The YouTube destination and stream key must come from Live Control Room. The command pattern below is an adaptation—not a YouTube-validated recipe—so test it with an unlisted event before relying on it.
Before you begin: enable YouTube Live
There is no separate India-specific setup established here: check your channel’s current eligibility and live-stream status in YouTube Studio. YouTube requires channel verification and that the channel not have live-streaming restrictions; its current guidance says first-time live enablement may take up to 24 hours. It also lists 90 days without live-streaming restrictions among the prerequisites. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Sign in to the YouTube channel that will host the stream and complete the verification or eligibility steps shown in Studio.
- Enable live streaming and wait for activation if this is the channel’s first time. Do not schedule your launch around an assumption that approval is immediate.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a live stream and choose its visibility. Use Unlisted for the initial test so you can check the signal without making the event public.
Get the YouTube ingest URL and protect the stream key
In Live Control Room, copy the current stream URL and stream key for the event. YouTube’s encoder setup explains that the key identifies your stream to the encoder; treat it like a password. The current settings flow is documented in Manage live stream settings and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Do not publish the key in a Git repository, tutorial screenshot, shared terminal recording, or an unprotected service file.
- Avoid pasting the real key into shell commands that may be retained in shell history or process listings. Use a protected configuration or secret-handling method appropriate to your host, and limit file permissions.
- If the key is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder with the replacement.
Launch a secured EC2 Linux host
Create a Linux EC2 instance in a Region chosen for your operational needs, then test actual ingest stability and audience experience. The available guidance does not establish one AWS Region as best for every Indian channel. Keep the security group narrow: allow SSH only from your administrator’s known IP/network or another controlled management path. AWS describes security groups as virtual firewalls controlling inbound and outbound traffic in its security group documentation; connect using the relevant Linux SSH instructions.

Choose an instance that can sustain the encoding workload and network rate for your selected settings. A file that is already encoded suitably for YouTube may reduce the need to transcode, but test the actual file and instance rather than assuming any instance can handle any resolution or codec.
Install FFmpeg and place the video on the instance
Install FFmpeg using the package manager and repository for the specific Linux AMI you selected. There is no single reliable installation command across all distributions and package sources, so verify the AMI’s current instructions and confirm the installed build with ffmpeg -version.
- Transfer the media file using a controlled method and confirm that the file is complete and readable.
- Check available disk space before copying large source files.
- Inspect the source’s video and audio codecs, frame rate, dimensions, and audio presence. The chosen output settings must be compatible with YouTube and the available CPU/network capacity.
Adapt the FFmpeg loop for YouTube and test it
For a file input, FFmpeg’s -re option paces reading in real time, while -stream_loop -1 loops the input indefinitely. AWS shows this pattern in an FFmpeg example for Amazon IVS; it is evidence for the FFmpeg options, not proof of a working YouTube command. See the Amazon IVS guide.

The command shape is:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /path/to/video.mp4 -f flv "[YouTube RTMPS ingest URL and stream key in YouTube's required format]"This is a schematic, not a copy-and-run command: replace the input path and encoding options, and assemble the RTMPS destination exactly as required by the URL and key shown in Live Control Room. Keep the real key out of published examples and logs. The options and RTMPS destination must be tested with your FFmpeg build, media file, EC2 host, and event.

- Start with an Unlisted event and the actual source file.
- Use real-time pacing and infinite looping, then select output codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe frequency to match YouTube’s guidance and your host’s capacity.
- Start FFmpeg and check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room before changing the event to Public.
- Listen and watch the preview for sync, silence, clipping, black frames, and loop transitions. Confirm that the event is receiving a stable signal before depending on it.
Choose encoder settings that YouTube recommends
YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 options. It recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. For H.264, the listed recommendations include 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 14 Mbps at 1080p60. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular instance or network route will sustain the stream.

When transcoding, specify the corresponding FFmpeg video and audio options explicitly and verify the emitted stream in Live Control Room. Avoid blindly copying a preset for a different codec or resolution.

Keep the stream running and recover from failures
A looping input does not restart FFmpeg if the process exits, nor does it bring the stream back after an instance reboot. Monitor the process and host, and configure a process supervisor or Linux service manager if automatic restart is needed. The exact service configuration depends on the chosen distribution and should be tested by deliberately stopping FFmpeg and, separately, rebooting the instance.
- Check logs for encoder errors, failed connections, disk exhaustion, and input read errors.
- Test whether the process restarts after a crash and after a host reboot; those are separate failure cases.
- After any credential rotation, update the protected configuration and verify that the event receives video again.
- Decide who will respond to alerts and how the stream will be checked during long unattended periods.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit and stream duration
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will receive the same automatic archive behavior. If an archive matters, plan session length and any recording workflow around YouTube’s documented limit rather than treating a 24/7 loop as a guaranteed VOD.
Also ensure the right to use every video, music track, and other material in the loop. A continuous stream does not remove copyright obligations, and permission to upload a file does not necessarily establish permission for every use or territory. Review YouTube’s applicable policies and rights for the content before going live.

Estimate EC2 cost for an Indian channel
There is no defensible single monthly EC2 estimate without the Region, instance type, operating system, runtime, bitrate, and transfer volume. AWS charges for instance runtime while it is in the running state, with a 60-second minimum, and internet data transfer out may add cost. Check the current EC2 On-Demand pricing and AWS pricing calculator for the exact configuration and account.
AWS’s pricing page states 100 GB per month of internet data transfer out free, aggregated across AWS services and Regions, subject to its stated China and GovCloud exceptions. Confirm current eligibility for the account and Region before using that allowance in a budget.
For perspective when estimating egress, multiply the stream bitrate by the hours streamed, convert bits to bytes, and account for the fact that bitrate and protocol overhead can vary. Compare the resulting volume with the account’s applicable allowance and rates; include instance runtime and storage or other services used. A higher bitrate improves the chance of preserving detail but raises outbound transfer consumption.

Choose EC2, shorter sessions, or a cloud service

For EC2 Region selection, compare candidate Regions with an Unlisted test using the same file and encoder settings. Judge the incoming stream health and audience feedback for your actual setup; neither an India-specific best Region nor universal latency result is established here.
Common problems and fixes
