How to Stream a Continuous Relaxation Video Loop to YouTube Live

Create a YouTube Live event, loop a relaxation video in your encoder, test the full cycle, and monitor the broadcast and rights status.

To loop a relaxation video on YouTube Live, create a live event in YouTube Studio, send it from an encoder such as OBS, and set the video source to repeat in the encoder or playback app. YouTube’s encoder setup handles the live connection; the repeat setting belongs to your playback workflow, so test the loop and stream before making the broadcast public.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube live streaming tips.
  • A computer running an encoder such as OBS, or another compatible software or hardware encoder. YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary; a dedicated encoder is not a requirement.
  • A relaxation video and soundtrack that you are entitled to stream, plus a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity.

Create the YouTube Live event

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. If this is your first stream, complete any enablement steps and allow up to 24 hours for activation. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  2. Choose whether to start now or schedule the broadcast. Scheduling creates an upcoming watch page that you can share; viewers may opt in to receive a notification when you go live. See Manage live stream settings.
  3. In the Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key. In your encoder, choose YouTube if it offers that connection option; otherwise paste the URL into the server field and the key into the stream key field. Treat the key like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.

Set up the video loop in your encoder

  1. Add the relaxation video as a media or playback source in the encoder. In OBS, for example, add a Media Source and select the file; enable the source’s loop option. Other encoders may call the control “repeat” or “loop.”
  2. Check how the source behaves when it reaches the end. Confirm it restarts at the beginning and does not stop the encoder or leave an unwanted gap. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers connecting and sending a stream, but does not document a YouTube-native loop control for an encoder input; repeating the file is the playback or encoder’s responsibility.
  3. Set the scene and audio mix. Listen for silence, clicks, abrupt volume changes, or an audio track that ends before the video. If the video and soundtrack are separate files, verify that both repeat and remain synchronized over multiple cycles.

Choose stable streaming settings

Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page when configuring your encoder; protocol and supported options can change. For the standard encoder workflow, YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval. Do not exceed a 4-second keyframe interval. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 among supported video codecs.

  • Resolution and bitrate: Choose a resolution your source and upload connection can sustain consistently. A higher setting is not better if the connection cannot hold it without dropped frames or buffering.
  • Frame rate: Match the source where practical. A mostly static relaxation scene often does not need an unnecessarily high frame rate, but avoid changing frame rate without testing the result.
  • Audio: Use an encoder audio format and bitrate accepted by YouTube’s current settings guidance, and test with the actual soundtrack. Avoid clipping and excessive loudness.
  • Protocol: Use RTMPS if supported by your encoder and YouTube’s current setup. Enter the stream URL and key carefully if configuring the connection manually.

Run a speed test before committing to settings. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend outbound upload capacity with 20% headroom above the bitrate you plan to send. Other devices and uploads on the same connection can reduce the capacity available to your stream.

Test privately before the continuous broadcast

  1. Set the event to unlisted or private for the test, if that fits your needs, and start the encoder with the same video, soundtrack, resolution, and bitrate planned for the public stream.
  2. Wait for the Live Control Room preview and inspect it. Confirm that the picture is stable, audio is present and clean, and YouTube reports a healthy connection.
  3. Watch through at least one full video cycle. Verify that the loop restarts as intended, that audio does not cut out or drift, and that the source does not unexpectedly end.
  4. Open the stream on the devices and network conditions that matter to your audience. Confirm that the watch page is accessible and that the sound level is appropriate.
  5. Check local storage if your encoder is recording an archive at the same time. A long recording can consume substantial disk space.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume an archive will be created for a longer broadcast; check the current behavior in Studio if you plan to stream longer. Monetization options such as ads, Super Chat, and memberships depend on channel eligibility and availability; they are not automatic for every stream.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Go live and monitor the broadcast

  1. When the test passes, switch to the public event or create the intended public event in YouTube Studio.
  2. Start the encoder and confirm that the Live Control Room receives the feed. Use Studio’s controls to start the event if YouTube presents a separate start-live step.
  3. Keep the encoder and its computer or hardware running for the full broadcast. Monitor stream health, preview, audio, and the actual viewer feed; a connected encoder alone does not prove that the audience is receiving a usable stream.
  4. When you are finished, stop the event using the encoder and YouTube Studio’s controls as appropriate. Check the watch page and archive status afterward.

Protect the stream from copyright interruptions

You are responsible for having the rights needed to use the video and music on Google services, including any applicable music rights. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions set out those obligations. A video being labeled “relaxation,” purchased, or available online does not by itself establish permission to livestream it.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a placeholder and warning; unresolved content may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel. See Copyright issues with live streams.

  • Confirm the license allows livestreaming on YouTube, not only personal playback, downloads, or edited uploads.
  • Keep license documents and permissions available, and ask the rights owner whether your channel needs allowlisting.
  • If you cannot establish the rights, replace the material with content you have permission to stream before going live.

Encoder options and practical trade-offs

YouTube supports software and hardware encoder approaches, but does not name one as universally better. A software encoder can be a convenient way to use a computer you already own and may offer flexible sources and overlays; it also means that computer must stay on and sustain the chosen settings. A hardware encoder may be useful for a dedicated setup, but adds equipment and still needs reliable power, network access, and a verified loop workflow. Choose based on your inputs, portability, budget, and ability to run unattended—not on an assumption that hardware is required.

Troubleshooting common loop-stream problems

  • You cannot start a live event: Verify the channel, confirm live streaming is enabled, and check for restrictions. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
  • The encoder connects but YouTube has no picture or sound: Recheck the selected scene and source, stream URL and key, audio routing, and codec/settings compatibility. Inspect the Live Control Room preview rather than relying only on the encoder’s “connected” status.
  • The video stops at the end: Turn on repeat/loop for the playback source and test the full cycle. The stream itself does not automatically make a one-time file repeat.
  • The loop has a black gap or audio break: Check the source’s end-of-file behavior and whether audio is part of the same file or a separate source. Test multiple cycles before the public stream.
  • The stream buffers or drops frames: Lower bitrate or resolution, check the wired or wireless connection, reduce competing network use, and preserve the 20% upload headroom YouTube recommends.
  • YouTube warns about third-party content: Stop and resolve the rights issue. Confirm the exact license scope and whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel; do not assume that a license prevents an automated interruption.
  • The encoder computer sleeps or shuts down: Prevent sleep during the broadcast, keep power connected, and check system updates and notifications that could interrupt playback. An app-based encoder depends on its device remaining operational.
