You can schedule a YouTube Live event, but YouTube Studio does not schedule and loop prerecorded files by itself. To keep prerecorded videos playing as an always-on live stream, create or schedule the live event in YouTube Studio, then connect an encoder or cloud service that can play and loop your content and send it to YouTube. Scheduling a regular video upload only makes that video public at a chosen time; it does not create a live feed.
What scheduling does—and what it does not do
A scheduled YouTube Live event creates an upcoming event page that you can share and that may appear to subscribers. It does not start an encoder, supply a playlist, or keep prerecorded videos playing. You need a separate playback-and-encoding method to send the live feed.
For a continuous stream, choose a method that can play a playlist or loop, run for the intended duration, and recover after an interruption. YouTube lists encoder software and hardware as ways to stream and identifies Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming, but its directory listing does not establish Gyre’s current setup, pricing, uptime, or detailed recovery features. Check those capabilities directly with any provider.
Before you schedule the stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, and a person must be at least 16 to live stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Choose your playback and encoding method. Options include encoder software, dedicated hardware, and cloud services. Confirm that the method can automate the playlist or loop, reconnect after interruptions, and support your intended runtime.
- Check rights for every video and audio track. Use content you own or are authorized to stream. YouTube’s copyright guidance explains its copyright rules. A live stream may be interrupted or removed if it violates those rules.
- Plan monitoring and archives. YouTube recommends testing in advance, previewing the stream, monitoring stream health, and retaining a local archive where appropriate. Do not assume a 24/7 feed will be saved as one replay: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Schedule and connect a prerecorded live stream
- Prepare the playlist. Put the videos in the order you want, verify their audio and picture, and confirm that you have permission to stream them. Configure your encoder or service to advance through the playlist and loop it if that is the behavior you want. YouTube Studio scheduling does not create this playback automation.
- Create the event in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live to open Live Control Room, then schedule the stream and set its title, description, visibility, and start time. The scheduled page is the event viewers can find or share; your encoder or service still needs to send video when it is time to go live. See YouTube’s live-stream scheduling instructions.
- Copy the ingest details into your encoder or service. In Live Control Room, get the stream URL and stream key and enter them in the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your event. Prefer RTMPS where supported; YouTube describes it as encrypted RTMP over TLS/SSL. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Set compatible video and audio parameters. YouTube’s general encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Choose a bitrate appropriate for your resolution and frame rate using YouTube’s current encoder settings; the available upload capacity must support it.
- Start a test feed and preview it. Start the encoder or service, then check Live Control Room’s preview for picture, sound, and stream health before relying on the event. YouTube recommends setting up encoders ahead of time and leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Start the scheduled event and monitor it. Follow the event’s Live Control Room status and confirm the encoder continues to send the playlist. Test reconnection and playlist behavior before leaving the stream unattended; the details depend on the encoder or provider you chose.
Choose an ingest protocol that your workflow supports
RTMP or RTMPS
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted version of RTMP. It is a practical choice when both YouTube and your encoder or service support it. Use the current stream URL and key supplied by Live Control Room, and match encoder settings to YouTube’s guidance.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
HLS
YouTube also documents HLS ingest, with specific requirements: TS segments of 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT requests, and no byte range. YouTube lists OBS as an encoder that supports HLS output. HLS has higher latency than RTMP, so choose it only when your workflow supports the required format and that trade-off is acceptable. See YouTube’s HLS ingest instructions.

Plan for long streams and replay limits
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that an uninterrupted 24/7 stream will be archived as one replay. If you need a replay, plan separate recordings or segments and verify current YouTube handling for your format and runtime. YouTube also recommends checking local archives and monitoring stream quality.

Troubleshoot common problems
The scheduled page is visible, but no video appears
Scheduling only creates the event page. Check that the encoder or cloud service is running, has the correct event’s stream URL and key, and is actively sending a feed.
YouTube does not accept the stream key or show an incoming signal
Confirm that you copied the current stream URL and key from the correct Live Control Room event and pasted them into the corresponding encoder fields. Check for accidental spaces or an old key, then restart the feed. Keep the key private.
Recommended Free Tools
The feed is unstable or reports poor stream health
Check the encoder’s connection and output settings, then compare the chosen bitrate with available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends 20% headroom; reduce the bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, and test again before relying on a long stream.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The playlist stops or fails to loop
Check the playback service’s playlist order, loop setting, and behavior at the end of the final item. Also confirm how it reconnects after a dropped feed; these controls vary by provider and are not set by scheduling the YouTube event.
The stream is interrupted after using copyrighted material
Review the rights for the video and every audio track, and replace material you are not authorized to stream. Consult YouTube’s copyright guidance before restarting.
A long-running stream has no single archived replay
Do not rely on the under-12-hour automatic archive statement for a 24/7 feed. Use a recording or segmentation plan and check YouTube’s current handling for your stream duration.
