Yes. RadioBOSS can send a station directly to YouTube Live through a custom RTMP encoder. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into RadioBOSS, add a Broadcast encoder that uses that custom encoder, and start the output. Because RadioBOSS’s RTMP setup also asks for a background image or video, prepare a visual you have permission to stream.
What you need before you start
- A working RadioBOSS installation with the RTMP option available. If RadioBOSS prompts you to install its RTMP plugin, follow the prompt.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before a planned broadcast; that is a possible delay, not a typical measured wait. YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- The stream’s RTMP server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your stream.
- A background image or video file that you have rights to use. The RadioBOSS manual’s instructions reviewed for this setup do not specify required dimensions or file formats.
How to send RadioBOSS to YouTube Live
1. Create or select a YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go Live.
- Create a stream or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the RTMP server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep the key private.
YouTube’s labels and layout can change, so use the server URL and key displayed for the selected stream rather than relying on a saved value from a different stream. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
2. Add a custom RTMP encoder in RadioBOSS
- In RadioBOSS, open Settings → Options → Broadcast → Custom Encoders.
- Add a custom encoder and give it a recognizable name, such as
YT-Live. - Choose RTMP as the encoder type.
- Enter the YouTube RTMP server URL and stream key in the corresponding fields.
- Select the background image or video file for the stream.
- If RadioBOSS asks to install the RTMP plugin, accept the prompt, then save the RTMP and custom-encoder dialogs.
These fields follow the RadioBOSS manual’s RTMP setup. The custom encoder carries the YouTube destination details; the next step connects it to RadioBOSS’s Broadcast output.
3. Add the custom encoder to Broadcast
- Open RadioBOSS’s Broadcast area and add a streaming encoder.
- Set the Server field to
[rtmp]. - In the Encoder field, select the custom encoder you just created, such as
YT-Live. - Save the settings and confirm that the broadcast encoder is enabled or started when you are ready to send audio.
4. Confirm the YouTube preview and start the scheduled stream
- Start RadioBOSS’s broadcast output.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears. An incoming encoder feed alone is not the same as starting the scheduled broadcast in the Control Room.
- Monitor the stream in Live Control Room. When finished, end the stream there and stop the RadioBOSS output.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive threshold, not a promise about how long a stream will remain available in every circumstance. YouTube encoder setup guidance.

What this direct setup does—and does not—require
The documented RadioBOSS route sends the station to YouTube using RTMP directly; it does not require a separate intermediary for this setup. RadioBOSS does require a background visual as part of its RTMP configuration. The documentation reviewed does not establish that you need a new audio interface, virtual audio cable, OBS installation, or dedicated encoder. Those may be relevant for separate production needs, such as mixing external microphones or building a more elaborate visual scene.
RadioBOSS Cloud’s manual describes a different path: configuring RadioBOSS as an Icecast source for RadioBOSS Cloud. That is not the direct YouTube RTMP method above. See the RadioBOSS Cloud encoder instructions for that separate service.

Troubleshooting a missing preview or unavailable stream
YouTube shows no incoming preview
- Check that the RTMP URL and stream key came from the correct YouTube stream.
- Confirm that the Broadcast encoder’s Server is
[rtmp]and its Encoder selection is your custom RTMP encoder. - If RadioBOSS prompted for the RTMP plugin, confirm that it was installed.
- Check that the RadioBOSS broadcast output is enabled and started.
These checks correspond to the documented setup fields; the RadioBOSS manual does not enumerate YouTube-specific error messages.
You cannot start a live stream yet
If this is the channel’s first live stream, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Complete the activation ahead of your planned broadcast and check the channel’s Live Control Room again after it is available.

The stream appears in preview but is not public
For a scheduled stream, use Go live in YouTube Live Control Room after the incoming preview appears. Starting RadioBOSS sends the feed; the Control Room action starts the scheduled broadcast.
