You still need a supported source to send the video, and YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived. For a 24/7 presence, plan shorter sessions and keep local recordings rather than assuming one uninterrupted broadcast will be saved.
What “24/7 storytime” means on YouTube
It can mean one broadcast intended to remain live around the clock, or a calendar of separate storytime streams. YouTube Studio lets you schedule an upcoming stream; the schedule does not create, loop, or transmit the program feed. YouTube’s guidance does not establish that separate scheduled sessions will hand off seamlessly or run without operator or encoder monitoring.
For a children’s channel where preserving replays matters, a practical plan is to use sessions shorter than 12 hours, retain local recordings, and clearly communicate start times. A single 24-hour stream risks not being captured as an archive, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable after 12 hours. These are planning implications of YouTube’s stated limits, not a required schedule format.
Check channel eligibility before scheduling
YouTube says a channel needs to be verified and have no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days to stream. The stated minimum creator age is 16. Review YouTube’s livestream eligibility and setup guidance before building the schedule.

Schedule a storytime livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live.
- Create the event. Enter the stream title, description, privacy, and other details. Choose the option to schedule the stream for a later date and time, then confirm the scheduled stream’s details. See Manage live stream settings.
- Set the audience accurately. For storytime content deliberately directed at children, select Made for Kids. YouTube says creators are responsible for identifying whether content is made for kids; stories and other subject matter that show intent to target children are likely to qualify. - Choose how to send the program feed. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. Pick the method that can reliably deliver your storytime video for the length of each session. The scheduled event itself does not transmit anything. For webcam setup, consult Create a live stream via webcam.
- Publish the schedule and verify it. Check the scheduled event’s date, time, privacy, audience designation, and stream method. A scheduled stream may appear to subscribers as upcoming, but do not rely on reminder notifications for a Made for Kids stream.
Set up sessions and archives with the 12-hour limit in mind
Why a single all-day stream is risky
YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup. Its live stream archiving guidance explains the limit; its DVR guidance notes that rewind can be limited on very long streams.
A workable schedule design
- Split the day into sessions shorter than 12 hours if YouTube archives are important.
- Keep a local recording of each session rather than treating the YouTube archive as the only copy.
- Allow time between sessions for the next start and any needed checks. The official guidance does not promise a seamless transition between scheduled streams.
- Tell viewers whether to expect separate start times or a continuous-looking channel presence; do not imply one permanent live URL or uninterrupted handoff unless your setup actually provides it.
What Made for Kids changes for livestream viewers
Made for Kids streams have feature restrictions. YouTube lists live chat, chat donations, and reminder notifications among the unavailable features; comments and personalized ads are also restricted or disabled, although contextual ads may still appear. Because reminder notifications are unavailable for Made for Kids streams, use clear schedules and channel updates to help families know when a session begins. Do not promise chat-based participation on these streams.
Choose a production method that can support the schedule
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as livestream methods. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not benchmark these options for long-running storytime broadcasts. Choose based on your ability to keep the source running, manage the connection, and retain a local recording. An event schedule is not a substitute for a running source or monitoring plan.

Rights and content checks before going live
Use stories, narration, music, illustrations, and recordings that you have the rights to stream and archive. A familiar story is not automatically free to use: copyright status can depend on territory and edition, so verify it rather than assuming a title is public domain. Also confirm that the stream’s audience setting reflects its actual intended audience.
