Build the broadcast in OBS with separate scenes for the welcome, story, breaks and closing; configure a Fade or Cut between them; connect OBS to a YouTube stream using the stream URL and key from Live Control Room; then test and monitor the output. OBS can loop a media file or a VLC playlist, but these features do not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Plan for a person to monitor the stream and respond to interruptions, and check YouTube’s handling of streams longer than 12 hours before relying on one continuous broadcast.
Before you build the stream
Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s live-stream guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. It also says the person going live must be at least 16 years old. Check the channel’s status before configuring OBS; an encoder setup cannot bypass an account restriction.
Clear the rights for every element
Confirm that you have the necessary rights for each story text, translation, illustration, music bed and recording, including the territories where the stream will be available. The status can differ by edition, translation, recording and territory, so do not assume that permission for one version covers another. If monetization is important, check YouTube’s current monetization rules separately; a technical setup does not establish that a channel or its content qualifies.
Choose a realistic continuity plan
A local OBS broadcast depends on the computer, its power, the OBS process and a stable internet connection continuing to work. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and testing the setup, but the documented OBS playback features do not certify gap-free looping or autonomous recovery. Decide who will check the stream and what they will do if OBS, the computer, the network or the YouTube connection fails.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish how to maintain an uninterrupted 24-hour channel, nor does it promise an archive for a longer stream. If you need a complete recording, verify the current archive behavior and plan your recording and broadcast schedule around it rather than assuming a single long session will be preserved.
Build the scenes and transitions in OBS
Create a scene for each part of the programme
- Make a scene collection. In OBS, create or select a scene collection for this channel so its scenes and sources are kept together.
- Add a Welcome scene. Add the opening image or video and any on-screen title. Keep its purpose clear: tell viewers what the channel is and prepare them for the story.
- Add a Story scene. Add the story video or images and the audio source you intend to use. Check that the artwork and text remain legible at the output resolution.
- Add a Break scene. Use a suitable still or video between stories, with audio handled intentionally. A silent image paired with a continuing music source, for example, will behave differently from a scene where the audio source changes; preview the arrangement rather than assuming the transition will manage sound for you.
- Add a Closing scene. Prepare an end card or other closing material. If the channel is intended to remain live, decide what follows it—such as another story or a return to Welcome—so the broadcast does not simply end when the closing item finishes.
OBS scenes are compositions of sources. Add image, text and media sources to the scene where they should appear, then check the scene order and visibility. If you use several sources, preview them together before going live to catch hidden, misplaced or unintentionally overlapping elements.
Set up the scene transitions
OBS includes built-in Fade and Cut transitions, and lets you configure a transition duration. Select the transition that suits the programme: a Cut changes immediately, while a Fade changes gradually. Set the duration to fit the pacing and test it with the actual story visuals and audio. There is no universally correct duration for every story or transition.

Use Studio Mode when you want to prepare a scene in preview before sending it to the live output. This can help you check the next scene and its sources before transitioning, but it does not replace a test broadcast or ongoing monitoring.
Choose how stories repeat
Loop one file
For a single local video, add an OBS Media Source and enable its Loop option. Play through the end and back to the start during a test. Check for a pause, abrupt audio change, black frame or other unwanted result at the boundary; the loop control itself is not a promise of gap-free playback.
Loop a playlist
For a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source, which requires VLC to be installed. Enable Loop Playlist and test the transition between every pair of items, including the final item returning to the first. Confirm that the intended file order, picture and audio are present in the live preview.

A playlist makes it easier to rotate several stories, but it does not solve rights, monitoring or continuity concerns. Verify every item and its playback before leaving the channel unattended—and do not treat a successful short test as proof of uninterrupted operation for a full day.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and select Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room.
- Set the audience accurately. Choose the audience designation for the actual content. YouTube says creators should not rely on machine-learning detection to decide whether content is made for kids.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Find them in Live Control Room and enter them in OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream, so do not publish it or show it in a recording.
- Check the OBS output settings. Match the encoder and stream settings to YouTube’s current guidance and the capability of your computer and connection (see the next section).
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Confirm that the expected picture and sound reach Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast. Use a private or unlisted test where appropriate.
Set output quality for the actual connection
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS, AAC or MP3 audio, and a constant bitrate (CBR). It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose resolution, frame rate and bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder-settings table and the upload capacity your connection can reliably sustain—not its best-case speed test or the highest quality OBS offers. A stream that exceeds the available upload capacity can become unstable even if the computer can encode it. If the preview or stream health indicates trouble, lower the output demand and test again.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The bitrate table’s appropriate value depends on the resolution and frame rate you select. Because those choices and your reliable upload rate are not specified here, use YouTube’s current table for the exact combination rather than applying a generic bitrate to every channel.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Set the Made for Kids audience setting with care
If the stream is Made for Kids, YouTube disables live chat, live chat donations, Super Chat and personalized ads; contextual ads may still appear. Other listed restrictions include comments, cards and end screens, notifications, and some channel features. Do not build the programme around chat participation or promise personalized-ad revenue for a stream with this designation.
Set the audience in Live Control Room based on the content, not on which features you would prefer to keep. YouTube says creators should make that determination rather than relying on automated detection.

Test before you publish, then monitor the stream
- Run a short test first. OBS’s Quick Start guidance recommends a test before the first stream. YouTube also recommends testing with representative audio and motion, so include a typical story, a scene transition, and a playback boundary—not only a static opening card.
- Watch the Live Control Room preview. Check that the correct scene, aspect and framing appear, and that the audio is audible and appropriate.
- Check stream health. Use YouTube’s stream-health information and address warnings before relying on the setup.
- Test the full sequence. Let the test play through a transition and, if practical, a loop or playlist boundary. Confirm that the next scene or item appears and that sound behaves as intended.
- Assign a monitor and recovery steps. For an always-on channel, arrange for someone to check the output and respond to an interruption. The cited OBS and YouTube setup guidance does not certify automatic recovery from a dropped connection or a failed computer.
Troubleshoot common problems
| What you see | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the OBS feed | Stream URL, stream key or encoder connection | Copy the current URL and key from the correct Live Control Room stream, check OBS’s stream settings, and reconnect. Keep the key private. |
| The YouTube preview is blank or shows the wrong content | Scene selection, source visibility or media playback | Inspect the active OBS scene and the visibility and playback state of its sources; preview the scene again before going live. |
| Video or audio is unstable | Output demand versus reliable upload capacity, or encoder settings | Check YouTube’s stream-health information, compare the chosen resolution and frame rate with YouTube’s current bitrate table, reduce output demand if needed, and retest. |
| A loop or playlist has an unwanted pause or audio jump | Media playback boundary or scene/source arrangement | Test the end-to-start boundary, confirm the Media Source Loop or VLC Loop Playlist setting, and adjust the source arrangement or content if the transition is unsuitable. |
| The stream stops when nobody is watching the computer | Local computer, power, OBS process or internet connection | Check the machine and connection, restart the encoder if needed, and restore the feed through Live Control Room. Add a human monitoring and recovery plan; the local looping controls do not provide a continuity guarantee. |
