For the most dependable handoff, join the worship recordings into one continuous video before the service and play that finished file through the system that feeds your stream. This removes separate-file transitions from the live playback path, though it is not a guarantee of gapless audio: check the finished file at every clip boundary on the actual service system.
Why one continuous file is the safest starting point
When separate videos play in sequence, the player must finish one file and open the next. Joining the clips beforehand removes that inter-file handoff during the service. A prepared single file can still contain an unwanted pause or other artifact, so inspect the edit and preview the output rather than assuming concatenation makes it seamless.
First arrange the recordings in worship order. Listen to the end of each clip and the beginning of the next; trim unwanted silence if needed, while preserving any intentional musical or spoken pause. The exact edit depends on the recordings and service plan.
Choose a joining method that fits the recordings
Matching files: FFmpeg concat demuxer
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can sequence compatible files without re-encoding. The inputs need the same streams, including codecs and time bases. The demuxer adjusts timestamps to place each file after the previous one, but FFmpeg cautions that gaps can occur when streams do not have exactly the same length. Incorrect stored duration can also cause artifacts; the format supports a duration directive to override a file’s stored duration.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use this approach only when the files’ stream layouts and timing metadata are suitable. Do not assume that files with similar-looking names or the same container automatically meet those requirements. FFmpeg’s concatenation FAQ explains the distinction between demuxer concatenation and the filter workflow used when re-encoding is needed.
Different files: concat filter with re-encoding as needed
If the recordings have different stream layouts or otherwise cannot be joined with the demuxer, use FFmpeg’s concat filter workflow and re-encode as needed to produce a consistent output. This adds an encoding step, so review the resulting picture and sound. The exact command depends on the inputs and desired output settings; without the file details, one universal command would be unreliable.

Playlist: convenient, but not a documented gapless guarantee
OBS supports an ordered playlist through its VLC Video source, which requires VLC to be installed. See the OBS Media Sources documentation. It describes playlist playback, but does not promise silence-free transitions between every pair of items. If you keep separate clips in a playlist, test their transitions in your real playback chain before relying on them in a service.
Church presentation software
Church Presenter documents local media playback, preview, display output, and scheduling. Its guide to playing audio and video advises loading media before the service because VLC may briefly read a file header the first time it opens a file. Scheduling can make an item quicker to prepare, but the documentation does not say that scheduled separate videos transition without silence. Its feature overview describes its media and production capabilities.

Prepare and verify the worship set before service
- Set the order. Put the recordings in the intended service sequence and note any edits needed at their beginnings or endings.
- Check compatibility. For a no-re-encode demuxer workflow, confirm that the files have matching streams, codecs, and time bases, and that their duration metadata is reliable. If they do not match, choose a filter-based workflow that re-encodes as needed.
- Create the joined output or playlist. Prefer one joined file when avoiding live file handoffs is the priority. If you use a playlist instead, confirm VLC is installed for OBS’s VLC Video source.
- Load media before the service. Do not make the first file open part of a live transition. Church Presenter’s guide notes that VLC may briefly read a header the first time a file opens.
- Preview the complete playback path. Play the output through the same computer, software, audio routing, and stream input planned for the service. Listen across every former boundary, not just the beginning and end.
- Keep a recovery option ready. Have the verified joined file or a known-good playback source available if a playlist transition or file fails during the service.
Common problems and what to check
- A pause remains after joining: inspect the source clips for silence at their boundaries, then listen to the joined output at that exact point. Concatenation sequences files; it does not remove silence that is already in them.
- Unexpected gap or artifact: check whether stream lengths differ or stored durations are inaccurate. FFmpeg documents both as potential causes; use the duration override where appropriate or rework the output with a filter-based encoding workflow.
- The demuxer rejects or mishandles a file: verify that the inputs meet its stream-compatibility conditions. If they do not, use a concat-filter workflow that re-encodes as needed rather than treating incompatible files as a simple join.
- OBS playlist has a transition pause: the playlist feature itself is not a guarantee of gapless playback. Test the actual clips and playback chain; if transitions remain unreliable, prepare a single continuous file.
- First playback is delayed: load and preview the media before the service. VLC may briefly read a file header the first time it opens a file, according to Church Presenter’s guide.
- The stream is silent even though the video plays: check audio routing from the playback application into the streaming system and confirm the correct source is being monitored. The documented concatenation and playlist features do not establish how a particular church routes its audio.
Copyright and service readiness
Confirm that the church has the rights and permissions needed to use each recording on the intended streaming platform. Platform rules and the rights attached to a particular song or recording can affect whether a stream is allowed or remains available; the playback workflow does not resolve those questions. Also verify the destination platform’s current live-stream requirements and test the final audio and video before the service.
