To stream a Marathi devotional video playlist from a VPS, use YouTube’s encoder workflow: enable live streaming for your channel, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, configure an encoder on the VPS to send your rights-cleared playlist over RTMPS, then test the preview and monitor stream health. YouTube specifies encoder requirements but does not prescribe a VPS provider, software package, or universal command; those details depend on your media files and server.
Before you set up the VPS
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours. Start the setup in advance. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements
- Choose a VPS with sustained outbound capacity for the encoder’s video bitrate plus audio and network overhead. The relevant measure is reliable upload to YouTube, not merely the server’s advertised port speed. There is no universal VPS minimum established for this workflow.
- Check that every video and audio recording is licensed for live rebroadcast in the relevant territories. A devotional subject, traditional composition, or public-domain composition does not automatically make a modern recording or video free to stream.
Clear rights for every item in the playlist
YouTube’s terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other participants. YouTube Terms of Service A playlist may contain separate rights in the underlying composition, a particular recording, and the video itself; permission for one does not necessarily cover the others. Keep documentation of licenses or permissions and confirm that they cover livestreaming and the territories where the stream will be available.
Do not assume that a bhajan, abhang, kirtan, devotional album, or film song is cleared just because it is religious or old. The rights status of a specific work and recording must be checked individually.
Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a stream and choose the encoder workflow. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- Keep the key private: YouTube describes it as functioning like a password and address. Do not put it in a public repository, exposed script, public logs, or public support request. If it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room before streaming again. YouTube encoder setup
Configure the VPS encoder and ingestion protocol
For an ordinary playlist broadcast, RTMPS is a sensible starting point. YouTube recommends RTMPS for standard live content; it sends the stream over a secure connection using the correct endpoint and port 443. YouTube RTMPS ingestion guide Configure the encoder with the stream URL and key from the Live Control Room, and make sure the server can make an outbound connection to that endpoint.

YouTube’s encoder settings support H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio. Its settings guide recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval. The guide lists 2 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps; treat this as YouTube’s encoder video target, not as a complete VPS bandwidth requirement. Allow for audio and network overhead, and test the actual files and server route. YouTube encoder settings
Set an output resolution and bitrate the VPS can sustain continuously. A higher-quality source does not help if the server cannot transmit it reliably. The exact encoder command, local playlist behavior, restart configuration, and service manager depend on the media formats and operating system; YouTube’s documentation does not establish one universally valid FFmpeg command or continuous-loop setup.

RTMPS versus HLS
HLS ingestion is available for certain cases, including HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP. It uses an HTTPS URL and an HLS media-playlist workflow, and generally has higher latency than RTMP-based ingestion. A local M3U or media playlist used by an encoder is not the same thing as choosing YouTube’s HLS ingestion protocol. Use HLS only when the source format or other requirements call for it. Test the stream before broadcasting
- Start with a controlled test stream, such as an unlisted stream, and check that the encoder connects.
- In the Live Control Room, confirm that the preview shows the expected video and that audio is present and audible.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health feedback and check playback on the devices your audience is likely to use.
- Only schedule or start the intended broadcast once the test is stable. During the broadcast, watch both the VPS encoder process and YouTube’s stream-health messages; they help distinguish a server or network interruption from an encoding or playback problem. YouTube live-streaming tips
Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a live stream: verify channel eligibility and check for restrictions. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, activation may still be pending for up to 24 hours. Eligibility requirements
- The encoder cannot connect: check that the stream URL and key match the current Live Control Room stream, that the key has not been reset, and that outbound RTMPS traffic to the correct endpoint and port 443 is permitted.
- The preview is missing, unstable, or has no sound: check that the encoder is sending a supported video and audio codec, that the output settings follow YouTube’s recommendations, and that the VPS has adequate sustained upload capacity. Test with a short section of the actual playlist.
- The stream stops when the playlist changes or reaches its end: playlist and restart behavior are determined by the encoder configuration and media files. Check the encoder process and logs, verify the playlist’s paths and file access, and configure and test the desired loop or restart behavior before relying on it for a long broadcast.
- A stream is interrupted or flagged over rights: check permissions for each recording and video, not only the composition or devotional tradition. Resolve any rights issue before resuming the content.
