To stream a language-learning podcast playlist continuously on YouTube Live, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source to play the episode files in order with Loop Playlist enabled, then send OBS’s feed to a scheduled YouTube encoder stream. This keeps the playlist repeating while OBS, the computer, and the internet connection remain available; it is not an unattended cloud broadcast. Before going live, confirm you have permission to rebroadcast and archive every episode.
Before you start: confirm channel access and episode rights
Enable live streaming early
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Get permission to rebroadcast the episodes
Being able to listen to a podcast, download an episode, or access its RSS feed does not establish permission to retransmit it as a live stream or keep an archive on YouTube. Confirm the rights for both uses, including any music in the episodes. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder, and the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed third-party material may be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights holder through Content ID. Prepare an ordered, repeating playlist in OBS

Install OBS Studio and VLC on the computer that will run the broadcast. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed.

Open OBS and add a VLC Video Source to the scene you intend to stream. In the source properties, add the episode files in the order you want listeners to hear them.

Enable Loop Playlist in the VLC Video source properties. When the last file finishes, the source starts the playlist again.

Check the scene’s audio and video. Play through the start and end of the playlist, and verify that the next episode begins as expected and that playback returns to the first episode after the last one.

For a single recording rather than a multi-episode list, OBS’s regular Media Source has its own Loop setting. For a playlist, VLC Video source is the relevant option. The source behaviors and VLC requirement are documented by the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream setup and connection process.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings. Use the URL and key associated with the stream you created; do not share the key, because it authorizes an encoder to send a feed to your channel.

Start streaming from OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and inspect it before starting the public broadcast. Confirm that the correct playlist is playing and that both audio and video are reaching YouTube.

When the preview is ready, start the broadcast from YouTube if you have not enabled a stream control that starts it automatically. Keep Live Control Room open to monitor stream health and playback.

YouTube supports scheduled streams and controls such as auto-start, auto-stop, and DVR settings. These manage a stream; scheduling alone does not make a playlist repeat or ensure a continuous broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream settings guide.

What “continuous” means—and what it does not
Loop Playlist repeats the files inside OBS. It does not keep the computer powered on, prevent OBS from closing, repair a lost home internet connection, or guarantee that YouTube ingest stays available. For a long-running stream, keep the computer connected to reliable power and internet, prevent sleep or shutdown, and monitor the encoder and YouTube preview. Test the complete playlist and a loop before relying on it for an extended broadcast.
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its stated guidance does not establish how a longer continuous event will be archived or divided, so do not assume a single uninterrupted archive for a stream exceeding that duration. See YouTube’s encoder guide.

OBS has no VLC Video source: install VLC on the computer and reopen OBS. The source depends on VLC being installed.

The playlist stops after the final episode: check that Loop Playlist is enabled in the VLC Video source properties. A regular Media Source’s Loop option repeats one file, not a multi-file playlist.

YouTube shows no preview: confirm OBS is sending to the stream URL and key for the correct YouTube stream, and that streaming has started in OBS. Treat the key as a credential; if it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.

The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: check YouTube’s copyright notices and resolve the rights issue with the relevant rights holder. If you have a licence for third-party content, ask the owner about Content ID allowlisting for your channel.

The stream ends when no one is watching locally: the OBS method relies on the local computer, OBS, and its connection remaining active. Check power and sleep settings, network stability, and OBS operation; playlist looping alone does not provide failover.
