To make a YouTube 24/7 playlist stream open with a particular prerecorded video, put that video first in the playlist inside your cloud playout service before you start or schedule the stream. For a one-off opening, use a playlist with the desired video as its only item or first item. YouTube’s broadcast controls manage the live event and incoming feed; the cloud service’s playlist order determines which file plays first.
Set the opening video before starting the stream
- Choose the exact file. Make sure the video is uploaded to the service’s library or available from a supported storage source.
- Create or edit the playlist. Move the video you want to open with into the first position. For a one-time opening, a dedicated playlist containing only that video avoids another clip being ahead of it.
- Select YouTube and configure the broadcast. Set the stream details and choose whether to start immediately or schedule it for later.
- Check the selected first item. Use the service’s preview or status display, then check YouTube Live Control Room before relying on the stream. Preview behavior varies by service.
Playlist order is the documented control for choosing the first prerecorded item. The cited service instructions do not establish a universal “start at this item” selector or guarantee that a running stream can jump immediately to a chosen file.
Example: OneStream Live
OneStream Live’s help instructions describe creating a 24-hour YouTube stream by choosing Create and 24-hour Stream, adding videos from a device, OneStream storage, or supported cloud storage such as Google Drive or Dropbox, choosing a YouTube channel, entering stream details, selecting an immediate or later start, setting the duration, and scheduling the broadcast. Its 24/7 option is documented as YouTube-only, Enterprise-plan-only, and limited to a maximum duration of 30 days; the plan and limit were stated on a help page last updated September 3, 2026. OneStream Live’s 24-hour streaming instructions
OneStream’s playlist help page, last updated September 10, 2026, says multiple videos can be queued in a specific sequence and identifies playlist streaming on Professional and Enterprise plans. Put the intended opening video first; the cited page does not describe a separate control for choosing an item after the stream has begun. OneStream Live’s playlist instructions

Example: Gyre
Gyre describes uploading video files, arranging them in a playlist, connecting a YouTube channel, and starting or scheduling a stream. Its help article says playlist order determines what plays, that playback returns to the beginning after the final file, and that playlists can be changed while a stream is running. It does not specify that editing a live playlist makes the stream jump immediately to an arbitrary selected item, so verify how the current interface applies edits before depending on a particular transition. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independently established uptime or performance figures. Gyre’s playlist and automation guidance
What YouTube controls—and what it does not
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a liveBroadcast, the event or video viewers watch, from a liveStream, the incoming audio-video feed. The API documents broadcast creation, binding, and lifecycle management; it does not choose the first file in an external cloud playlist. That choice belongs to the service producing and sending the video feed. YouTube Live Broadcasts API · YouTube Live Streams API

Google Cloud Live Stream API is a different kind of cloud product: its overview describes taking a live SRT or RTMP input, transcoding it to HLS or DASH, and saving outputs to Cloud Storage. The cited overview does not describe a prerecorded-video playlist scheduler. A cloud transcoding pipeline should not be mistaken for a cloud playout service that queues uploaded files. If the stream is already running
Do not assume that moving a video to the top of a live playlist seeks playback to it immediately. If the service permits playlist edits during a stream, check its current interface or documentation for when changes take effect, then confirm the actual output in preview and YouTube Live Control Room. Gyre documents live playlist changes, but not an instant jump to a selected item; OneStream’s cited playlist instructions do not document an in-progress start-item selector.

When HLS settings matter
You normally do not set YouTube ingestion details yourself when a cloud playlist service manages its own connection. If you are configuring an encoder that sends HLS directly to YouTube, YouTube’s HLS setup guide calls for an HLS stream key and HTTPS ingestion URL in Live Control Room. Its specified format uses 1–4 second segments, TS format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no encryption beyond HTTPS. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than continuous RTMP because it sends segments. These ingestion settings do not determine which playlist item starts first. YouTube HLS ingestion setup
Choosing a cloud service for this task
For the specific goal of controlling which prerecorded video opens a YouTube playlist stream, first confirm that the service supports ordered playlists and that the feature is available on your intended plan. Also check supported file sources, scheduling, maximum duration, preview or monitoring, and what happens when you edit a playlist that is already live. Current cited instructions establish some of these details for OneStream Live and Gyre, but do not establish a complete comparative price, reliability, or arbitrary start-at-item feature matrix.
