To run a YouTube music stream from a PC, enable live streaming on your channel, configure an encoder such as OBS with the stream’s server URL and key, then send a tested audio-and-video feed to YouTube Live. “Always-on” is the goal, not a guarantee: the stream depends on the PC staying powered and awake, its internet connection holding, and YouTube accepting the broadcast. For a stream that should continue without a home computer running, a cloud service is an alternative.
Before you set up the PC
Enable YouTube live streaming early
In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and follow the prompts to enable live streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so complete it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the current workflow.
Check the computer and the real location
OBS lists Windows 10/11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic Windows requirements, but meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee smooth encoding. CPU demand varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. OBS’s requirements page is dated 2021-08-25, so check it against the current OBS release and your PC before relying on it: OBS system requirements.
There is no India-specific upload-speed minimum, ISP recommendation or power-backup sizing rule established here. Test the actual connection and power conditions at the location where the PC will run. A desktop UPS is optional and may bridge a brief power interruption if sized for the connected load and needed runtime; it cannot fix an internet outage or guarantee uninterrupted streaming.

Set up an always-on stream with OBS
- Install OBS Studio. On first launch, run the Auto-Configuration Wizard to select an initial setup suited to the PC. Treat the result as a starting point; encoding load depends on the output settings and scene.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, then create a new stream or schedule one. In the stream setup view, locate and copy its server URL and stream key.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service or custom server option as appropriate, and enter the server URL and stream key from that YouTube stream. YouTube’s current encoder documentation describes the server/key workflow; its RTMPS guide was updated 2026-09-14 UTC: encoder setup and RTMPS for live streaming. Keep the key private: do not include it in a public screenshot, overlay or broadcast.
- Add the music and a visual. Add an audio source that carries the intended music and confirm it is present in OBS’s output mix. Add a simple visual, such as a creator-made still image or visualizer you have permission to use. Audio routing differs across Windows devices and hardware, so check the meters and listen to the encoder output rather than assuming a particular source is capturing sound.
- Rehearse privately. Start OBS and make an unlisted or private test stream. Monitor the YouTube preview from another device, verify that both sound and picture arrive, and observe the setup long enough to catch local problems. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted rehearsal for high-investment productions: YouTube for Artists.
- Go public and monitor. For the planned broadcast, start streaming in OBS, check the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room, then take the stream live if YouTube has not already done so under the stream’s settings. Keep an eye on the computer, network and power behavior under actual conditions.
- Keep the PC available. Prevent sleep or shutdown for the intended run, and make sure the PC remains powered and connected. These are local operating precautions, not a YouTube uptime guarantee.
Choose music you have the right to broadcast
Use music you created or music for which the necessary live-streaming rights are clear and documented. A personal subscription to a music service should not be treated as permission to rebroadcast its catalogue. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content; a match can replace the live video or interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed music can be interrupted if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s guidance is in copyright issues with live streams.
If using copyright-protected music, coordinate with the label or distributor and arrange any needed Content ID allowlisting before launch. YouTube for Artists recommends that coordination to help avoid issues such as copyright strikes. These are general platform considerations, not an India-specific legal analysis; confirm the rights that apply to your use and location.

Plan for long runs and replays
YouTube may automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving a replay matters, periodically end and restart the broadcast before it passes that threshold, and make a local recording when feasible. YouTube recommends recording a local archive: archive live streams.
Local recording uses additional storage and may add load to the PC. Test it during rehearsal and confirm that the resulting file contains usable audio and video before depending on it for a long broadcast.

Troubleshoot common interruptions
