To set membership levels for an eligible YouTube channel in India, sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer and go to Earn > Memberships > Get started. Follow the setup prompts and accept YouTube’s Commerce Product Module (CPM) when asked. Before choosing prices, confirm that your channel is eligible and decide on a small number of sustainable levels with clearly different perks.
Check that your channel can offer memberships
The Memberships tab appears in YouTube Studio only for channels that are eligible. YouTube’s current monetization guidance lists these thresholds for the relevant YPP entry route:
- At least 500 subscribers.
- At least three public uploads in the past 90 days.
- Either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the past 365 days, or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days.
You must also be at least 18, live in a location where memberships are available, accept the CPM, and meet YouTube’s channel and content eligibility rules. These thresholds do not guarantee access to every monetization feature: YouTube applies feature-specific eligibility, and reviewers can withhold a feature. If your channel has been accepted into YPP but Memberships is not yet available, activation may take up to two days because the feature can be reviewed separately.
Set up memberships in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Sign in to the channel you want to configure.
- Go to Earn > Memberships. If the tab is missing, check eligibility and whether membership activation is still pending.
- Select Get started. Follow the on-screen setup steps.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module. First-time setup requires accepting the CPM before you can offer memberships.
- Choose your levels, prices and perks. Make each level’s benefits and delivery expectations clear before submitting the setup for review.
YouTube says membership activation after YPP acceptance may take up to two days. Use the status shown in Studio to check whether setup is still under review or ready for members.

How many levels should you create?
YouTube allows up to six membership levels, but many creators are better served by starting with one to three. YouTube’s pricing guidance explicitly says, “Consider starting with 1 to 3 pricing levels before increasing to more.” A smaller menu is easier for viewers to compare and easier for you to deliver consistently.
Build levels around what your audience values and what you can reliably provide. Ask viewers through a members-only post or poll what they would use, then weigh each perk’s appeal against its time, expense and ongoing effort. There is no universally best number of levels or price that the available guidance establishes as a conversion-maximizing formula.

Choose perks you can keep delivering
YouTube-supported membership perks include badges and emoji, members-only posts, videos, Shorts and live streams. Benefits stack as members move up levels, so a higher-priced tier should add a specific, understandable benefit while leaving the lower tier worthwhile.
For a documentary channel, for example, a creator might offer a members-only community post at an entry level and add an original behind-the-scenes video at a higher level. Treat this as a design example, not a recommended price or guaranteed formula. Avoid promising access or a schedule you cannot sustain; a perk that is valuable but unreliable can disappoint members and create recurring work.

Members-only videos can be assigned to the levels you choose. They must be fully original and must not include content claimed by copyright. Check the rights for footage, music, archival clips and other material before making a video a member perk; a video that is not eligible under these rules should not be used as a members-only benefit.

These are available price points, not a recommendation to use every price or a claim that any one price will perform best. Choose a price that makes sense for the incremental perk and the work required to deliver it, then check the options presented in your current YouTube Studio setup flow.
The revised schedule is a gradual rollout, not an assurance that every channel or existing member already uses it. YouTube separately lists previous price points, and the price a member pays can depend on when they joined. For a new setup, rely on the country-specific prices shown in Studio rather than assuming an existing membership has already moved to the revised schedule.

Revenue, price changes and existing members
YouTube says creators receive 70% of membership revenue recognized by Google after applicable taxes and fees are deducted. YouTube currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. The figure is therefore not 70% of the displayed member price in every case: taxes and fees are deducted first. If you belong to a multi-channel network (MCN), check its terms because the network may take an additional share.
You can edit perks at any time. Under YouTube’s described pricing policy, you can adjust prices for new members once every 12 months from the last update; existing members remain at their original price. Plan the level value and delivery schedule before launch, because price changes for new members are limited by that interval.
