To rotate seasonal programming, schedule the YouTube event, then use an encoder or streaming service that can play your files and switch them on the dates and times you set. Test that full chain before the seasonal launch.
Two schedules are involved
YouTube Studio schedules the broadcast event: its planned start time, watch page, and reminder option. A separate playback system sends the live audio and video to that event. The playback system—not a YouTube watch-page playlist—must handle continuous playback and seasonal file changes.
For a 24/7 channel, decide whether you need one continuous broadcast with a changing playlist or separate scheduled events for different programming blocks. Either way, confirm that your chosen encoder or service supports unattended playback, timed switching, and the media formats you plan to use. These controls vary by product.
Check channel readiness first
- Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, as required by YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Allow up to 24 hours for first-time live streaming to activate. Do not leave verification or activation until the seasonal launch day.
- Prepare the video files and confirm that they play correctly in the selected encoder or service. Check the playlist order, audio, and intended changeover times.
Schedule the event and connect the feed
- In YouTube Studio, open Create, then Go live to reach Live Control Room. Open Manage, choose Schedule stream, then create an event or reuse suitable settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains event creation and connecting an encoder.
- Enter the event details, including the planned start time, and save the event. Scheduling creates an upcoming event page viewers can visit and set reminders for; it does not start playback of your files.
- Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into the encoder or streaming service. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or include it in a public playlist or description.
- Set up the playback system’s own playlist or timetable. Specify which files play, their order, and the dates, times, and time zone for seasonal transitions. Confirm how the tool behaves if a file is missing or playback restarts.
- Test the entire path: start the feed, check the YouTube preview, verify that it is connected to the intended event, and inspect playback on the channel and watch page. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes ahead; monitor audio and video quality during the test. Test the seasonal changeover
Run a rehearsal that crosses the intended changeover time. Check that the new playlist starts when expected, that the previous item ends cleanly, and that the order remains correct after a restart. Confirm which time zone the scheduler uses, whether it observes daylight-saving changes, and what happens if the service or computer loses power or internet access during the transition.

- Confirm all scheduled files are uploaded or available locally before their playback time.
- Check that the playback system stays running unattended and that any required account or storage access remains valid.
- Test interruption recovery and monitoring. Do not assume a product will resume the correct item or reconnect automatically; verify its behavior.
- Keep a written schedule with the event start time, stream destination, playlist order, and person responsible for checking the broadcast.
Choose where playback runs
A local encoder gives you direct control over files and scenes, but the computer, power, and internet connection must remain available. A cloud service removes the need to leave a home computer running, but playlist scheduling, time-zone controls, recovery, monitoring, supported formats, maximum duration, and cost depend on the provider and plan. Compare those specific capabilities rather than assuming either setup is inherently more reliable.
For a vendor-specific example, OneStream Live’s help page describes making a 24-hour stream, adding videos from device or cloud storage, connecting a YouTube channel, and scheduling the broadcast. Its page, updated September 3, 2026, says the feature requires an Enterprise plan and has a maximum duration of 30 days. These are the vendor’s stated terms; verify current availability, plan requirements, and limits before relying on that workflow. See OneStream Live’s 24/7 streaming instructions.

Clear rights before scheduling
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If you have licensed third-party material, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruptions. Check permissions for every video, music track, and other included work before putting it on the schedule. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Do not assume a schedule makes content monetizable
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. The policy update of July 15, 2025, renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Reused content is assessed separately from copyright. A seasonal schedule by itself does not determine eligibility; the channel and its programming still need to offer substantive original value and comply with policy. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Make a separate archive plan
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not promise a complete archive of a continuous 24/7 broadcast. If viewers need to replay seasonal programs, plan how you will preserve and make those recordings available separately. For technical context, Google’s Live Streaming API documentation treats broadcasts and streams as separate resources and describes continuous-broadcast behavior; it is not a no-code playlist scheduler.

Troubleshoot common scheduling failures
- The event page exists, but no video plays: Event scheduling does not supply a feed. Start the encoder or service and check that it is sending to the event’s stream URL and key.
- The wrong event receives the feed: Compare the destination URL and key in the playback system with the event selected in Live Control Room. Correct the destination, then test the preview before announcing the event.
- The seasonal playlist changes at the wrong time: Check the scheduler’s configured time zone, daylight-saving behavior, and saved transition time. Rehearse the boundary with a short test playlist.
- A video is skipped or stops playback: Check that the file is available to the playback system and plays in its supported format. Review playlist order and restart behavior, then run the sequence again.
- The stream drops or is interrupted: Check local power and internet if playback runs on a computer; for a cloud service, check its status, monitoring, and recovery controls. A copyright match may also interrupt the feed, so review YouTube’s copyright guidance and confirm the rights for the affected material.
- No automatic archive appears: YouTube’s stated automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed full archive for a 24/7 stream. Use a separate recording or archive plan if a complete replay is required.
