To run different playlists on multiple YouTube channels, create a scheduled live event in each channel’s YouTube Studio Live Control Room, then configure OBS with the playlist and matching stream details for the event you intend to broadcast. YouTube schedules the broadcast event; OBS supplies the video feed. OBS does not document a built-in feature that automatically maps each event’s schedule to a different playlist.
How the YouTube and OBS schedules fit together
YouTube’s Live Control Room is where you schedule an upcoming broadcast and connect an encoder to it. YouTube says scheduling lets you promote a stream; it can also provide a shareable upcoming-stream URL and let viewers set reminders. OBS handles the media and scenes it sends. These are separate parts of the workflow, not one shared playlist scheduler. See YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions and the OBS Media Sources guide.
For multiple channels, repeat the event setup for each channel, then make sure the OBS output is connected to the intended channel’s event. This matching step follows from YouTube’s channel-specific events and encoder connection details; it is not an automatic cross-channel playlist assignment feature.
Set up separate playlists for scheduled broadcasts
- Create or select the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, switch to the channel that will host the broadcast, open Live Control Room, choose Manage, and schedule a stream or select an existing event. Repeat this on every channel that needs its own broadcast.
- Keep the event details matched. Note which channel and event each playlist belongs to. At broadcast time, connect OBS using that event’s stream URL and key, or use YouTube’s supported account integration and select the intended broadcast. Follow the current steps in YouTube Help, since interface labels can change.
- Build each playlist in OBS. Add a VLC Video source for the ordered media, or make a separate scene for each playlist and layout. The VLC source supports multiple items, looping, shuffling, and visibility behavior. Leave shuffle off when order matters. See OBS’s VLC Video source guide.
- Check both sides before going live. Confirm the selected OBS scene contains the intended playlist and that OBS is connected to the matching YouTube channel and event. A correct playlist sent to the wrong event—or the wrong scene sent to the right event—will still produce the wrong broadcast.
VLC prerequisite
OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC Media Player to be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well. OBS’s Media Sources guide documents this requirement and the source’s playlist controls.

Schedule different time blocks during one continuous stream
A scheduled YouTube event is one broadcast; it does not by itself switch OBS playlists at a particular clock time. For morning, afternoon, or evening blocks within one continuous stream, prepare separate scenes or sources for the blocks and switch between them manually, or investigate scene automation.
A third-party result dated October 3, 2026, recommends Advanced Scene Switcher for timed scene changes, but its current workflow and compatibility were not verified here. Before relying on any automation plugin, check its current instructions against your installed OBS version and test a complete playlist transition while offline. OBS’s Sources Guide covers adding sources to scenes; its Media Sources guide covers VLC playlists. Neither documents a built-in clock-based playlist scheduler.

Choose the arrangement that matches your schedule
- Separate scheduled broadcasts: Create a YouTube event for each broadcast and connect OBS to the event and playlist intended for it.
- One continuous broadcast with time blocks: Arrange each block as a separate scene or source, then change scenes manually or use tested automation.
- Fixed playlist order: Use a VLC Video source and keep shuffle off.
- Randomized playback: Turn shuffle on only if a changing order is acceptable.
Common setup problems
The wrong playlist appears
Check the active OBS scene and its VLC source contents. If the scene is correct, verify that you have connected OBS to the event for the intended channel rather than another channel’s event.
The VLC Video source is unavailable or does not play
Confirm VLC Media Player is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. For 64-bit OBS, the OBS guide specifies 64-bit VLC.

The playlist plays in an unexpected order
Inspect the VLC source’s shuffle setting. Turn it off for a fixed sequence; use looping only if you want playback to repeat.
A playlist does not change at the planned time
YouTube event scheduling does not trigger an OBS playlist change. Use a manual scene change or configure and test a compatible automation workflow before the live broadcast.

The stream connects to the wrong channel or event
Recheck the channel selected in YouTube Studio and the event’s stream details used by OBS. Each channel’s event and OBS media selection must be matched deliberately.
