You can run recorded medical lectures as a continuous YouTube live feed by sending a playlist or sequence of files through an encoder or cloud playout system. YouTube’s API documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast use case, but that does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime or an archive of the broadcast. The key planning issue is that a YouTube stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep your own recording and decide whether you need one continuous live destination, individual replays, or both.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube lists both as live-streaming eligibility requirements; check the channel’s current status before planning a launch. YouTube live streaming tips.
- Recorded lecture files and a playout method that can sequence them and send a continuing video-and-audio feed to YouTube. This can be an encoder or a cloud playout service; verify that the specific system supports the playlist, restart, and recovery behavior you need.
- A local recording destination with enough space for the retention period you choose. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup. Capacity depends on the files and how long you retain them.
- Permission to stream each lecture and approval for any institutional or privacy considerations. YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. This does not establish that a particular lecture has the necessary copyright permissions, speaker releases, institutional approval, or clearance for confidential or identifiable patient material; review those separately before broadcast.
Choose continuous streaming or shorter broadcasts
Choose the pattern based on whether you value a persistent live destination or reliable individual YouTube replays. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. “May not” is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be archived, or that every longer stream will be lost. YouTube: Archive live streams.
| Pattern | What it suits | Trade-off to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| One continuous broadcast | A persistent live destination for viewers. YouTube’s API documentation illustrates an ongoing 24/7 broadcast. | If it runs beyond 12 hours, YouTube may not capture it as a replay. Continuity, recovery, and local recording need to be tested with your chosen playout system. |
| Repeated shorter broadcasts | Separate live sessions and potential replay opportunities, with each broadcast kept under the stated 12-hour threshold. | Requires reliable scheduling or restarts. The threshold does not guarantee an archive, so keep a local recording and test the exact handoff behavior. |
The YouTube API guide distinguishes a liveStream, which carries the media and transmission settings, from a liveBroadcast, the viewer-facing video. Its example describes using the same stream with a continuing broadcast and a separate broadcast. This is an API model, not proof that ordinary YouTube Studio settings automatically divide a lecture playlist into separate videos. YouTube Live Streaming API.
Set up and test the lecture feed
- Confirm channel eligibility. In YouTube Studio, check that live streaming is enabled, the channel is verified, and there are no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. Resolve eligibility issues before building the schedule.
- Choose your playout and archive plan. Load the lecture files into an encoder or playout system that can run them in sequence. Decide whether to make one continuous broadcast or schedule shorter broadcasts, and configure a separate local recording. Do not assume that an encoder’s playlist feature or restart behavior is identical across products.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream setup, create or schedule the broadcast, and use the stream settings provided for your encoder. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Configure the encoder and inspect the preview. Select the correct input sequence and YouTube stream settings in your encoder. Start the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview for the expected picture and sound before making the broadcast public or relying on it for viewers.
- Run a full test. Confirm that the channel or watch page plays on desktop and mobile, that lecture audio is audible and synchronized, and that the local recording file is growing. Watch the stream rather than assuming a successful encoder connection means the audience can hear or see it. YouTube’s event guidance recommends setting up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder 15 minutes before an event; those are general event timings, not special requirements for a 24/7 feed. YouTube live streaming tips.
- Launch and monitor. Check the live preview and audience-facing playback after launch. Monitor picture, sound, encoder status, and local recording, and verify that the next lecture begins as intended. Test the playout system’s recovery and any planned broadcast handoff before depending on it unattended.
Keep an independent archive
Do not treat a continuous YouTube live stream as the only copy of a lecture archive. YouTube’s guidance says an under-12-hour stream can be automatically archived and that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Retain the source files and record locally to storage sized for your retention needs. If YouTube replays matter, test shorter broadcast intervals and verify the resulting replay before relying on that workflow. YouTube: Archive live streams.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When HLS settings matter
HLS is one specific YouTube ingestion route, not a universal encoder profile. YouTube’s HLS guidance is aimed at encoder vendors. For that path, the documented requirements include muxed M2TS audio and video, H.264 or HEVC video, AAC audio, and a closed GOP. HLS supports frame rates up to 60 fps; YouTube recommends one-to-four-second segments and says segments must not exceed five seconds. Use these values only if you are configuring HLS, and follow the applicable encoder documentation rather than applying them to a different protocol. YouTube HLS ingestion guide.
Troubleshoot common failures
- The stream will not start: Recheck channel eligibility and restrictions, confirm the encoder is using the current stream settings, and verify that the correct input is selected. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The encoder connects but viewers see no picture or hear no sound: Inspect the Live Control Room preview, confirm the correct lecture file or playlist is playing, and check the encoder’s audio and video inputs. Test the public watch page on desktop and mobile.
- The broadcast stops during unattended playback: Check the playout system’s status and determine whether it can recover and reconnect. Test the restart process in advance; YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee a particular encoder’s recovery behavior or continuous uptime.
- A long stream has no YouTube replay: A broadcast beyond 12 hours may not be captured. Keep the local recording and use tested shorter broadcasts if separate YouTube replays are important.
- The local backup is missing or incomplete: Check that the recording destination was selected, that storage was available, and that the file was growing during the test. Preserve the original lecture files as a second source copy.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Its cloud playback means nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded videos, not a camera feed. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Videos stream as uploaded up to 4K 60fps, with one flat price per slot and no quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact StreamNeo support. The service is YouTube-only, and its automatic recovery does not guarantee YouTube uptime or replace a local archive. Start the free first day on StreamNeo.
