In a local encoder such as OBS, put a text layer or browser-based overlay in the scene and make its content change on your chosen timetable. YouTube Studio schedules and manages the live event; it does not supply a documented rotating study-schedule widget.
What you need to build
Your stream has two separate jobs: a computer or hosted service produces the continuous audio and video, and YouTube receives that program as a live event. The schedule must be part of the outgoing picture—typically a text source or browser source in the encoder scene. YouTube’s Live Control Room handles the event, not the design or rotation of that on-screen graphic. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- A continuous video source: for example, a study ambience video or a playlist of prerecorded material.
- A schedule graphic: fixed text or a browser overlay whose displayed study block changes at the intended times.
- A way to send the program to YouTube: a software or hardware encoder, or a hosted 24/7 streaming service.
Choose where the stream runs
Run an encoder on your computer
A local software encoder gives you direct control over scenes and overlays, but the computer and encoder need to keep running for the stream to continue. YouTube describes both computer-based software encoders and standalone hardware encoders in its encoder guide. You maintain the media, schedule layer, and ongoing operation.
Use a hosted 24/7 service
A hosted service can run a prerecorded-video playlist on its infrastructure instead of relying on your home computer. OneStream Live documents a 24/7 playlist workflow in its 24/7 streaming help article. That page establishes playlist streaming, not whether its workflow supports your particular rotating schedule graphic. Check the service’s current feature limits, pricing, availability, and terms before relying on it.

Set up the YouTube live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream there. Scheduling gives viewers a stream page and the option to receive reminders, according to YouTube’s setup guide.
- Allow time for first-time activation. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until just before your planned launch.
- Connect your encoder. If it offers a direct YouTube connection, use that flow. Otherwise, copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not show it in the stream, share it publicly, or leave it visible in a screen recording.
- Start the encoder against the intended event. Confirm that the preview or live feed is attached to the scheduled stream page you plan to share.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation distinguishes a broadcast from the stream carrying its audio and video. For the creator’s practical workflow, the important point is to create/manage the event in YouTube and send it the encoder feed.

Put the rotating timetable on screen
Choose the display method
- Native text source: Add a text layer in the encoder scene for a simple timetable. For rotation, arrange for the text to update at each change—manually if you will be present, or through a supported automation or source workflow if it must change unattended.
- Browser source: Add a browser-based overlay to the scene if the schedule is rendered by a web page. Make sure the page stays available and that its displayed item changes on the timetable you want.
Do not mistake YouTube’s break overlay for a schedule tool. The surfaced break-overlay directions describe a break slate, not a built-in rotating study timetable. They also do not validate any particular third-party overlay service. Confirm that your chosen encoder and overlay actually support the behavior you need.
Make the schedule useful to viewers
- Show the current block clearly, such as “50-minute focus session,” rather than making viewers infer which item is active.
- Include the next block or a local-time label if that helps people follow transitions. State the time zone when showing clock times so international viewers can interpret them.
- Keep the text legible against the background at the final stream resolution. Avoid placing it over busy imagery or important visual content.
- Use a consistent format and check that every rotation transition displays the correct block for the intended duration.
Test the complete stream before sharing it
- Preview the composed scene at the resolution you intend to send, not just in the overlay editor.
- Watch a full schedule transition and verify both the departing and incoming text, including any browser-source refresh or timing behavior.
- Check the YouTube preview to ensure the encoder is sending the composed scene to the correct scheduled event.
- Confirm that any video and audio you use are suitable for continuous public streaming. You are responsible for having the rights to the material and for following YouTube’s current live-stream and channel policies; the encoder connection does not grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted footage or music.
Troubleshoot common failures
The schedule is not visible on YouTube
- Check that the text or browser source is enabled and positioned inside the active scene, not only in a different scene or editor preview.
- Confirm that the encoder is sending that scene to the intended YouTube event.
- If you use a browser source, check that its page loads in the encoder and remains available.
The schedule appears but does not rotate
- A static text layer will remain static unless something changes its content. Verify that your chosen manual or automated update method is actually connected to the displayed source.
- For a browser overlay, check the page’s rotation behavior and refresh or connection requirements. The cited YouTube materials do not prescribe a schedule-rotation tool.
The stream does not start
- Recheck the stream URL and key, or repeat the encoder’s direct YouTube connection flow. A mistyped or outdated key can prevent the encoder from connecting.
- If this is your first live stream, account for YouTube’s stated activation window of up to 24 hours.
- Verify that the encoder is sending to the event you created in Live Control Room.
A continuous stream stops when you leave
If the program is running through a local encoder, the computer or hardware encoder must keep operating. For a cloud workflow, confirm the service’s current continuity, recovery, and feature terms rather than assuming a playlist service supports every overlay or schedule behavior.

A schedule overlay describes the program; it does not make the underlying footage or music yours to broadcast. Use material you own or have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and channel policies before running a continuous study channel. If you rotate blocks by time, make the displayed timetable match the actual sequence so viewers are not promised a session that is not playing.
