Set up channel memberships in YouTube Studio under Earn → Memberships, then choose perks viewers can receive reliably while your stream loops. A practical starting point is to keep the loop public and offer members participation or recognition—such as members-only chat, badges, or custom emoji—rather than promising a constant schedule of extra content.
How do I set up YouTube membership perks?
- Check availability. Confirm that Memberships is available and enabled for your channel. Eligibility, location, and policy requirements apply; see YouTube’s channel memberships guidance.
- Open the membership editor. On a computer, go to YouTube Studio and select Earn → Memberships. In the levels-and-perks card, choose Edit.
- Create levels and perks. You can set up to six levels, with one to five perks in each. Choose from the prices available in Studio. Each level needs at least one perk, and higher-priced levels automatically include perks from lower levels.
- Publish for review. Submit the levels and perks for YouTube’s review. YouTube Help estimates about a day for this review. A separate activation review after acceptance into the YouTube Partner Program may take up to two days.
- Review the results. After launch, use membership level, acquisition, and retention data in Studio to see how the offer is performing. Adjust the benefits to fit what members value and what you can consistently provide.
Interface labels and eligibility can change. Check the current Studio interface and YouTube’s live guidance when setting up your channel.
What perks work for a 24/7 livestream?
For a looping channel, it is often more sustainable to leave the main stream available to everyone and make participation or recognition the membership benefit. YouTube’s documented options include:
- Members-only live chat: everyone can watch a public livestream, while only members can post in its chat.
- Badges and custom emoji: give members visible recognition in comments and live chat.
- Members-only livestreams: reserve these for a distinct stream or event you can actually deliver, rather than making the always-on loop inaccessible by default.
- Members-only posts, polls, or members-first videos: these can support schedules, updates, behind-the-scenes material, or early access when you can publish them consistently.
- Member Milestone Chats: eligible members can send one special highlighted message per month, starting with their second consecutive membership month; the feature can be used on livestreams and Premieres.
These are design options, not a YouTube-prescribed tier formula. YouTube advises creators to consider the time or cost of delivering each perk. Start with benefits your channel can sustain, and make the extra value of each higher level clear.

How do I enable members-only chat on a public stream?
Members-only chat limits who can participate; it does not make the public stream members-only. In YouTube Studio, create or open the livestream, open its settings, enable members-only chat, and save. Check the stream’s audience and chat settings before it begins so the viewing access remains what you intend.
How should I design levels that stack?
Because higher levels inherit perks from lower ones, compare the full cumulative offer before publishing. For each level, weigh audience value, your time and cost, whether the perk changes access or adds recognition, and whether you can deliver it on a predictable schedule.

Avoid adding levels that differ only in price. Give each higher level a distinct additional benefit, and do not promise a cadence of posts or special streams that the channel cannot maintain.
Can a looping livestream be monetized on YouTube?
Looping alone is not identified as an automatic bar to monetization in YouTube’s cited policy. Monetized content must meet YouTube’s originality and authenticity standards, and its policy discusses generic, repetitive, or mass-produced content as inauthentic. The policy says the substance of each video should be materially varied and deliver creative, educational, or other value; it also says channel-level reviews include livestreams within “video.” How YouTube assesses a particular loop depends on the content and channel, so do not assume that simply repeating a video guarantees eligibility.

Make the original value of the stream clear, and consult YouTube’s current channel monetization policies if the content remains largely unchanged for long periods. Membership perks must also comply with YouTube’s membership policies, and creators are responsible for delivering what they promise. In particular, do not offer downloads of content available on YouTube as a membership perk.
