Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To show the song that is playing, add a now-playing overlay to the video output before it reaches YouTube. In OBS, you can use a browser-source overlay or an integration that updates native text and image sources. Keep the YouTube live video title descriptive of the continuous stream; it is broadcast metadata, not a per-song on-screen label.
Why the song title needs to be an overlay
A YouTube live broadcast has metadata such as a title, but that title describes the live video as a whole. Google for Developers explains that “a liveBroadcast resource corresponds to exactly one YouTube video resource.” Changing the broadcast title is therefore not the same as placing changing text in the stream picture. To show each track’s title and artist to viewers, composite that information into the video output.
YouTube’s “Music in this video” section is not a dependable replacement for a visible overlay. YouTube Help says it appears on some videos; automatic additions are associated with particular cases, including Content ID claims and Audio Library music.
Choose an overlay that can read your music player
First identify the player supplying the music, such as YouTube Music. Then choose an overlay whose documentation says it supports that player. Compatibility is not universal: confirm the current tool documentation for your player, operating system, and OBS version before relying on it for a continuous stream.

Browser-source overlay
The OBS Forums resource Music on stream describes a web-based current-song overlay and lists YouTube and YouTube Music among supported services. Its listing describes theme and CSS customization and an option to hide the overlay when music is paused; it reports a last update of September 18, 2025. Check the resource’s current instructions and support list before setup.
YTMDesktop2 documents another browser-source workflow for YouTube Music: enable its local API, configure an overlay, copy the generated URL, and add that URL in OBS as a Browser Source. Its documentation describes full, compact, and text-only layouts. Follow the current YTMDesktop2 documentation for API and authentication settings.

Native text and image sources
The public YoutubeMusic-OBS GitHub project describes a Python bridge that reads current YouTube Music information and updates native OBS text and image sources. This avoids depending on a browser source or plugin, but it is specific to that project. Review its setup instructions, platform requirements, and maintenance status, and confirm that it can read metadata from the exact player used by your stream.
Set up and verify the now-playing display
- Identify the playback source. Note the exact service and player supplying the music. Do not assume an overlay that supports YouTube Music can read another player.
- Select a documented integration. Choose a browser overlay or a native text/image integration with support for your player. Check its latest setup instructions and requirements.
- Add it to the production scene. In OBS, add the browser source URL or the integration’s text and image sources. Place the overlay above the video or background in the scene’s source stack, then position it where it will remain legible.
- Check the outgoing preview. Confirm that both title and artist are visible and update when playback changes tracks. Test long titles and adjust the layout so text is not obscured or cut off.
- Set the YouTube video title for the whole stream. Use a descriptive broadcast title and description for the continuous live video, not as a mechanism for displaying every song change.
Troubleshoot missing or stale track information
- The overlay is blank or shows the wrong track: the integration may not be reading the player actually supplying the music. Recheck its supported-service documentation and its player/API connection.
- The overlay does not appear in the stream: confirm it is in the active OBS scene, above the background or video source, and visible in the production preview.
- The title is cut off or hard to read: resize or reposition the overlay and test it with a long track title before leaving the scene running.
- The display stops updating: check that playback is active and revisit the integration’s current API, authentication, and connection instructions. A tool’s listed support does not establish compatibility with every version or setup.
- You expected YouTube’s video title to change with each song: broadcast metadata describes the live video; use a production overlay for changing on-screen track information.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a pre-recorded music stream on YouTube continuously, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera. See StreamNeo, or start the free day.
