To stream a recorded geography course continuously on YouTube, put compatible lesson files in an FFmpeg concat playlist, send the output to a YouTube encoder stream, then test the transitions and monitor stream health. FFmpeg can play files in sequence, but it cannot guarantee 24/7 availability: the host, network, and recovery setup must also stay reliable.
Check that your channel can livestream
Before preparing the playlist, confirm that your YouTube channel is eligible. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel without live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its current eligibility guidance also requires a person to be at least 16 to livestream. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned start. See YouTube’s encoder guide and live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Prepare the geography lessons as a playlist
The FFmpeg concat demuxer reads a text playlist and processes its files in sequence, as though their packets had been joined. Create a plain-text file such as course.ffconcat:
ffconcat version 1.0
file lesson-01.mp4
file lesson-02.mp4
file lesson-03.mp4
The ffconcat version 1.0 marker must be the first line, with no leading spaces or byte-order mark, for automatic recognition. Use paths that resolve from the directory where you run FFmpeg, or supply appropriate paths in the file. The concat demuxer defaults to safe=1, which rejects unsafe paths. Setting safe=0 allows arbitrary filenames and directives; only do that when the playlist is generated or reviewed from trusted inputs. See the FFmpeg Formats Documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Make the files compatible
The demuxer is a packet-level concatenation tool, not a converter. The lesson files need matching stream layouts, codecs, and time bases for reliable sequential reading. Mismatches can prevent concatenation or cause errors, artifacts, or rough transitions. Inspect each file’s audio and video streams and test every boundary. If recordings differ, normalize or re-encode them to compatible streams before relying on the playlist; concatenation will not repair incompatible source files. FFmpeg also warns that incorrect duration information can cause artifacts.
Configure FFmpeg to send the playlist to YouTube
In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select an encoder stream and copy its server URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your stream. Use the ingest protocol and settings YouTube shows for that stream. YouTube generally recommends RTMPS.

There is no universal command for every set of lesson files: input codecs, stream mapping, audio presence, and YouTube’s ingest details vary. This example assumes compatible H.264 video and AAC audio inputs, an available audio stream, an RTMPS ingest URL, and that you want to encode a continuous playlist as H.264/AAC. Replace the placeholders locally—never publish a real stream key:
ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 1 -i course.ffconcat
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
This is an illustrative starting point, not a YouTube-prescribed bitrate or a guarantee that the values suit your material. At 30 fps, the example’s 60-frame GOP is a two-second keyframe interval; adjust it if the frame rate differs. Choose output resolution and bitrate according to the source, YouTube’s current guidance for the selected resolution, and a reliably measured upload connection. If your files lack audio, change the mapping and output configuration rather than assuming an audio stream exists. If source compatibility, mapping, or protocol differs, adapt the command and test the resulting stream.

Use YouTube’s encoder guidance
YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. It recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast. Review the current YouTube encoder settings and confirm that the preview and stream-health indicators are good before relying on the broadcast.
Test the whole course and start the live broadcast
- Run the playlist locally. Check that each lesson opens, plays through, and transitions cleanly into the next one. Pay particular attention to audio continuity, black frames, unexpected gaps, and differing durations.
- Start FFmpeg with the private ingest details. Confirm that the process connects and continues producing output. Do not put the stream key in a public script, screenshot, or log.
- Check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. Verify picture, sound, orientation, resolution, and the lesson order. For a scheduled stream, use the Live Control Room to begin the broadcast as YouTube directs.
- Monitor stream health during the event. YouTube advises monitoring the stream and testing with representative motion and audio. Check both the encoder process and YouTube’s health indicators; a local process running does not by itself prove that viewers are receiving a healthy stream.
Plan for interruptions and archives
A continuous playlist is not the same as an always-available broadcast. A local FFmpeg process depends on its host and internet connection. Host restarts, encoder failures, and network outages need deployment-specific monitoring and recovery planning; the cited YouTube and FFmpeg documentation does not promise uninterrupted operation or define a process supervisor for your machine.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that threshold, so do not count on one complete YouTube archive of the course. Keep the lesson source files and decide whether to split the broadcast into shorter sessions or arrange a separate recording path if you need a complete archive. Test the archive workflow before depending on it.
