If you specifically need a standard Cloud Compute virtual machine, do not treat the cheapest listed option as a proven streaming recommendation. Choose and test a configuration against your resolution, frame rate, encoding load and storage needs before relying on it for a continuous channel.
Which Vultr option is best supported for a 24/7 YouTube loop?
For the workflow Vultr documents, use the One Click Vultr Broadcaster A16 GPU Marketplace instance. Vultr’s guide describes Broadcaster as a browser-accessible OBS streaming application and walks through uploading media, configuring a destination and stream key, and looping the video. This is a GPU Marketplace instance, not a regular Cloud Compute tier. Vultr’s Cloud Compute overview describes shared-CPU virtual machines; it currently lists an entry configuration of 1 vCPU, 0.5 GB RAM and 10 GB storage starting at $0.005 per hour. That is an entry price and specification, not evidence that the instance is adequate for OBS encoding. Cloud hosting can move the streaming workload off a home computer, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted delivery to YouTube. Vultr describes its product and app; YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and messages during a live broadcast.
How to configure Vultr Broadcaster to loop video
- Deploy the One Click A16 GPU Marketplace instance. Follow Vultr’s Broadcaster Marketplace guide. Check the current Marketplace listing and instance price before deployment because availability and pricing can change.
- Transfer your media to the server. Vultr’s guide lists SFTP, SCP, FTP or Rsync as transfer methods. Confirm you have enough server storage for the source file or playlist you intend to run.
- Set the stream destination and key. In YouTube Studio, create or configure the live stream and copy its stream key. Enter the destination details in Broadcaster/OBS as described in Vultr’s guide. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or include it in shared screenshots.
- Add the source in OBS. For one file, add a Media Source and enable Loop. For a playlist, Vultr points to VLC Video Source; configure the files there rather than assuming a single Media Source will cycle through multiple videos.
- Set encoder output and test. Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as the starting point, then test with audio and motion similar to the actual program before making the stream public.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages while it is live. A configured loop is not proof that YouTube is receiving a healthy signal.
YouTube encoder settings to check
YouTube’s official guidance recommends RTMPS for YouTube Live. Its encoder recommendations include H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe frequency; do not exceed four seconds. For H.264, the cited bitrate recommendations are 4 Mbps for 720p30, 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 12 Mbps for 1080p60. These are YouTube recommendations, not a Vultr-specific ingest benchmark. - Match quality to the server’s outbound path. In a cloud setup, the relevant connection is the server’s path to YouTube, not the upload speed of the computer used to configure it. The reviewed sources do not provide a Vultr-specific YouTube ingest benchmark.
- Test realistic content. YouTube advises testing with audio and motion comparable to the broadcast. A static image loop may put different demands on encoding than a documentary with frequent scene changes.
- Monitor while live. Watch YouTube’s stream health and messages so you can respond to dropped frames, connection warnings or other delivery problems.
- Check rights before looping. Use video and audio you have the right to broadcast on YouTube. A technically valid continuous stream does not establish that its content complies with YouTube’s copyright or monetization policies.
Can a regular Cloud Compute plan run OBS continuously?
The available official material does not verify that any particular regular Cloud Compute configuration can reliably encode a given resolution and frame rate in OBS. The required headroom depends on the encode workload, codec, frame rate, scenes or effects, and the server’s CPU and memory capacity. Storage must also accommodate the source media, while the outbound network path must sustain the chosen stream bitrate.
If you need a regular Cloud Compute plan rather than Broadcaster, treat the choice as a workload test—not a price-based recommendation. Start with the exact content and output settings you plan to use, run a representative test, and check for encoding overload, dropped frames and YouTube stream-health warnings before depending on it for a 24/7 channel. Vultr’s Cloud Compute overview describes flexible shared-CPU configurations, but does not specify a minimum for this OBS use case.

What a 24/7 loop does not guarantee
Vultr’s Broadcaster guide explains how to set up a continuous stream, but that should not be read as a service-level guarantee that an individual YouTube broadcast will never disconnect. Likewise, the reviewed YouTube encoder guidance does not settle archive behavior or duration limits for an indefinitely running stream. Monitor the broadcast and confirm any recording or archive you need rather than assuming it will be retained.
For a documentary channel, continuous playback also does not replace editorial and rights checks. Confirm that you have permission for every video and audio element, and consider whether repeatedly broadcasting the same material fits YouTube’s applicable policies and your channel’s goals.
