installed Terraria version and the current official game/server download rather than relying on version-specific commands from an older guide. The wiki lists TCP port 7777 as the default dedicated-server port; confirm the applicable port and network requirements for your version and setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Start the world you intend to preserve
- Back up the world file. Make a copy before changing server configuration or upgrading Terraria. Store the backup somewhere other than the active world location if practical.
- Select the existing world. Check the server’s world selection so it loads the intended archive instead of generating a new world.
- Check access from outside your home network. If friends cannot join a dedicated server, review the server’s firewall permissions and whether your router’s NAT setup requires port forwarding. Avoid exposing services beyond what the game needs.
- Save and shut down carefully. The community server guide warns that closing without the save/exit command can lose recent changes. The available instructions do not establish one universally current shutdown command, so use the command documented for the server version you installed.
Connect Terraria gameplay to YouTube Live
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key in streaming software. The exact controls vary by encoder, but the essential sequence is:
- Enable live streaming for your channel. Check the channel’s current YouTube Live eligibility and complete any required setup before the session; requirements can change.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open the event in Live Control Room and find its stream URL and stream key.
- Configure your encoder. Add the stream URL and key, then select the Terraria gameplay capture and the audio sources you want viewers to hear. Use the encoder’s game-capture or display-capture method appropriate to your system.
- Keep the key private. Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it on screen, publish it, or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Test before starting the event. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm that game sound and commentary are balanced, and monitor YouTube’s audio/video status. If recording locally, verify that the recording file is growing before relying on it as a backup.
- Start the broadcast when the preview is ready. Confirm that viewers can see the intended world and that the stream is live before continuing the session.
Protect the broadcast replay and world save
Do not rely on YouTube for a long event’s only copy
YouTube Help says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The page does not state a publication year, and this is a YouTube archiving limit—not a Terraria-specific rule. For a long playthrough, make a local recording and plan to end one event and start another before the 12-hour boundary. Afterward, check that the YouTube replay is available and that the local recording opens and plays.

Keep the world backup separate from the video
A playable Terraria world file is not a replay, and a replay cannot restore a playable world. Retain the world save backup as well as the local video if you need both continuity and a record of the session.
Check music and other audio rights before going live
YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted material. A match can interrupt or terminate the broadcast, and an archived stream may receive a Content ID claim after the event. YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the rights needed for both live and archived content, including music.

Troubleshoot common setup failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Friends cannot join the dedicated server | Server availability, firewall, or home-network NAT | Confirm the server is running, verify the version-specific network settings, and check whether the firewall permits the server or port forwarding is needed. The Terraria Wiki lists TCP 7777 as the default server port, but verify it for your installed version. |
| The server starts a different or new world | World selection | Stop and reconfigure the server to select the intended existing world, then confirm the correct world loads before inviting players. |
| Recent world changes are missing | Shutdown or save procedure | Restore from the latest backup if needed. For the next session, use the save/exit procedure documented for your server version instead of force-closing it. |
| YouTube does not show the encoder preview | Stream URL, key, or encoder connection | Check that the event is the intended one, confirm the encoder has the matching URL and key, and reconnect without displaying or sharing the key. |
| Viewers hear no game sound or commentary | Encoder audio-source selection or levels | Test each audio source separately, check levels in the encoder and preview, and verify sound again before going live. |
| The live broadcast is interrupted after copyrighted audio is detected | Third-party audio | Remove or mute the unlicensed source and review all audio sources before restarting. An archived replay may still receive a claim. |
| A long broadcast has no YouTube replay | Stream duration and archive availability | Check the local recording. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured; use separate events below that boundary and verify each replay afterward. |
Or let it run in the cloud
