To air a video at the event time, you must also send it to YouTube as a live feed from an encoder or cloud service. For a recurring setup, schedule each event in YouTube Studio and confirm that your chosen playback method supports the repeat pattern and unattended operation you need.
What scheduling does—and what it does not do
A scheduled stream creates an upcoming YouTube event page with a title, start time, and audience settings. It can appear in subscriber feeds, where viewers may choose “Notify me.” It does not turn a video file into a live broadcast or start playback automatically. An encoder or streaming service must send the prerecorded video to YouTube as the live feed.
There are therefore two separate jobs: create the audience-facing event in YouTube, and arrange for a playback source to transmit the video at the right time. YouTube’s encoder workflow covers connecting a feed to an event; recurrence and unattended playback depend on the encoder or service you choose.
Before you schedule: check channel eligibility and prepare the video
Confirm live streaming is available
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days to livestream. Check eligibility before building a schedule around a broadcast.

Choose a playback method that fits the recurrence
A self-managed encoder can send a video file as a live feed, but the computer and encoder must remain available and configured for the broadcast. A cloud service can host playback instead. Do not assume that YouTube’s event scheduler controls repeat playback: verify that the encoder or service supports your desired playlist, repeat pattern, and level of unattended operation.
Check rights and audience expectations
Make sure you have the rights needed to livestream the documentary, its footage, music, and other included material. A scheduled event is still a YouTube livestream, so scheduling does not bypass copyright rules or guarantee that content will remain available. Label the event clearly as a prerecorded presentation so viewers are not misled into expecting a camera-based live broadcast.

Schedule the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go live → Manage.
- Create the event or reuse settings. Choose the option to schedule a stream, or select a previous stream and reuse its settings. YouTube says reusing settings copies metadata, settings, and the stream key, and lets you edit the new stream. Review everything rather than assuming the copied details are right.
- Set the event details. Enter the title, description, privacy, and scheduled start time. Check the event page and share it with viewers if useful. For scheduled streams, viewers can opt into reminders from the upcoming event page.
- Connect the playback source. In YouTube’s stream settings, get the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder or service that will send the prerecorded video. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Confirm the correct event is connected. If you reused settings or created more than one upcoming event, check that the encoder is configured for the intended event and that its metadata and stream-key settings are current.
Send a prerecorded video from an encoder
With a self-managed encoder, configure the software to play the file and transmit its output to YouTube using the stream URL and key. The exact menus vary by encoder, so follow its current instructions for adding a media file and configuring an RTMPS output. YouTube recommends RTMPS as a secure ingestion protocol and publishes encoder guidance for bitrate, resolution, and related settings.
Use settings the source file and connection can sustain; do not select a higher resolution or bitrate simply because the option is available. Set up the encoder well in advance, confirm the preview in YouTube Studio, and monitor both audio and video. A successful event schedule does not establish that the encoder is sending a healthy feed.

Test and run the event reliably
- Prepare early. YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours before the stream.
- Start the encoder ahead of the event. YouTube recommends starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
- Check the Studio preview. Confirm that the intended video is playing, the picture is visible, and audio is present before the event begins.
- Monitor stream health and playback. Watch for interruptions, missing audio, or the wrong source. If a stream is interrupted, use the encoder or service’s recovery controls and check YouTube Studio before telling viewers the event is underway.
- For the next occurrence, verify the setup again. Reusing settings can reduce event-creation work, but it does not prove that a playback schedule has been created. Check the new event, encoder configuration, start time, and media selection.
Options for recurring prerecorded streams

YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That listing establishes the category of use, not the provider’s current pricing, plan details, or support for every recurring-event pattern. Check its current documentation before relying on it.
