Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can broadcast prerecorded Islamic lectures as a YouTube Live stream with FFmpeg by preparing a compatible playlist, connecting FFmpeg to a YouTube encoder stream, and keeping the encoder running. For a genuine 24/7 operation, plan for more than one YouTube broadcast: YouTube automatically archives streams that run under 12 hours, so a single live event is not a forever-loop. This guide covers the do-it-yourself setup, its technical limits, and rights checks for a channel in India.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.
- FFmpeg installed on a computer or remote host that can remain on and connected while the broadcast runs. The encoder does the work; turning it off or losing its connection stops your outgoing feed.
- The lecture video files, a playlist manifest, and the stream URL and key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Streaming rights for every recording and incorporated asset, including music, recitations, images, and clips. A speaker’s permission may not clear third-party material used in a recording.
India does not imply a particular upload speed, power reliability, hosting latency, or legal status for a recording. Measure the connection where the encoder will run, consider the power and network failure modes at that location, and get rights clearance for the specific material you plan to broadcast.
Check the lecture files and rights
Confirm permission for the complete recording
Before scheduling a stream, confirm that you are permitted to broadcast each lecture on YouTube, including any material embedded in it. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace a stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a stream. Even licensed material may cause an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Inventory format and stream properties
Check that the files play correctly and note their video and audio streams, codecs, frame rates, time bases, and durations. The FFmpeg concat demuxer is intended for sequential files with matching stream structure, codecs, and time bases. If files differ, standardize or transcode them before relying on a no-re-encode playlist. FFmpeg warns that inaccurate duration information can introduce artifacts or gaps when concatenating files. See the FFmpeg formats documentation.

Create a playlist manifest
Make a plain-text file named lectures.txt in a convenient working directory. List one file at a time in the order you want it to play, using paths FFmpeg can access. For example:
file '/media/lectures/lecture-01.mp4'
file '/media/lectures/lecture-02.mp4'
file '/media/lectures/lecture-03.mp4'
Use paths that exist on the machine running FFmpeg. Keep filenames and paths simple; if a path contains an apostrophe, escape it correctly for the concat file format or rename the file. The concat demuxer reads entries sequentially and adjusts timestamps; it does not make files with incompatible streams compatible.

Configure YouTube Live Control Room
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live. If this is your first live stream, complete activation and wait for it to become available.
- In Live Control Room, create or schedule an encoder stream. Enter the broadcast title and other details, and select the intended audience and visibility settings for the channel.
- Choose the encoder connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it, put it in a public script, or share a screenshot containing it. Reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Use the stream health and preview controls to confirm that the incoming picture and sound are correct before making the broadcast public.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video options, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends CBR, testing against actual upload capacity, and a two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. The recommended stereo-audio settings are 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Choose a video bitrate from the current resolution-and-frame-rate table on YouTube’s encoder settings page; do not assume the same bitrate suits every resolution or connection.
Connect FFmpeg to YouTube
Choose stream copy only when the files are compatible
When the playlist files have matching streams, codecs, and time bases and their existing encoding is appropriate for YouTube, stream copy avoids re-encoding. Replace the shell variables below with the ingest URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Keep them private and avoid saving a key in a script that others can read.

export YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL='paste the RTMPS ingest URL from Live Control Room'

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i lectures.txt
-c copy -f flv "${YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL}/${YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY}"
This is a command pattern, not a tested universal command. Use the exact ingest URL format shown for your stream; if its URL already includes the stream key or required application path, do not append it a second time. -re reads the input at its recorded rate, -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely, and -f concat selects the concat demuxer for the manifest. Stream copy does not alter the media, so it cannot fix incompatible files or apply filters.
Transcode when the files need standardizing
If the source files have different stream properties or need a consistent output, use an encoding workflow rather than -c copy. Select a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that fit the YouTube settings table and the measured upload capacity where the encoder runs. For a frame rate of F frames per second, a two-second keyframe interval corresponds to 2 Ă— F frames. For example, at 30 fps that interval is 60 frames. The following pattern uses variables so you can insert the bitrate and frame rate you selected, rather than treating a single setting as right for every channel:

These are FFmpeg options for a configurable encoding pattern, not a claim that every source will encode successfully or that every listed value is suitable for your chosen output. Confirm that the installed FFmpeg build includes the encoder you select, set the variables to real values before running the command, and inspect the output in YouTube’s preview. If you need to apply filters or transform streams, you must encode; FFmpeg’s FAQ distinguishes concat demuxer and concat filter approaches, and its documentation describes stream copy and transcoding.
Prefer RTMPS where supported
Use the RTMPS ingest URL supplied by YouTube where available. Google’s RTMPS documentation specifies the rtmps protocol, a valid YouTube endpoint and application path, port 443, and SSL transport. Do not guess the endpoint or alter the path; use the values provided for the stream.

Test the broadcast and plan 24/7 turnover
Test the real playlist and connection
- Run the command with a short test or unlisted broadcast before relying on it. Listen for clear, continuous audio and watch for black frames, freezes, missing tracks, or abrupt transitions between lectures.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for the preview and stream health. Choose output quality and bitrate based on measured upload capacity at the encoder’s actual location, not a nominal broadband plan or a test from another network.
- Confirm that the stream reaches YouTube over the expected connection and that the stream key and ingest URL are correct. Resolve warnings before scheduling a public broadcast.
- Monitor the encoder process, network, power, and YouTube stream health during operation. A local computer, remote host, or UPS may help with continuity, but none establishes a YouTube uptime guarantee.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not treat -stream_loop -1 as a way to keep one YouTube live event open forever. A 24/7 channel needs an operational plan for ending one broadcast and starting the next, with a test of the handoff and an allowance for interruptions. Confirm the current behavior in YouTube’s encoder stream instructions.
Troubleshoot common failures
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg exits or reports concat errors | A manifest path is wrong, a file is inaccessible, or listed inputs have incompatible stream parameters. | Check every path on the encoder machine and compare streams, codecs, and time bases. Standardize or transcode incompatible sources; stream copy cannot fix them. |
| Playback has gaps, artifacts, or bad transitions | File durations or timestamps may not line up, or source files may vary in structure. | Verify media durations and test the full playlist. FFmpeg notes that inaccurate duration information can cause artifacts; re-encode or prepare consistent files if needed. |
| YouTube does not receive the feed | The ingest URL, application path, key, or connection settings may be wrong, or the network cannot reach the ingest endpoint. | Copy the URL and key again from Live Control Room, ensure the URL uses the supplied RTMPS endpoint and path, and check network access. Never put a key in a public log or post. |
| Stream health reports a problem | Output settings may not fit the actual upload capacity, or the encoder may be producing unstable video or audio. | Check encoder load and connection stability, then test a lower output resolution or a bitrate from YouTube’s current table. Verify real audio/video and the two-second keyframe setting where encoding. |
| The broadcast is interrupted after a content warning | A live scan has matched third-party material, or a rights holder has not allowlisted the channel in Content ID. | Stop and resolve the rights issue with the relevant rights holder. Permission for the lecture itself may not cover embedded music, images, recitations, or clips. |
| A supposedly continuous broadcast ends or archives | YouTube’s under-12-hour archive behavior and the need for a new broadcast were not included in the run plan. | Schedule and test stream turnover rather than relying on one endless live event. |
