To show different pre-recorded videos on a continuous YouTube Live stream, send YouTube a live feed from a playback and encoding setup that can rotate or schedule your videos. You can run that setup on a computer, use a cloud service, or use dedicated hardware. In every case, create the stream in YouTube Live Control Room, enter its stream URL and key in the encoder or service, then check the preview before going public.
Choose where playback and encoding will run
The right route depends on whether you want to manage the playback yourself, avoid leaving a computer on, or use dedicated equipment. Check that the option you choose explicitly supports playlists, scheduled playback, looping, and recovery; a generic encoder does not necessarily rotate a video library by itself.
| Route | What it does | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo — cloud service | Plays uploaded videos or a playlist from the cloud to YouTube, so your computer can be off. YouTube-only. | StreamNeo describes its service as continuous YouTube streaming from uploaded videos. Its slot includes looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and 10 GB storage per slot, pooled across active slots. |
| Local software | Runs playback and encoding on a computer that sends the feed to YouTube. | YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source recording and live-streaming software, but does not establish that a stock OBS installation will rotate a video library indefinitely. Confirm the specific playback workflow, looping, restart behavior, and unattended operation before relying on it. A mini PC is one possible local host, but no particular model or minimum specification is established here. |
| Cloud service listed by YouTube | Gyre is identified by YouTube as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos without a camera or dedicated PC. | Check the provider’s current supported formats, playlist and recovery features, plan limits, and price directly. |
| Dedicated hardware | YouTube says AJA HELO Plus has PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media and streaming it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. | Confirm the current device capabilities and whether the equipment fits your budget and workflow. |
YouTube’s encoder guide identifies the services and devices above; features and plan terms can change, so confirm them with the provider before committing. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Check channel eligibility and clear the videos’ rights
Make sure live streaming is available
Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned start. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips and its encoder guide.

Clear every video and music track
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check permission for each video and each music track in the rotation before streaming.
YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed for the live content, including music rights, and to meet applicable legal and regulatory requirements. See also YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Set up the YouTube stream and connect your playback route
- Schedule or create the live stream. Open YouTube Live Control Room and set up the stream. YouTube’s stream management guide covers scheduling and settings including latency, DVR, and auto-start and auto-stop.
- Copy the stream URL and key. The URL is the destination for the outgoing feed; the key lets YouTube accept it. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly. A custom stream key can be reused, according to YouTube’s stream-management guidance.
- Configure playback. In your chosen software, service, or hardware, select the videos and set the playlist order, schedule, or loop behavior you need. Confirm how playback starts again after the last file and what happens if a file fails.
- Enter the connection details. Add the YouTube stream URL and key to the encoder or service. Follow that product’s current instructions; menu names and connection fields vary.
- Start a test feed and inspect the preview. Use an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream. Check that the intended video appears, the audio is present and at a usable level, and the preview remains stable before making the stream public.
- Start the public stream and monitor it. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours before a scheduled livestream and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. These are preparation recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Use settings that YouTube and your encoder support
YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection to its servers, constant bitrate, H.264 for standard live encoding, and a two-second keyframe frequency. The precise supported settings depend on the protocol and encoder, so check the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page alongside your chosen product’s documentation.
- Resolution and bitrate: Choose settings appropriate to the source video and available upload connection, within YouTube’s current guidance and the encoder’s capabilities. Avoid assuming that a higher bitrate will improve a source that was made at lower quality.
- Keyframes: Set the interval to two seconds where the encoder supports the recommended setting.
- Connection protocol: Prefer RTMPS when supported by both the encoder and destination configuration.
- Test the complete chain: Check video, audio, and continuity in the YouTube preview; a successful connection alone does not confirm that the playlist or sound behaves as intended.
Plan for failures and unattended operation
YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview, testing encoder failover where available, verifying that viewers can access the stream, and monitoring audio and video quality. A 24/7 stream also needs a plan for what happens when playback, the internet connection, or YouTube ingestion stops. Do not assume a generic encoder will restart a playlist or reconnect unattended; verify those behaviors in the selected setup before leaving it running.

Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely check | Action |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a feed | Stream URL, key, encoder connection, or channel eligibility. | Confirm the correct stream details in Live Control Room, re-enter them carefully, and verify live streaming is enabled for the channel. |
| The preview connects but the wrong video plays or playback stops | Playlist order, file availability, loop or schedule settings, and restart behavior. | Test the full sequence, including the end of the playlist and a playback restart, before relying on it unattended. |
| Video or audio quality is poor or unstable | Encoder settings, source quality, and the connection carrying the feed. | Compare the configuration with YouTube’s current settings recommendations and check playback in Live Control Room. |
| The stream is replaced, interrupted, or terminated | A detected match to third-party material or a rights issue. | Review YouTube’s copyright notice, confirm rights for all material, and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable. |
| The stream stops while unattended | Computer, software, service, hardware, or connection recovery behavior. | Use the provider’s documented recovery controls, test failover when available, and establish how you will be notified and restore playback. |
