Restream says it starts automatically at the scheduled time, even if you are offline. You do not need an encoder for this workflow. Restream’s setup instructions call the feature a “Pre-recorded livestream.”
Before you schedule the event
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Restream says YouTube requires channel phone verification and a 24-hour wait before first-time live streaming. Check the current status in YouTube, especially if the event is soon. The person connecting the channel in Restream must own it; manager or editor access alone is not sufficient, according to Restream’s YouTube connection guidance.
- Have the finished video ready. You can select an existing video or upload a file. Restream says storage and file-size allowances vary by plan or add-on, so check the limits shown for your account before uploading. Its Help Center describes recorded-video streaming as available to all users, but that does not mean every plan has identical storage allowances. See What is Upload & Stream?.
- Know which Google account owns the channel. If you have multiple Google accounts, confirm the selected one during authorization.
Schedule a prerecorded YouTube Live stream in Restream
- Connect YouTube: On the Restream home screen, open Channels, choose Add New, select YouTube, choose the Google account associated with the intended channel, and authorize access. Confirm that the connected destination is the correct channel.
- Start a prerecorded event: Click + New Stream, select Pre-recorded livestream, then choose Video.
- Select the video: Pick a file from Uploads or Recordings, or upload it from your computer or mobile device. Check the selected file before moving on, particularly if your library has similarly named edits.
- Enter event details: Set the title, description, scheduled date, and time. Restream also documents optional looping, an advance event post, and a custom thumbnail. The looping option allows up to 10 repetitions; check the event controls if you need the video to repeat.
- Choose YouTube and create the event: Turn on the connected YouTube channel as a destination, then select Create Event. Restream says the video begins automatically at the scheduled time, with no encoder start required for this prerecorded workflow. Review the asset, event details, destination, and time before creating it.
- Monitor the broadcast: During playback, open the event from Restream’s home screen to view the stream and interact with chat.
Restream’s full walkthrough is Schedule your video as a pre-recorded event. Its separate article, Schedule your stream with Restream, covers scheduling more generally; do not confuse an encoder-based event with the prerecorded-video flow.
Prerecorded event or encoder-based live stream?
| Choose a prerecorded event when… | Choose an encoder-based stream when… |
|---|---|
| The video is already finished and should begin at a set time. | You need to send a live feed from an encoder. |
| You want Restream to start playback automatically while you may be offline. | You will send video to YouTube using its stream URL and key, check the Live Control Room preview, and click Go live. |
| You need to select or upload a video rather than produce a live camera or encoder feed. | You need an encoder-based production and operation workflow. |
The URL/key, preview, and Go live steps belong to YouTube’s encoder workflow, not to scheduling an uploaded prerecorded video. YouTube’s instructions for that distinct path are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Video settings: what matters for this workflow
You are scheduling a video file, so the encoder settings below are compatibility guidance for a source-production or encoder workflow—not settings you need to configure just to create a prerecorded event. Restream’s YouTube integration page lists H.264 video, resolutions from 240p through 2160p, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval with four seconds as the maximum. It lists AAC or MP3 audio, with 128 Kbps stereo or 384 Kbps 5.1 audio, and 44.1 kHz stereo or 48 kHz 5.1 sample rate. See Restream’s YouTube settings and compare them with YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for ingestion and publishes bitrate ranges by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Those recommendations apply when sending an encoder feed; they are not a reason to install or configure an encoder for the prerecorded event described above.
Copyright, event checks, and archiving
Scheduling a video as live does not remove the need to have rights to its footage, music, narration, photographs, or other material. Review the rights and permissions for the complete video before scheduling, and check current YouTube rules for the account and content. Do not assume that a prerecorded upload is exempt from copyright rules simply because it is broadcast as a live event.

For this workflow, verify the selected video, destination channel, title, description, date, and time before creating the event. If you plan to use the separate encoder workflow, YouTube advises testing the setup and checking the preview; for planned events it recommends setting up encoders at least two hours before and starting them at least 15 minutes ahead. Those lead times are encoder-operation guidance, not requirements for scheduling a prerecorded video. Details are in YouTube live streaming tips.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, a point also noted by Restream. That figure concerns archiving of streams; it is not a stated maximum duration for a prerecorded video upload. Consult YouTube’s encoder help and Restream’s YouTube integration page for those details.

Troubleshooting a scheduled prerecorded event
- YouTube is missing from the channel list: Open Channels and check the connected Google account. Reconnect with the account that owns the intended YouTube channel and authorize access.
- YouTube will not let the channel go live: Confirm live streaming is enabled and phone verification is complete. Restream describes a 24-hour wait after phone verification for first-time live streaming; check YouTube’s current account status if the wait has not elapsed.
- The video cannot be selected or uploaded: Check the storage and file-size allowance for your Restream plan or add-on, then confirm that you are selecting the intended file from Uploads or Recordings. Limits are account-dependent, as described in Restream’s Upload & Stream overview.
- The event does not appear to be starting: Reopen the event and verify its scheduled date, time, selected video, and enabled YouTube destination. The documented prerecorded workflow starts automatically at the scheduled time; it does not call for starting an encoder.
- You expected a preview and a Go live button: Those actions are part of the encoder-based YouTube Live path. Recheck whether you created a Pre-recorded livestream event or intended to send a live encoder feed.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel rather than a single scheduled event, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option for looping uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed.
- Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start a free day at StreamNeo registration.
