To stream a church prayer meeting playlist around the clock on YouTube, create a YouTube Live broadcast and send it a continuous audio/video feed from an encoder—or upload a playlist to a cloud service that loops it. Before going live, confirm the channel can stream, test the full loop and recovery process, and verify rights for both the music and any recordings. A licence for live worship does not necessarily cover commercial recordings, and YouTube may interrupt a stream when its copyright systems detect third-party content.
Choose how to keep the playlist running
YouTube Live needs a continuous feed from an encoder. You can run one yourself on a computer, or use a cloud service that plays uploaded videos without leaving a computer on at home.
- Do it yourself: Use an encoder such as OBS with a computer and a reliable internet connection. You control the playlist and on-screen visuals, but the computer, connection and encoder must remain operational.
- Run it in the cloud: Upload a recording or build a playlist in StreamNeo, add your YouTube stream key and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. See StreamNeo.
In either case, test the complete playlist and your restart or recovery procedure before promoting a continuous broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how to connect an encoder, but does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 stream.
Check the channel and create the YouTube broadcast
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check current eligibility in YouTube’s live-streaming help.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a broadcast, choose a clear title and describe it as a continuous prayer or worship playlist. Use the channel and broadcast settings that fit your church and intended audience.
- Choose a stream key and keep it private. Copy the key from YouTube’s broadcast setup into the encoder. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Set up the encoder using YouTube’s current instructions. Select an ingest protocol supported by both the encoder and the broadcast, then connect it to the ingest address and stream key YouTube provides. YouTube’s encoder-streaming guide covers the connection process.
- Start a test broadcast and check the whole loop. Confirm that audio is audible, the visual is appropriate, the playlist restarts where expected, and the broadcast remains live through at least one playlist transition. Test what you will do if the encoder or internet connection stops.
Prepare a continuous playlist feed with an encoder
Put the playlist and a static or looping visual into an encoder workflow. OBS is listed by YouTube among encoders that support HLS output; encoder features and protocol support can vary, so use the instructions for the protocol you actually select. YouTube describes encoders as useful when a broadcast needs overlays or other customized production elements.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For a do-it-yourself setup, the encoder and its host computer need to stay on and connected for the broadcast to continue. Keep the playlist source available locally or in the encoder’s chosen media workflow, disable sleep that would stop the feed, and monitor the stream. These are practical operating precautions, not a YouTube uptime guarantee.
Choose RTMP or HLS based on compatibility and latency
| Choice | What matters | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| RTMP | YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP. | Use RTMP when supported by your encoder and appropriate for your broadcast; do not apply HLS-specific segment settings to it. |
| HLS | YouTube specifies TS segments, segment durations of 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, no byte-range support, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. | Use an HLS-capable encoder and follow YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements. HLS settings are specific to HLS, and its segment-based delivery adds latency compared with RTMP. |
| Backup HLS ingest | YouTube’s developer documentation describes a backup ingestion endpoint; it does not promise uninterrupted end-to-end service. | A backup endpoint may support redundancy if your encoder and operating plan use it. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide. |
Confirm music and recording rights before streaming
Do not assume permission to perform a song during a church service also permits streaming a commercial recording of it. Rights can involve the composition, the performance and the sound recording, and the rules depend on territory, repertoire, platform and use—including whether you archive or embed the stream.

- Live worship performance: The Church of England’s copyright guidance says its CCLI Streaming Licence covers live worship music for qualifying churches’ YouTube streams. It also describes One License as covering additional catalogs.
- Commercial pre-recorded music: That Church of England guidance says commercially available CDs or recordings cannot be played without specific permission from the copyright holder. The Methodist Church’s music guidance likewise distinguishes live worship from commercial tracks such as backing tracks, Spotify playlists or CDs, which it says are not covered by its described CCLI streaming permission and generally need explicit rights-holder permission or another applicable licence.
- Other churches and territories: These denominational pages are not universal legal advice. Check the current licence terms for your country, the catalog and arrangement, the source of each recording, and whether your use includes a live stream, archive or embedding. The United Methodist Church guidance, updated April 24, 2026, also illustrates that permissions depend on the specific material and use.
Understand YouTube’s copyright checks
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” Its copyright guidance for live streams says a placeholder image may replace a stream when a match is identified, with a warning to stop streaming the material; if it remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream.
If you have permission to use third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Permission paperwork alone may not prevent an automated interruption when the channel is not allowlisted. Resolve permissions and any allowlisting with the rights holder before relying on the playlist for continuous broadcasting.

Troubleshoot common failures
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live broadcast | The channel may not meet YouTube’s live-stream prerequisites, or it may have a restriction. | Check verification, age eligibility and the channel’s restriction status in YouTube’s live-streaming help. |
| YouTube receives no encoder feed | The encoder may have the wrong stream key, ingest address or protocol. | Compare the encoder settings with the current broadcast details in Live Control Room. Replace an exposed stream key and update the encoder. |
| The video or audio stops when the playlist reaches its end | The playlist or media source may not be configured to repeat, or the encoder may have stopped. | Test a complete loop before launch and confirm the encoder continues sending the feed after the final item. |
| The stream is interrupted or replaced with a placeholder | YouTube may have detected third-party material. | Stop the flagged content, verify the rights for the exact recording and use, and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if you are licensed. |
| HLS ingest fails or behaves unexpectedly | The encoder’s HLS output may not meet YouTube’s segment or playlist requirements. | Check that HLS uses TS segments, 1–4 second segment duration, HTTPS POST/PUT, no byte ranges and no more than five outstanding segments in the rolling playlist. Do not use these settings for RTMP. |
| The broadcast stops after a local outage | The computer, encoder or home internet connection may have gone offline. | Restore the feed, verify YouTube is receiving it, and test the restart procedure in advance. A local setup cannot guarantee continuity through equipment or network failure. |
