To stream a pre-recorded playlist to YouTube Live at a fixed 1080p frame rate, play the files through an encoder, set its output to 1920×1080 and either 30 or 60 fps, then send that feed to a YouTube Live event using the event’s stream URL and key. The encoder—not YouTube—handles playlist order and looping, so verify playback behavior before going live.
Choose 1080p30 or 1080p60
Set one output frame rate in the encoder and keep it unchanged throughout the stream. When possible, match the target to the source files: 30 fps is a suitable target for 30 fps material, while 60 fps can preserve smoother motion from 60 fps sources. YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingest bitrate differs by target:
| Encoder output | Minimum H.264 bitrate | Recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1920Ă—1080 at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1920Ă—1080 at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended ingest settings, not a guarantee that every viewer will immediately receive 1080p. YouTube transcodes incoming live video into multiple playback formats. The recommendations assume an upload connection that can reliably sustain the selected bitrate; test the actual stream and monitor its health. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance also lists AV1/H.265 alternatives: 1080p30 at 4 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended, and 1080p60 at 4 Mbps minimum and 12 Mbps recommended. These figures are codec-specific.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live event, set its privacy and metadata, and choose an encoder stream key.
- Copy the event’s stream URL and key into the encoder’s streaming output settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your event. YouTube describes this event and key workflow in its live streaming setup guidance.
YouTube detects encoder settings automatically by default. If you need to select the resolution manually, create a custom stream key and enable “Turn on manual settings” under Stream Resolution. The exact labels can change, so check the current Live Control Room interface if they differ.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configure the encoder for a fixed 1080p output
- Set the encoder’s output resolution to 1920×1080. The output size is controlled by the encoder; selecting an event in YouTube does not itself convert the encoder’s feed to 1080p.
- Choose one frame rate, such as 30 or 60 fps, and leave it fixed. Match the source frame rate where practical rather than changing output rates midstream.
- For RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, use H.264, H.265, or AV1. YouTube recommends CBR bitrate encoding, a 2-second keyframe interval (not exceeding 4 seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends RTMPS over RTMP.
- For SDR video, YouTube’s advanced recommendations include Rec. 709 color, progressive scan, square pixels, and 8-bit depth. Select settings supported by your files and encoder.
- Set the bitrate to the relevant codec and frame-rate recommendation, provided your connection can sustain it. A configured bitrate above the capacity of the upload connection can undermine stream stability.
For the recommended ingest configurations and color guidance, see YouTube’s encoder settings.
Build and verify the playlist
- In the encoder, add the pre-recorded files as media playback inputs or use its playlist feature, if available.
- Arrange the intended order, then check transitions, audio routing, and what happens at the end of the list. Confirm whether playback stops or loops; playlist and repeat controls vary by encoder.
- Test a representative section locally before the event. Include movement and audio similar to the material you plan to stream, and confirm that the playlist behaves as intended.
- Start the encoder output and check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the event public or allowing the scheduled event to begin.
YouTube lists OBS as a verified software encoder, but playlist controls and loop behavior depend on the OBS version and configuration. Confirm the controls in the version you use rather than assuming a particular click path. YouTube’s verified-encoder listing also describes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder with a PlayToStream feature for scheduling pre-recorded media directly to YouTube Live. That is an optional hardware approach, not a requirement for software encoding. Current purchase cost and retail availability are not established here. See YouTube’s verified encoder listing.

Test before the broadcast
YouTube advises testing before streaming, including audio and movement similar to the real program. During the test, confirm the preview appears, audio is present, the intended resolution and frame rate are being sent, and stream health is acceptable. YouTube’s transcoding means playback quality options may take time to appear and can differ by viewer; judge the incoming feed and stream health in Live Control Room rather than relying on one viewer’s playback menu.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The event does not receive video: Check that the encoder has the correct event stream URL and key, that the key has not been changed, and that the encoder output is running. Keep the key private.
- The stream is unstable or drops frames: Check the upload connection and whether it can sustain the configured bitrate. Use YouTube’s recommended bitrate as a target, then verify stream health during a test.
- The output is not 1080p or the frame rate is wrong: Check the encoder’s output resolution and fixed frame-rate setting. If you need YouTube to use manual resolution settings, use a custom stream key and enable “Turn on manual settings” under Stream Resolution.
- The playlist stops unexpectedly or plays in the wrong order: Inspect the encoder’s playlist order and its end-of-list and loop behavior. Verify playback before sending it to the live event; the controls are encoder- and version-specific.
- There is no sound or audio is out of sync: Check the media input’s audio routing and the encoder’s selected audio output, then test a representative segment in the Live Control Room preview.
- 1080p is not available to viewers immediately: YouTube transcodes the incoming live feed into playback formats. Confirm the incoming encoder settings and stream health; the ingest resolution alone does not promise that all playback renditions appear at once.
Or let it run in the cloud
