Schedule each event in YouTube Studio, then use FFmpeg to send the matching video feed to its stream URL and key. For simultaneous streams, first decide whether you are duplicating one program or sending different programs: FFmpeg’s tee muxer can share one encode across several destinations for the same feed, while distinct feeds may need separate encoding and more upload capacity. YouTube Help currently lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key; these are active-stream limits, not limits on future scheduled events.
Understand what “multiple streams” means
There are three different workflows that can be described as multiple YouTube live streams:
- Separate events at different times: Schedule each event in YouTube Studio and run the corresponding FFmpeg job when it is time to broadcast.
- Simultaneous, distinct programs: Send different video or audio to separate scheduled events. Each output may need its own input, mapping, encoding, and stream key.
- One program duplicated to several destinations: Send the same encoded audio/video to multiple YouTube events. FFmpeg’s tee muxer can encode once and write that program to multiple outputs.
The instructions below focus on scheduled events that are live at the same time, while distinguishing duplicated and distinct feeds. YouTube Help currently says a channel can have 10 active streams, with up to 3 active streams per stream key. These figures describe streams that are active, not how many events can be scheduled for the future. See YouTube’s live-streaming help for current requirements and limits.
Prepare the YouTube channel and schedule each event
1. Enable live streaming ahead of time
Use a verified channel and enable live streaming before you need to broadcast. YouTube says first-time enablement may take at least 24 hours. The channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check the channel’s eligibility and Live Control Room rather than assuming that location alone determines access. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance has the current requirements.

2. Create a scheduled event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream.
- Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream.
- Enter the event details, audience and scheduling information, then save.
- Repeat for every event you intend to run. Record which FFmpeg feed is meant for each event.
Scheduling creates an event and its watch page; it does not start FFmpeg or make the event live. A scheduled event and an incoming encoder feed are separate parts of the workflow. For the current Studio flow, consult YouTube’s schedule-a-live-stream instructions.
3. Copy the matching ingest URL and stream key
For every scheduled event, open it in Live Control Room and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. Match each pair to the intended event. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address,” so keep them private: anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to that destination. Do not paste keys into public posts, screenshots, or shared command histories. If a key is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio. Use the destination and key associated with the event you are actually sending. For distinct scheduled feeds, keep a distinct destination/key pairing for each feed. Prefer RTMPS when your installed FFmpeg build and workflow support it; RTMPS is RTMP carried over TLS/SSL. Copy the address shown in Live Control Room instead of guessing an ingest hostname. YouTube’s current encoder guidance is at YouTube’s recommended encoder settings.
Choose an FFmpeg layout for the feeds
Same video and audio sent to multiple events
When every destination should receive the same program, use FFmpeg’s tee muxer to write one encoded audio/video stream to multiple outputs. That can avoid encoding the same source repeatedly. Tee is a pseudo-muxer: it does not automatically choose which streams to send, so explicitly map the intended video and audio with -map, and specify the output format for each destination when needed.

The exact command depends on your source, codec settings, FFmpeg build, and the URLs and keys shown for the events. Treat the following as a command structure, not a copy-and-run command; replace each bracketed item with your actual value and configure the tee output syntax supported by your FFmpeg build:

Different programs or output settings
If events need different source material, layouts, frame rates or bitrates, tee alone cannot create those differences: it duplicates an encoded program. Configure separate outputs and the required processing for each feed, or run separate FFmpeg processes. Account for the additional encoding work and total upload bitrate. A single command or process does not guarantee that the computer or network can handle every combination.
Set resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframes
Choose each output’s codec, resolution, frame rate and bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder settings for the intended stream. Avoid applying one set of assumptions to every feed: a higher resolution, frame rate or bitrate increases the load on the encoder and connection. Configure keyframes according to YouTube’s current guidance, and verify the actual output settings for every separately encoded feed. FFmpeg option names and placement matter, so check the documentation for your installed version and put input options before the relevant input and output options before their output.

With multiple simultaneous outputs, estimate the combined upload bitrate before the event. A shared encode duplicated to two destinations still requires sending data to both destinations; distinct high-bitrate outputs can add both encoding and network load. Test using the actual computer, connection and ingest route. No country-specific bandwidth or eligibility conclusion follows from being in India.

- Start FFmpeg early enough for each scheduled event. YouTube advises starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Open each event’s Live Control Room and confirm that its incoming preview appears and that audio and video are correct.
- Check the stream health indicators and confirm that the intended event is receiving the intended feed.
- When ready, click Go live in YouTube’s Live Control Room if the event requires it. Scheduling and receiving an encoder feed do not themselves necessarily make the event public and live.
- Monitor the stream while it is running. YouTube recommends testing failover and checking stream quality in advance. See its streaming tips.
What is different for creators in India?
The reviewed official YouTube instructions describe a general scheduling and encoder workflow; they do not identify a separate India-only scheduling path. Use the same Studio steps, but verify eligibility and event controls on the particular channel. Before a live event, test the actual upload route and the aggregate bitrate for all simultaneous outputs. Channel status, available network capacity and local requirements cannot be inferred from country alone.
Troubleshoot common failures
An event is scheduled, but no preview appears
- Cause: Scheduling did not start an encoder, or FFmpeg is sending to another event’s URL/key.
- Fix: Start the encoder and compare its destination with the URL and key in that event’s Live Control Room.
One destination works, but another does not
- Cause: A tee output is malformed, its format is missing, the mapping is wrong, or the second event’s credentials do not match.
- Fix: Check the FFmpeg log and each output’s URL/key independently; verify explicit maps and per-output format options against the tee muxer documentation.
Audio or video is missing
- Cause: The command did not map the required stream, or the selected input does not contain that stream.
- Fix: Inspect the input streams and explicitly map the desired video and audio. Confirm the preview in Live Control Room before going live.
The stream is unstable or reports poor quality
- Cause: Combined output bitrate exceeds reliable upload capacity, or encoding demands exceed the computer’s capacity.
- Fix: Lower output bitrate or complexity, reduce the number of simultaneous distinct encodes, and test the full configuration over the actual connection. A wired Ethernet connection can help avoid some local Wi-Fi variability, but it cannot guarantee sufficient upload capacity or prevent outages.
The channel cannot start a live stream
- Cause: Live streaming has not been enabled, first-time activation is still pending, or the channel has a restriction.
- Fix: Check YouTube Studio’s eligibility and restrictions. First enablement may take at least 24 hours, and YouTube’s guidance requires no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days.
Keep copyright and channel rules in view
FFmpeg transports and encodes media; it does not grant rights to the footage, music, narration or other material in the stream. Use content you own or are licensed to broadcast, and check YouTube’s policies and the event’s settings before scheduling. Repeated or reused material is not automatically exempt from copyright or platform rules because it is streamed live or played from a file. Review YouTube’s current policies for the channel and content you plan to publish.
