Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To loop a prerecorded yoga stretch routine on YouTube Live, add the video to an OBS Studio scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, and send OBS to a YouTube encoder broadcast using its stream URL and stream key. That repeats the file while OBS, the computer and the internet connection remain available; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted, indefinite broadcast.
Before you start
- YouTube channel: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. You must be at least 16 to live stream. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility rules and encoder instructions.
- Video and rights: Have a local copy of the routine and permission to use the entire recording, including music, voiceovers and any third-party footage.
- Equipment: A computer capable of running OBS and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity. A webcam, microphone, capture card or dedicated hardware encoder is not required for a prerecorded-file setup.
- Software: OBS Studio. For a playlist rather than one video, OBS’s VLC Video source can loop a playlist, but VLC must also be installed. Check the OBS Media Sources documentation.
Set up the looping video in OBS
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, such as “Yoga routine.”
- In the source properties, select the local video file. Enable Loop so playback starts again when it reaches the end. OBS documents this option as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed.
- Check the preview. Resize or fit the source to the canvas so the video is framed correctly, and make sure the routine’s audio is present and at a suitable level. If the source appears cropped or letterboxed, adjust the source and canvas framing before going live.
- For several routines, add an OBS VLC Video source, select the playlist and enable playlist looping. This option requires VLC; a single Media Source is simpler for one file.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream, then copy its stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the stream details, or use the connection method offered by your OBS and YouTube versions.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as acting like the stream’s password and address; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your broadcast. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Set the output resolution and bitrate to suit the source and the upload connection. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists 2–6 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps, recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. It recommends CBR. These are YouTube Help recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection can sustain the stream. See YouTube encoder settings.
- Leave upload headroom: YouTube recommends keeping about 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the stream’s needs. Other devices uploading on the same connection can reduce stability. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Test, start and monitor the broadcast
- In OBS, start streaming and wait for the feed to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview.
- Check picture, framing, audio and stream health. If appropriate, test first with a private or unlisted broadcast, then create or select the intended public event.
- Start the broadcast in YouTube Studio when the preview is ready. Monitor the Live Control Room and the watch page during the event, especially at the start and when the video loops.
- When finished, end the event in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube’s guidance says: “After your event has stopped on YouTube, stop the encoder.” See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Copyright, live rules and the replay
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream, an interruption or termination. Having a licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm rights and allowlisting with the relevant owner before broadcasting. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
A loop does not make a routine a live class. Be clear in the title and description that viewers are watching a prerecorded routine being replayed. YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; the cited guidance does not establish full automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or longer. If you need a replay, plan to stop within that limit or make a separate recording and verify what is available in YouTube Studio afterward.
Eligible creators may be able to use ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships on live streams. Eligibility applies, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve; these features should not be treated as predictable income. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.

Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS does not show a picture | The Media Source file path is wrong, the file is unavailable, or the source is not visible in the scene. | Reopen the source properties, select the local file again, and confirm the source is visible and positioned within the canvas. |
| The video ends instead of repeating | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source. | Open the source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, verify the VLC Video source playlist-loop setting and that VLC is installed. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | The stream URL or key is incorrect, the wrong broadcast is selected, or live streaming has not been enabled. | Compare OBS’s stream details with the current Live Control Room broadcast. Confirm channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| Stream health is poor or the broadcast disconnects | Upload capacity is insufficient or fluctuating, or another device is using bandwidth. | Reduce bitrate or resolution, stop competing uploads, use a more stable connection if available, and leave YouTube’s recommended upload headroom. Retest before the public event. |
| Audio is missing or unexpectedly loud | The file’s audio may not be reaching OBS as expected, or the source level is unsuitable. | Check the OBS audio meters while the file plays, inspect the source’s audio settings, and listen to a test broadcast before going live. |
| Stream is interrupted after a copyright match | The video or audio contains third-party material detected by YouTube. | Use material you have rights to broadcast and, for licensed content, ask the rights owner whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID. |
| There is no complete replay after a long broadcast | The stream reached or exceeded 12 hours; the cited YouTube guidance only confirms automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. | Plan an intentional stop below 12 hours when a YouTube archive is important, and check the resulting replay in Studio. |
