To switch scenes manually in OBS, assign a separate hotkey to each scene. For a repeating timed rotation, use the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin and verify its current instructions for your OBS version; OBS’s built-in Automatic Scene Switcher is for matching active application window titles, not a general-purpose timer. Build and test the scenes, YouTube connection, audio, and recovery settings before leaving a local stream unattended.
Choose the right scene-switching method
OBS scenes are layouts made from sources: for example, an image or other visual paired with audio. Make a scene for each distinct state viewers should see, rather than creating many nearly identical versions. OBS’s Sources Guide describes scenes and source types, including image and audio sources.
| Method | What triggers the change | Best fit | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scene hotkeys | An operator presses a shortcut assigned to a scene. | A person is available to make changes. | OBS documents hotkeys for switching to a specific scene. |
| Built-in Automatic Scene Switcher | A rule matches the active application window title. | Switching according to which desktop application is active. | OBS community guidance distinguishes this from a repeating timer or sequence. |
| Advanced Scene Switcher plugin | A configured timer or sequence. | Automated, repeating scene rotation. | Community guidance points to the plugin for timer-based sequences. Check its current instructions and compatibility, then test it before going live. |
The distinction between the built-in switcher and a timed sequence is explained in this OBS community discussion. Plugin interfaces and compatibility may change, so do not assume a particular menu path or setting without checking the instructions for the installed version.
Plan a simple scene set for an Indian music stream
Start with the visual states the broadcast actually needs. A compact setup might include:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Main music visual: the still image, artwork, or other visual accompanying the track or playlist.
- Break or standby: a deliberate screen for planned pauses or temporary interruptions.
- Return or recovery: a known scene to restore after maintenance or an interruption.
These are practical examples, not a prescribed OBS template. In each scene, add the relevant sources, arrange their order, and confirm which are visible. Check that the intended audio source is present and audible in the broadcast output; do not rely on the preview image alone.
Set up manual switching with hotkeys
- In OBS, open Settings → Hotkeys.
- Find each named scene’s Switch to action and assign a distinct shortcut. Avoid shortcuts that conflict with other applications or actions you use while operating the stream.
- Apply the settings, then press each shortcut while watching the OBS preview. Confirm that the correct scene appears every time.
- If you use a programmable macro keypad, configure it to send the same keyboard shortcuts only if the device supports that function. It is optional; OBS’s documented scene hotkeys do not require a keypad.
OBS lists switching to a specific scene as a hotkey action in its Studio Overview Guide. Hotkeys need an operator to press them; they do not create a timed rotation by themselves.

Configure a timed rotation when nobody will operate OBS
For a repeated sequence such as changing the visual every few minutes, OBS community support points users to the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin. The built-in Automatic Scene Switcher is described as matching active application window titles to scenes, which is a different trigger.
- Confirm the plugin’s current documentation and compatibility with your installed OBS version before installing or configuring it.
- Set up the intended scene sequence and intervals in the plugin according to its current instructions; do not assume the built-in switcher offers a general timer.
- Test the full sequence while not live. Check that every scene appears in the intended order, the interval is suitable, and the music audio does not stop or unintentionally change.
- After any OBS or plugin update, verify the automation again before relying on it unattended.
The available community guidance recommends the plugin for timer-based automation, but does not establish a current plugin interface or universal compatibility. A test of the full sequence is essential.

Choose and preview scene transitions
OBS includes Fade and Cut transitions from first launch, as its Studio Overview Guide states. Choose the transition and duration that suit the visuals, then check the result before broadcasting.
In Studio Mode, the editable preview is separate from the live scene. Inspect the preview first, then transition it to live; this gives an operator a chance to catch a wrong image or layout before viewers see it.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or select the stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings.
- Enter the destination details in OBS’s stream settings and verify that the selected YouTube stream is the intended one before sending video.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a credential: do not show it in a scene, screenshot, recording, or public message. YouTube explains that the key tells the encoder where to send its feed in its encoder setup instructions and live stream settings help.
YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming ahead of the planned start rather than waiting until launch day.

The OBS and YouTube setup material cited here does not establish a single bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval that is right for every channel and connection. Use the current YouTube stream settings and encoder guidance for the selected output, then match OBS to the computer and network you will actually use. OBS says performance depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; its Auto-Configuration Wizard is a starting point, not proof that a machine can run unattended indefinitely.

Keep scenes reasonably simple, especially on a computer that will remain on continuously. A detailed animated layout, high output settings, and other concurrent workloads can change what the same computer can sustain. Test at the intended output settings instead of assuming that a successful short preview proves long-running stability.
Test the whole path before leaving it unattended
- Start with an unlisted test if that suits your channel and broadcast plan.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the watch page shows the intended image.
- Listen to the stream output, not only the local monitoring device. Confirm music is audible and that no unintended desktop or microphone audio is present.
- Trigger at least one manual scene change or let the automation complete a full sequence. Check both the image and audio after the change.
- Observe the stream for a meaningful test period and check for dropped frames, stalls, or a scene that fails to advance. YouTube recommends testing, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video quality in its live streaming tips.
- Enable OBS automatic reconnect if appropriate for your setup, then understand its limit: reconnect is an advanced recovery setting, not a guarantee that every failure will recover or that a stream will remain online 24/7.
A local OBS stream depends on the computer, OBS, and network remaining capable and powered. OBS’s system requirements guidance emphasizes that performance varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. A 24/7 schedule does not remove those dependencies.
Use music you have the right to broadcast
Indian music is not automatically cleared for a YouTube livestream because of its language, genre, devotional context, or source. Use tracks for which you have the necessary rights to broadcast, and confirm that any artwork or other media in the scenes is also cleared for your use. This setup guide cannot determine the rights status of a particular track or provide an India-specific legal conclusion.
Ways to keep prerecorded video streaming on YouTube
- StreamNeo: keeps uploaded videos or playlists running from the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on; any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps uses one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. StreamNeo is a YouTube service, not a camera-broadcast tool. See StreamNeo.
- OBS on your own computer: gives you direct control of scenes and transitions, but the computer, OBS, and network must keep working. Use the steps above and test the full setup before leaving it unattended.
YouTube’s encoder setup page names Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming tool. That mention alone does not establish its current feature fit, regional availability, or suitability for a particular channel.
