Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11In OBS, put the current episode title in a plain-text file, then add a Text Source with Read from file enabled. OBS displays the text over the video, but its playlist playback does not, by itself, guarantee that the text changes when the next episode starts. Update the file yourself or use a separate, verified integration—and test that it stays in sync.
The on-screen title and the YouTube live stream’s title are different things: the overlay appears in the video image, while YouTube’s title is page metadata for the broadcast.
Build the title overlay in OBS
- Create the title file. Make a UTF-8 plain-text file, for example
current-episode.txt, containing only the episode title you want viewers to see. Use the published title or a clean, readable version; filenames are not always suitable display text. - Add a Text Source. In the OBS scene used for the live program, add a Text Source and enable Read from file. Select the text file. OBS’s Text Sources guide documents this file-reading option.
- Style and position it. Set a legible font and size, use sufficient contrast, and add an outline or backing panel if needed. Position the title in the preview where it does not obscure important footage or captions.
- Check the source order. Place the Text Source above the video source in the Sources list so it renders on top. OBS explains source layering and positioning in its Sources Guide.
Keep the title concise enough to fit the frame. Preview the scene at the output resolution and check longer titles, punctuation, and special characters before going live.
Set up the episode playback separately
For an ordered playlist of local video files, OBS’s VLC Video Source can play a playlist and loop it. VLC must be installed for that source to be available. Turn on Loop Playlist if the list should repeat, and leave shuffle off when episode order matters. The OBS Media Sources guide describes these source settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The playback source and the title file are separate jobs. OBS documentation describes VLC playlist playback, but does not establish that VLC Video Source automatically writes the active episode’s title into an OBS Text Source file. Treat title synchronization as an additional step, not a built-in guarantee.
Choose how the title changes at each transition
| Method | What it does well | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Operator updates the text file | Simple and transparent; uses OBS’s documented file-reading Text Source. | A person or reliable operating procedure must change it at every episode transition. An unattended playlist can move on while the overlay remains stale. |
| Automation writes playback metadata to a file | Can keep the overlay synchronized without manually editing each title. | It depends on the player, plugin or script, metadata quality, version compatibility, and recovery behavior. Official OBS documentation does not establish one universally supported native bridge. |
Community discussions mention tools such as TUNA for writing media details to a file, but that is not a compatibility guarantee. The OBS forum discussion is an older community thread; verify that any chosen integration works with your exact source and current OBS setup. If your episodes come from audio files or a web-based player rather than local videos, the metadata path may differ.

Test synchronization before leaving the stream unattended
- Run a transition and confirm the visible title changes at the same time as the episode’s audio and video.
- Test a title with unusual punctuation, accented characters, or a long line to check file encoding and layout.
- Test what happens when metadata is missing, the title file is empty, or the playback source restarts.
- Choose a fallback label for gaps or errors, such as the show name, rather than displaying a blank or misleading episode title.
- If you use automation, confirm it reads the player or source that actually drives the live scene—not a separate test playlist.
Keep YouTube’s broadcast metadata useful on its own
Set the YouTube broadcast title and description for the continuous program and the watch page. A viewer may arrive partway through, so describe the ongoing stream clearly; the overlay can identify the episode currently playing. YouTube’s Live API treats a broadcast title as metadata for the broadcast video, not as graphics composited into the picture (LiveBroadcasts API reference; Life of a Broadcast).
If you also organize the podcast as a YouTube podcast, that is a separate playlist-based feature: YouTube describes a show as a playlist of episode videos and provides guidance on episode order and descriptive naming. It does not document an automatic connection from that playlist to an overlay on a separate 24/7 broadcast. See Create a podcast in YouTube Studio and the Podcasting on YouTube guide.
