Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can edit some YouTube live-stream settings while a broadcast is running, but whether you can change a particular field depends on how the stream was started and what YouTube makes editable in its controls. In Live Control Room, webcam streams have an Edit option for settings while live. For encoder and mobile streams, YouTube documents metadata controls in stream settings, but does not promise that every field can be changed after the broadcast starts. Editing stream details is also different from replacing the live audio or video feed.
Choose the right kind of update
First decide whether you want to change information about the broadcast or replace what viewers are seeing and hearing:
- Stream settings or metadata: details and controls associated with the live stream, such as chat settings or tags. YouTube documents an in-stream Edit path for webcam settings and metadata controls for encoder and mobile streams. The exact fields available during an active broadcast can vary by method. YouTube Help: Create a live stream via webcam and Manage live stream settings.
- The incoming live feed: the audio and video being sent from your webcam, phone, or encoder. The YouTube guidance cited here does not establish that you can swap this feed without interrupting the broadcast.
If you mean the stream listing’s title, description, or thumbnail, check the active stream’s Edit or details controls for that exact field. The documentation does not confirm that each of these fields is editable during an active broadcast for every streaming method.
Edit settings while the stream is live
Webcam stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the current webcam broadcast and select Edit.
- Find the setting you want to change. YouTube gives tags, monetization, and chat settings as examples of settings managed there while live.
- Save the change, then check the stream’s management interface to confirm it. YouTube says webcam settings can be changed whether the stream is live or not; it does not promise that every change will appear immediately to every viewer.
See YouTube’s webcam-stream instructions.
Encoder or mobile stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then open the current stream in the relevant Stream or Manage view.
- Open the stream settings and look for Edit or the details controls.
- Make the change if the field is available, save it, and confirm the result in the management interface.
YouTube documents editing metadata from stream settings or while scheduling, but its instructions do not explicitly confirm that every metadata field remains editable after an encoder or mobile broadcast has started. For a specific title, description, or thumbnail change, rely on the field’s availability in the active stream controls rather than assuming the general metadata instructions guarantee it. See Manage live stream settings.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the field you need is unavailable
Keep the current broadcast running
If YouTube does not offer the requested edit in the active stream’s controls, leave the broadcast running and, if appropriate, clarify the correction in live chat or another channel. Do not assume that changing details for an uploaded video will also change a live broadcast; YouTube’s general uploaded-video editing guidance is not confirmation that every live-stream field can be edited while broadcasting.
Make a separate highlight if you need an edited segment
YouTube allows a highlight to be created while a stream is live or after it ends. A highlight is a separate edited video; it does not replace or revise the live feed. See Create a highlight.

Plan for the archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. Once the broadcast is over, you can manage its archive in Studio, but archive edits should not be treated as changes to what viewers saw live. See Archive live streams.
Troubleshoot the edit
- You cannot find Edit: confirm you opened the active broadcast in Live Control Room and the correct Stream or Manage view. The documented webcam path uses Edit; encoder and mobile controls may be presented through stream settings.
- The field is missing or locked: availability may depend on the streaming method and the particular field. The cited encoder/mobile guidance does not guarantee every field is editable during an active stream. Use chat or another channel for an immediate correction if needed.
- You changed details but viewers still see the old information: confirm the saved value in the management interface. YouTube’s cited guidance does not promise instant propagation to all viewers.
- You need to replace the picture or sound, not the listing details: that is a feed change, not a metadata edit. The guidance cited here does not establish a way to replace the incoming feed without interruption; check the specific encoder and stream setup before relying on a seamless switch.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded video running as a YouTube live stream rather than edit an active broadcast, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps it running without a computer at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and does not replace a live camera feed. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
