To schedule a gaming VOD rerun, first create the upcoming event in YouTube Studio, then send the VOD to that event from OBS. Scheduling creates the watch page and reminder option; OBS plays and loops the footage. A loop alone does not schedule or publish a YouTube live event.
Schedule the YouTube event

In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage, then schedule a stream. Scheduling gives viewers an upcoming watch page they can visit and lets them set reminders.

Set the event’s title, description, visibility, and start time. If you reuse a previous event’s settings, review the copied metadata and stream settings rather than assuming they are still right.

Keep the event open in Live Control Room. You will use its ingest details to connect OBS, and its preview and stream-health indicators to check the incoming feed.

Set up the VOD in OBS
Loop one VOD

In OBS Studio, create or select a scene for the rerun.

In the Sources panel, select + → Media Source, give it a name, and select the local video file.

Enable Loop if the VOD should restart automatically after it reaches the end. Confirm the source fits the canvas and that its audio is audible in the OBS mixer.

OBS documents common formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. If your file does not play, check that its format and codecs are supported by your installed OBS version.

Play a sequence of VODs
For a playlist, add OBS’s VLC Video source, select the files, and enable Loop Playlist. This source requires VLC to be installed. A single Media Source with Loop suits one repeating file; VLC Video suits a sequence that should cycle through multiple files.

Connect OBS to the scheduled event

In Live Control Room, open the scheduled stream’s settings and copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Alternatively, use the YouTube service integration if it is available in your installed encoder.

Treat the stream key as a password. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not publish or share it; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.

Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends this secure ingest option.

If you reuse a previous event, the copied settings may include the stream key. Check that OBS and the event use the intended key before starting. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
Choose stream settings and test the feed
Use a bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably. YouTube advises testing before going live, reviewing the incoming preview, and monitoring stream health. It recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency, says not to exceed 4 seconds, and recommends up to 60 fps. These are published encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection will sustain a chosen quality. Start the OBS stream early enough to inspect it in Live Control Room before the scheduled event.

Check the preview for video framing, playback, and audio. Confirm the event’s watch page is reachable from your channel or its shared URL.

Watch the stream-health status. If the feed is unstable, reduce the encoder’s output demands to a quality your upload connection can maintain, then test again.

At the scheduled time, use Live Control Room’s Go Live control if the event is set for manual start. YouTube also documents auto-start and auto-stop settings, but available controls can differ by encoder and current interface; verify the settings shown for your event rather than assuming OBS will start the event automatically.

When the rerun is finished, end the broadcast in YouTube and stop the OBS feed as appropriate.
Check rights before rerunning gaming footage
Scheduling and encoder setup do not establish that any particular VOD is cleared for rebroadcast. Check the rights for the gameplay, music, trailers, and other audio or video in the recording, along with applicable game-publisher terms and current YouTube rules. YouTube’s live-stream settings documentation notes that rights settings matter, but it does not determine whether a specific gaming VOD is permitted.

The VOD loops in OBS but no event appears on YouTube: Media Source controls playback, not publishing. Schedule the event in YouTube Studio and connect OBS to its ingest details.

YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Check that the event’s stream URL and key are correct in OBS, that the event is the one you intend to use, and that the encoder is connected. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and replace it in OBS.

The preview appears, but viewers cannot watch the event: Check the event’s visibility and start status in Live Control Room. For a manually started event, use its Go Live control at the event time.

The VOD ends instead of restarting: Reopen the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, verify that the VLC Video source is used and Loop Playlist is enabled.

A playlist source is unavailable: OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC. Install VLC, then reconfigure or reopen the source.

Video or audio is missing in the preview: Check the selected file, scene layout, source visibility, and OBS audio mixer before going live.

Stream health is poor or intermittent: Test again and choose a bitrate and quality that the available upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends a reliable connection and a pre-stream test.
