For a 4K/60 YouTube Live stream in OBS, use 50,000 Kbps with H.264 or 35,000 Kbps with AV1 or H.265, if your OBS version and encoder support the chosen codec. Set rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. For planning, YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom: aim for roughly 60 Mbps of stable available upload for the H.264 setting or 42 Mbps for AV1/H.265. Those are upload targets—not advertised download speeds or guarantees from Indian fiber providers.
Recommended OBS settings for 4K 60fps YouTube Live
YouTube’s current live encoder recommendations specify different bitrates by codec for 2160p at 60 fps. The OBS labels and available encoder choices vary by version and hardware; choose only a codec your system actually offers and can encode reliably.
| Codec sent to YouTube | Recommended video bitrate | Approximate stable available upload target with 20% headroom |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 50,000 Kbps (50 Mbps) | About 60 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 | 35,000 Kbps (35 Mbps) | About 42 Mbps |
The codec-specific ingest recommendations come from YouTube’s live encoder settings. Upload targets apply YouTube’s separate 20% headroom guidance to the video bitrate as a planning calculation; they are not quoted YouTube thresholds. Audio, a configured backup stream, and other network use require additional capacity.
Set OBS for a YouTube 4K60 stream
- Open OBS output settings. Go to Settings > Output, select the streaming output mode and choose the encoder available on your computer. Exact labels and options depend on your OBS version and encoder hardware. For NVIDIA NVENC-specific controls, see the OBS NVENC documentation.
- Set rate control and bitrate. Choose CBR. Enter 50,000 Kbps for H.264, or 35,000 Kbps for AV1/H.265. Do not select a lower recommended rate just because it is lower if your encoder does not support that codec or cannot handle it well.
- Set the keyframe interval. Enter 2 seconds. YouTube says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds.
- Configure YouTube and the connection. In YouTube’s live-stream settings, use the stream key for the intended broadcast and RTMPS where available. YouTube lists RTMPS as its secure streaming protocol and supports a maximum frame rate of 60 fps.
- Test the actual scene before going live. Include the kind of motion and audio the stream will have. Watch YouTube stream health and OBS statistics during the test and broadcast; a single speed test cannot establish that upload will stay stable for the entire event.
How much upload speed Indian fiber needs
Use the upload capacity that remains reliably available to the stream at its location and broadcast time—not the plan’s advertised download speed or the word “fiber.” YouTube notes that download is often faster than outbound upload, and that other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce capacity available to a live stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- For a 50 Mbps H.264 video stream, plan around 60 Mbps of stable available upload, plus capacity for audio and any backup stream.
- For a 35 Mbps AV1/H.265 video stream, plan around 42 Mbps of stable available upload, again allowing for audio and any backup stream.
- If YouTube backup streaming is configured, include the primary and backup bitrates in your upload-capacity calculation.
These figures do not establish a universal Indian broadband threshold. Provider, plan, location, local network load, and conditions at the time of the stream matter. The sources cited here do not establish an India-wide fiber upload rate or a provider-specific guarantee. YouTube advises testing upload bitrate and maintaining a reliable network. Test from the computer and connection you will use, preferably near the planned broadcast time, and account for household or office traffic. If Wi-Fi appears unreliable, testing over Ethernet can help isolate the local wireless link; a cable does not increase the upload capacity supplied by your ISP.
Check and troubleshoot before the broadcast
- YouTube reports poor stream health or OBS drops frames: compare the measured stable upload with the video bitrate plus headroom, audio, and any backup stream. Retest when other household or office use is lower. A speed test is a snapshot, so monitor the live connection as well.
- The selected codec or setting is missing: available choices depend on OBS version and encoder hardware. Use an available encoder and the recommendation for the codec actually being sent; do not assume every system has AV1 or H.265.
- The stream does not match the intended format: confirm the scene test uses the intended 4K resolution and 60 fps, then verify stream health and OBS statistics before the event.
- A backup stream is enabled: recalculate capacity using both primary and backup bitrates, rather than treating the primary stream alone as the total load.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded documentary footage live on YouTube continuously, rather than stream a live OBS scene from a camera or desktop, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud loops the uploaded videos, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no re-encoding or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
