The key limitation is that YouTube may not capture a stream longer than 12 hours, and OBS does not make a single computer or internet connection fail-proof. Clear the rights to every recording and plan monitoring, recovery, and archiving before you leave a stream running.
Before you set up the stream
Gather the recordings you have permission to broadcast, a computer that can run OBS continuously, and an internet connection with enough stable upload capacity for your chosen settings. For an always-on setup, also plan for power and network interruptions and decide who will check stream health and respond to problems.
Check YouTube channel eligibility
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Confirm eligibility before building the broadcast workflow; an encoder setup cannot bypass channel restrictions. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Clear rights to the recordings
Bhajan, devotional, traditional, or religious music is not automatically free to livestream. Rights can differ between the underlying composition and a particular recording. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content; detection can lead to a replaced image, interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID to avoid an interruption. Create the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room.
- Choose to create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling gives you time to share the event before it begins; make sure the event is configured for an encoder workflow.
- Open the stream’s settings and copy the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s reset workflow and update OBS with the replacement key.
- Keep the Live Control Room open so you can see the incoming preview and stream health after OBS connects.

Connect OBS and choose stable settings
Enter the YouTube connection details
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
- Set the service to YouTube, then select the option to use a stream key or custom connection details if needed.
- Enter the stream URL and key copied from the Live Control Room. Do not share the key in screenshots, public chat, or a public document.
- Set up your bhajan video and audio in OBS, then start the encoder. Confirm that the preview appears in the Live Control Room before choosing Go live if the scheduled event’s settings require that confirmation.
Labels and layout can vary by OBS version. YouTube’s current encoder instructions recommend RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval (not more than 4 seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Its bitrate guidance below is for YouTube ingest; it is not a guarantee that your connection can sustain the stream.

YouTube also recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio. Use the resolution and bitrate your actual upload connection can sustain, rather than choosing a higher setting because it is available. The figures here are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026; consult its current encoder settings and bitrate guidance for other resolutions, frame rates, and codecs.

Leave upload headroom
Measure the connection’s upload capacity under conditions similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube recommends leaving approximately 20% upload headroom. Other devices, network congestion, or an unstable connection can reduce available capacity, so test the intended bitrate before relying on it for a continuous session. A wired connection can be a practical reliability measure, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted service. See YouTube’s encoder guidance and streaming tips.

Test the full broadcast before going public
- Run a private or unlisted test using audio and video movement comparable to the real bhajan stream.
- Watch the Studio preview and stream-health indicators while OBS is sending. Check for dropped frames, connection warnings, audio problems, and interruptions.
- Listen on another device to confirm that the bhajan audio is audible and balanced, and check that the intended video is showing.
- If you plan to record locally, start the recording and verify that the file is being created and growing. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup.
- Do not begin the unattended run until the test is stable at the settings you intend to use.

Choose a session and archive plan
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a continuous 24-hour session is not a safe way to create a complete YouTube archive. One continuous session
A single long session avoids planned handoffs, but it puts more weight on continuous power, network access, OBS operation, monitoring, and local recording. Do not rely on YouTube’s archive for a stream that exceeds 12 hours.
Multiple shorter sessions
Breaking the day into sessions under 12 hours makes each session eligible for automatic archiving, but eligibility is not a guarantee of a complete archive. Each handoff requires an operator or a reliable restart procedure, and a gap can occur between sessions. Schedule and test transitions if a near-continuous channel matters.
Operate the stream as an ongoing service
OBS sends the feed from the computer running it; YouTube Studio provides controls and status. The documented workflow does not promise uninterrupted operation from one OBS computer or provide a complete always-on failover design. Treat 24/7 operation as a goal that requires monitoring and recovery planning, not a setting that guarantees uptime.

- Keep the broadcast computer connected to reliable power and network access.
- Decide how often someone will check OBS and the Live Control Room, including overnight.
- Write down how to restart OBS, reconnect the stream, and confirm that the Studio preview has returned.
- Keep the stream key private and know how to reset it if exposed.
- Preserve a local recording if retaining the complete bhajan broadcast matters.
Troubleshoot common problems
No preview appears in YouTube Studio
Check that OBS is using the correct stream URL and current key, that the encoder is started, and that the selected Studio event is the one receiving the feed. If the key was reset or exposed, replace it in OBS. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview and complete the Studio Go live step when required.
Studio reports poor stream health or video drops
Reduce the video bitrate or resolution to a level the upload connection can sustain, check whether other devices are using the connection, and repeat a test. Preserve YouTube’s recommended 2-second keyframe interval and leave upload headroom rather than trying to compensate by raising bitrate.
The stream stops during a bhajan recording
Check Studio alerts and the relevant recording’s rights. A license does not necessarily prevent a Content ID interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Contact the rights owner or distributor to resolve the match and confirm permission for the specific recording.

The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete
Check the session duration: streams over 12 hours may not be captured. For future broadcasts, record locally and consider shorter sessions if YouTube archives are important; verify that the local file is growing during the stream.
