You can set a Super Chat goal after your YouTube live stream has started. First make sure your channel is eligible for live streaming and Super Chat is enabled; then open the goal controls in live chat or the Live Control Room and choose the Super Chat goal option the interface provides. YouTube’s detailed numbered setup instructions currently describe gift goals, not a verified Super Chat-specific form, so use the fields shown for your stream rather than assuming gift-goal settings apply.
Before you start
A Super Chat goal is a YouTube live feature that lets viewers contribute toward a shared milestone. Super Chats can count toward the goal, but a goal is not a guarantee of a particular amount of support or income. YouTube recommends explaining the milestone and acknowledging supporters. - Live-stream access: YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Additional eligibility requirements can apply to monetization features. Check YouTube’s live-streaming prerequisites.
- Super Chat access: Super Chat must be available to your channel and turned on. Confirm this in YouTube Studio before scheduling the goal.
- A live broadcast: Goals become available after the stream has begun. The feature is documented for horizontal live streams and Premieres, and for desktop and mobile live streams, including mobile vertical streams. See YouTube’s Goals help page.
You do not need to buy a camera or encoder to create a goal. YouTube supports several ways to broadcast—including mobile, webcam, encoder, and console—and the method should fit your program. An encoder is optional and is useful for a more complex production, not a requirement for Super Chat goals. YouTube’s live-streaming tips describe encoder setups.
Set up the goal during the live stream
- Verify the channel and feature. Confirm that you can go live and that Super Chat is enabled for the channel. If Super Chat is unavailable, resolve the channel’s eligibility or feature settings before planning around a goal.
- Start the YouTube broadcast. Use your normal live-stream method. YouTube says the goal controls become available once the stream has begun.
- Open the goal controls. Look in the live chat or the Live Control Room for the goal controls, then select the Super Chat goal option exposed by the current interface. YouTube’s published numbered procedure covers gift goals; it does not establish a separate, verified click-by-click path for Super Chat goals.
- Enter the details shown. Use the fields YouTube presents for the Super Chat goal. Do not assume that gift-goal settings—such as a gift count or timer—also apply to Super Chat.
- Explain the milestone to viewers. Say what reaching the goal represents, that Supers are enabled, and how you plan to mark the moment. Thank supporters without suggesting a purchase guarantees the target or a celebration.
- Check the displayed goal. Confirm that viewers can see the goal and that it reflects what you intended before referring to its progress on air.
What to expect on an always-on stream
“Always-on” describes how the broadcast is operated; YouTube’s goal guidance does not describe a separate persistent-goal mode for streams that run indefinitely. It says goals become available after a stream begins, but does not state whether a Super Chat goal resumes after an encoder disconnect, a restarted broadcast, or creation of a new stream.

If the broadcast drops or you have to recreate it, inspect the Live Control Room and the viewer-facing goal display before telling viewers their progress carried over. Treat persistence across interruptions as unconfirmed unless the live interface shows otherwise.
YouTube’s Goals page says only one goal may run at a time and that another can be started after the current goal is reached, but that statement appears in guidance about gift goals. Check the current Super Chat goal interface for its applicable limit rather than assuming this restriction is identical. YouTube also cautions that purchases do not guarantee that a goal will be reached or that a celebration will occur.

Keep the goal separate from revenue promises
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live-stream revenue features. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, and a Super Chat goal does not promise a particular financial result. For the platform’s overview, see YouTube’s live-stream monetization guide.
