If you no longer have access to an Apple TV, hotel television, smart TV, streaming stick, or game console, go to account.apple.com, sign in, open Devices, select the relevant device, choose Remove from Account, and confirm. Apple says this remotely signs the device out of your Apple Account, although the device may reappear if it remains signed in and reconnects to the internet.
Sign out of Apple TV remotely
- Visit account.apple.com and sign in to your Apple Account. Apple ID is now called Apple Account.
- Select Devices.
- Choose the Apple TV, television, streaming device, or other device you want to remove. You may need to authenticate again to view its details.
- Select Remove from Account, then confirm.
This is Apple’s official remote-removal route for a device you cannot physically access. The listing may use a manufacturer, television, or streaming-platform name rather than the nickname you remember.
Apple’s wording describes the action as remotely signing the device out. It is not, however, the same as remotely erasing the hardware, and Apple does not promise that every third-party app session will visibly disappear immediately.

Apple TV can mean several different things:
- Apple TV hardware: an Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD running tvOS.
- The Apple TV app: an app installed on a smart TV, streaming device, game console, cable box, or similar platform.
- Apple Account devices: devices currently signed in to Apple services, managed from account.apple.com.
- Associated purchase devices: a separate list that controls which devices can download and play purchases.
Removing a device from the Apple Account device list is the relevant step for remote sign-out. Removing an associated purchase device does not necessarily sign out an active Apple TV session.

If you still have access to an Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD
Direct sign-out on the Apple TV is the cleanest option:
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Select the account.
- For the default account, choose Remove User from Apple TV.
- For another account, select the account, choose iCloud, and select Sign Out.
These instructions apply to Apple TV hardware and are different from the remote method above. Menu labels can vary with tvOS versions and account type. Apple’s local sign-out guidance is available at Apple Support.
If you used the Apple TV app on a hotel or smart TV
If you can return to the television, open the Apple TV app and use its settings to sign out. The exact menu depends on the television manufacturer, streaming platform, game console, or cable provider.
If you cannot access it—for example, because you checked out of a hotel, returned a rental, or sold the television—use account.apple.com > Devices > select the device > Remove from Account. Apple specifically recommends device-list removal when the Apple TV app remains signed in on an inaccessible smart TV or streaming device. What remote removal does—and does not do
Removing the device:
- Removes its connection to your Apple Account and, according to Apple, signs it out remotely.
- Does not delete your Apple Account.
- Does not cancel Apple TV+ or another subscription.
- Does not remove payment methods or delete purchase history.
- Does not erase or factory-reset the television or Apple TV.
- Does not remove a device from Find My.
- Does not automatically remove a separate purchase association.
Do not treat remote removal as a guaranteed remote wipe. If the device remains signed in and later reconnects, Apple says it may appear in the account list again.

If the device reappears
- Remove it again at account.apple.com.
- Change your Apple Account password if the device was sold, lost, left behind, or is controlled by someone you do not trust.
- Review the complete device list and remove other unfamiliar entries.
- Confirm that two-factor authentication is enabled and review your trusted devices and phone numbers.
- If possible, sign out locally or erase the Apple TV through its settings. For a returned or managed television, ask the owner, hotel, rental company, or administrator to reset it.
A password change is an important security escalation, but do not assume it instantly clears every third-party Apple TV app session on every platform. Apple’s behavior can differ by device and app implementation.
When the device is unfamiliar
An unknown device should be treated as a potential account-security problem, not merely an outdated listing. From account.apple.com:

- Review the device’s details and remove it if you do not recognize it.
- Change your Apple Account password.
- Verify two-factor authentication and trusted devices.
- Review recent account activity and payment information.
- Check the rest of the device list for anything else unfamiliar.
Apple says removing an unknown device prevents it from accessing iCloud and other Apple services until it signs in again with two-factor authentication. More security guidance is available in Apple’s personal safety guide.
Remote sign-out versus an associated purchase device
If your issue is that a device cannot download or play purchases, check the separate purchase-association list. On a Mac or Windows PC:
- Open the Apple Music or Apple TV app.
- Open account settings.
- Select Manage Devices.
- Select Remove beside the device.
Apple says this separate system allows up to 10 associated devices, including no more than five computers. Reassociating a previously linked device with another Apple Account can involve a waiting period of up to 90 days. These limits apply to purchase associations—not to the ordinary Apple Account sign-in device list and not to remote sign-out.

If you cannot find the television or Apple TV in the device list:
- Make sure you signed in to the correct Apple Account.
- Check other Apple Accounts used by household members.
- Remember that the Apple TV app may have been signed in with a different account from Apple TV hardware.
- Look for an unexpected manufacturer or platform name.
- Consider that the device may already have been removed or that the account list has not updated yet.
- Inspect purchase associations separately in Manage Devices.
If access is still a concern, change the password and secure the account even if you cannot identify the listing. Contact Apple Support if the inaccessible device cannot be located or removed.

Remove from Account on the Apple Account website controls account access. Manage Devices controls purchase associations. Remove from Find My concerns Find My and, where applicable, Activation Lock.
Find My removal is primarily relevant to products such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Beats devices. It is not the normal tool for signing out of the Apple TV app on a television. Apple documents the separate Find My process in its iCloud user guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sign out of Apple TV without its remote?
Yes. If you cannot use the Apple TV itself, sign in at account.apple.com, open Devices, select the device, and choose Remove from Account.
Does removing Apple TV from my account cancel Apple TV+?
No. Device removal changes that device’s account access; it does not cancel subscriptions.
What should I do after selling an Apple TV?
Remove it from your Apple Account, then change your password and review the account’s other devices if the buyer may still have access.
Can I erase an Apple TV remotely this way?
No. Remove from Account is not a factory reset. Erasure normally requires access to the device or its owner or administrator.
