In OBS Studio, go to Settings → Output → Streaming and set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. If you cannot see the control, change Output Mode to Advanced. YouTube recommends keyframes every two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. That guidance is platform-wide; the cited YouTube settings do not specify a different interval for streams from India.
Set the interval in OBS

Open OBS Studio and select Settings.

Select Output. If the streaming encoder controls are not visible, change Output Mode to Advanced.

Open the Streaming section or tab, then find the encoder’s Keyframe Interval control.

Set the interval to 2 seconds and apply the settings. Check the control’s units before entering a value: some encoders display seconds, while others may use frames.

The menu sequence is a practical guide, not a guarantee that every OBS release, operating system, or encoder uses identical labels. OBS controls vary with version and available hardware encoders. See the OBS advanced recording settings guide for encoder-control context; its examples concern recording, not YouTube’s live-stream requirement.
Convert two seconds to frames if needed
If the OBS control asks for frames rather than seconds, multiply the interval in seconds by the stream’s frame rate. YouTube’s example is 30 fps × 2 seconds = 60 frames. At 60 fps, two seconds is 120 frames; entering 60 at 60 fps would produce a one-second interval, not two.

YouTube says to change the keyframe frequency when changing frame rate so keyframes continue to arrive every two seconds. Its live-streaming error guidance also notes that ingest errors can affect GOP size and that a closed GOP is required for optimal transcoding.

The keyframe interval is only one part of a healthy stream. YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings list H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs, frame rates up to 60 fps, and recommend constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport to its servers.
For H.264, YouTube publishes these example video bitrates. They are platform recommendations, not measured results or guarantees of quality; test whether your actual upload connection can sustain the chosen settings.

Match OBS’s output resolution to the resolution selected for ingestion, choose a bitrate your upload connection can support, and test with representative motion and audio. YouTube recommends checking upload speed and monitoring stream health during the event.
Troubleshoot a keyframe warning

Warning says keyframes are too far apart or too frequent: set the encoder to deliver them every two seconds. Verify whether its control uses seconds or frames, and use the actual streaming frame rate in any conversion.

The interval looks right but the warning remains: inspect YouTube’s stream-health diagnostics and the encoder’s GOP behavior. YouTube notes that ingest errors may cause incorrect GOP sizes and requires a closed GOP for optimal transcoding.

YouTube reports incorrect video settings or resolution: check that OBS output resolution agrees with the selected ingestion resolution and that the bitrate fits your connection.

Video or audio is unreliable in the preview: run another preflight test with representative movement and audio, then monitor stream health during the broadcast.
