What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check live access before announcing a start time. YouTube’s live-streaming encoder guide explains the channel requirements.
- A home PC, an internet connection, and encoder software. YouTube’s guide describes the connection workflow; it does not require a dedicated encoder device.
- Recorded lessons you own or have permission to stream, including rights to music, images, slides and clips embedded in them.
- A playback setup that can select lessons in order and move to the next recording when one ends. YouTube’s encoder instructions do not endorse a particular looping application, so test the chosen software’s behavior before broadcasting.
Set up the 24/7 stream
- Confirm channel access. In YouTube Studio, verify that live streaming is available for the channel and that it has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. Do this before relying on a planned launch date.
- Check lesson permissions. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for each recording and its included materials. An educational subject or an unlisted broadcast does not itself grant copyright permission.
- Create a broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the server or stream URL and stream key shown there into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Choose and test lesson playback. Set the encoder’s media source or playlist to the lesson recording or ordered set of recordings. Test transitions, what happens at the end of a file, and whether the next lesson starts as intended. Do this while the broadcast is private or unlisted, or in a separate test stream, before going public.
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check video, audio and lesson order, then open the watch page on another device to confirm that viewers can access it.
- Assign monitoring and recovery. YouTube recommends monitoring encoder audio and video quality. Arrange for someone to check the feed and local archive files, and decide how to restart the encoder or reconnect after an interruption. If you configure a backup encoder, test its failover rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
Plan for power, internet and interruptions
A home-PC stream depends on the computer, encoder and network continuing to send video. A desktop-PC and router UPS is an optional way to keep local equipment powered through a short outage; size it for the equipment load and the runtime you need. It will not restore a failed broadband connection, and it is not a YouTube requirement.
Have a recovery plan for encoder failure, PC restarts and internet outages. Monitoring and a tested backup can reduce surprises, but they cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. YouTube’s guidance recommends a test in advance and testing backup-encoder failover when configured: YouTube live-streaming tips.
Understand the replay limit before going live
Do not count on one 24-hour broadcast becoming a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive. Its archive live streams guidance puts it this way: “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.”

If viewers need individual lesson replays, retain the original lesson files and consider ending and restarting the broadcast in sessions shorter than 12 hours. Check each resulting archive in YouTube Studio rather than assuming it was saved.
Protect copyright and set realistic monetization expectations
Copyright applies to live lessons
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party copyrighted content. A match may cause YouTube to replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. Even licensed material can trigger an interruption unless the rights owner has added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for live content and to comply with applicable rules and Community Guidelines: YouTube Terms of Service. Whether you have the rights to a particular ICSE recording depends on who created it and what permissions they granted.
A continuous lesson loop is not automatically monetizable
YouTube applies its monetization policies to livestreams. It expects original, authentic content; repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible as “inauthentic content,” and reused-content review applies to the channel as a whole. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 notice renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and said its reused-content policy did not change. Check the current YouTube channel monetization policies and your channel’s status; a looping schedule alone does not establish eligibility.
