Test the station’s exact URL first: an internet-accessible radio feed is not guaranteed to work in every OBS source, and public access does not give you permission to rebroadcast it.

Confirm the feed and your rights
Get the station’s exact online stream URL and permission from the station or relevant rights holders to rebroadcast its audio on YouTube. Confirm that permission covers the intended platform and territory, and ask whether the owner must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A radio or web-stream licence does not automatically establish YouTube rights.
Check that OBS can play the actual URL
OBS documents Media Source support for MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV files, and its VLC Video source uses VLC libraries for extended media support and provides a network-caching setting. Those documented capabilities do not guarantee that every live station endpoint will work: compatibility depends on the feed’s format and endpoint. Test the exact URL in the source you plan to use before scheduling the broadcast. OBS: Media Sources
How to add a Kannada radio stream to OBS and YouTube Live
- Build an OBS scene. Add an audio source for the station feed. If using VLC Video, configure the exact network URL and adjust network caching if needed. Add a still image, station logo or other visual you are authorized to use; YouTube Live receives a video stream, not audio alone.
- Verify the audio in OBS. Start the source and confirm that its level appears in the OBS audio mixer. Listen for the correct station feed and check that it does not keep cutting out. Resolve source compatibility before proceeding.
- Create or select a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live, then create a stream in Live Control Room or choose an existing one. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube Help: Live streaming with an encoder
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings. Use YouTube’s RTMPS ingest where your encoder supports it. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not share or publish it.
- Set and check encoder output. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 or AV1 for video ingest; use constant bitrate (CBR) encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. For typical stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Choose video resolution, frame rate and bitrate your upload connection can sustain; YouTube’s recommended video bitrate varies by codec, resolution and frame rate. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
- Start OBS and inspect the preview. Wait for the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the visual is present, the intended Kannada station audio is audible, and stream health is acceptable. YouTube recommends a preflight test using audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast and monitoring stream health during the event. Do not select Go live until the preview is right.
- Go live and monitor. Select Go live in Live Control Room, then keep watching the audio and stream health. If the feed drops or the wrong source plays, stop and correct it rather than leaving a broken broadcast running.
- End the broadcast cleanly. Select End Stream in Live Control Room and stop sending content from OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Why OBS may not play the radio stream URL
- The endpoint or format is unsupported by that source: OBS’s documented file formats do not amount to a guarantee for every live URL. Try the exact URL in a VLC-based source, check the station’s stream details, and test before going live.
- The source connects but audio is silent: Confirm the URL is the audio feed rather than a station webpage, make sure the source is active, and check that its level is visible in the OBS mixer. Listen to the preview before starting the public broadcast.
- The stream stutters or disconnects: Check whether the station feed itself is stable, then review the VLC source’s network-caching setting and your upload connection. A larger cache can help with network variation but may add delay; retest after changing it.
- YouTube does not receive a usable stream: Verify the server URL and stream key in OBS against Live Control Room, confirm the encoder is sending, and wait for a preview before going live. If live streaming is newly enabled, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube warns about third-party material: Do not assume a licence alone prevents interruption. Contact the rights owner and confirm whether they must allowlist your channel through Content ID.
Copyright and YouTube enforcement
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects third-party material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. For licensed content, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

The specific rights position depends on the station, rights holders, territory and licence; it cannot be determined from the fact that a feed is publicly listenable. Obtain platform-specific permission before broadcasting.
