How to Stream a Church Service Archive as a Continuous YouTube Livestream from the Cloud

A practical guide to looping church service recordings on YouTube from the cloud, including rights checks, setup, testing, and archive limitations.

To keep a church service archive playing continuously on YouTube without leaving a computer on, use a cloud streaming service that loops uploaded recordings or a playlist and sends the feed to YouTube. First confirm the channel is eligible to livestream and that you have rights for every part of the recording; then connect the service, configure the YouTube broadcast, and test playback. Treat the livestream and its saved archive as separate goals: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.

Before you set up the continuous stream

Confirm YouTube live-stream eligibility

YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before connecting a cloud service. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

Review the archive’s rights

Check the recording for worship music, lyrics, third-party video or audio, and identifiable participant material. Confirm that the permissions you hold cover streaming, archived or rebroadcast use, and the territories where viewers may watch. A license for a song does not necessarily prevent YouTube from interrupting a live feed: a rights holder may require the channel to be allowlisted through Content ID. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and check your actual license terms.

Church of Scotland guidance identifies CCLI and One Licence as options relevant to some church music use, but neither mention establishes that a particular congregation, song, territory, or archive is covered. Check your congregation’s license documents and platform terms. Church of Scotland live-streaming guidance

Choose how to keep the broadcast running

Cloud streaming service

A cloud service acts as the encoder: it plays uploaded recordings or a playlist from its servers and sends the resulting feed to YouTube. Your local computer and home internet connection do not have to remain in the broadcast path, although you still rely on the provider’s service and operating terms. Compare authorization, who can start or stop the stream, restart and recovery behavior, duration limits, and how it handles broadcast rotation and any separate recording.

StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider: it keeps uploaded videos looping on YouTube from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.

Local encoder

You can instead send the archive through an encoder running on church equipment. This avoids a cloud streaming service fee but means the computer, encoder, and internet connection must stay available for the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions

Connect the service to YouTube

  1. Choose the YouTube channel and authorization method. Confirm which account will authorize the provider and who in the church can manage the broadcast. Review and revoke access when it is no longer needed.
  2. Create or select the YouTube livestream. In YouTube Studio, configure the viewer-facing stream’s title, description, privacy, schedule, and other applicable settings. Follow YouTube’s current encoder instructions for the exact interface and stream setup.
  3. Provide the feed credentials if the service requires them. YouTube’s encoder method uses a stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: share it only with authorized administrators, and replace it if it is exposed. Some providers offer a different authorization flow, so follow the provider’s current setup instructions rather than assuming every service uses the same method.
  4. Load the archive. Upload the recording or create a playlist in the cloud service, then set it to loop if the provider supports that behavior. Confirm the order and transitions are suitable for continuous playback.
  5. Start a test broadcast. Check the provider’s status, YouTube’s preview and stream health, the public or unlisted watch page, and both audio and video. Verify that the intended privacy setting is in effect before sharing the link.

Plan separately for continuous viewing and an archived video

YouTube says it can automatically archive livestreams shorter than 12 hours. It warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means a continuous 24/7 feed is not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube replay. If preserving services as individual videos matters, arrange separate recording or shorter broadcast segments, and ask the provider how it handles restarts, rotation, and any recording or archive feature. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup. Read YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Test operations before relying on the feed

  • Confirm the correct archive or playlist is playing and that its audio is audible on the watch page.
  • Verify the intended YouTube title, description, schedule, and privacy from a viewer’s perspective.
  • Agree who can start, stop, or troubleshoot the broadcast, and how access to keys or provider authorization is managed.
  • Ask the provider what happens if YouTube drops the feed, how it resumes, and whether a restart creates a new broadcast or watch page.
  • If an individual replay is required, test the separate recording and segment workflow rather than assuming a continuous feed will be saved in full.

Common problems and what to check

The provider cannot start the stream

Check that the channel is verified and eligible, the selected YouTube account has the necessary access, and the stream URL and key are current if the encoder workflow uses them. Re-enter or rotate an exposed or outdated key using YouTube Studio and the provider’s instructions.

YouTube interrupts or replaces the stream

Review the archive for matched music, lyrics, clips, or other third-party material. Confirm that your permissions cover this specific use and ask the rights holder whether Content ID allowlisting is required; holding a license alone may not prevent an interruption.

The stream runs but no complete replay appears

Check the broadcast duration. YouTube’s automatic archiving guidance applies to streams shorter than 12 hours; longer streams may not be captured. Use separate recordings or shorter segments when the archive itself is essential.

The feed stops or does not resume as expected

Check both YouTube’s stream status and the provider’s health or event history. Ask the provider about reconnection, duration limits, broadcast rotation, and backup arrangements before depending on uninterrupted operation. Provider claims about recovery and reliability are not independent performance guarantees.
