You can broadcast a continuous ghazal playlist to YouTube with OBS, but start with music and artwork you have cleared for the intended use—not with encoder settings. Confirm the rights for every recording and its underlying composition and lyrics, arrange any needed Content ID allowlisting, then test the stream before leaving it running. OBS sends the broadcast from your own computer, so that computer, its power and its internet connection must remain available.
Clear the ghazals and visuals before building the stream
A recording can involve separate rights in the sound recording and in the underlying musical and literary works. IPRS explains that its remit covers musical works and associated literary works, while sound-recording rights are administered separately; permissions from one rights holder do not automatically establish permission from the others. Its repertoire database is updated continuously but may not be exhaustive. Check who controls each specific recording and its composition and lyrics, and get written permission for the exact YouTube use. IPRS explains its licensing categories.
For each track, ask whether the permission covers continuous live transmission, the territories where viewers can watch, monetization, archived playback, and any attribution requirements. Apply the same check to cover art, photographs, animations, and other visuals in the stream. A purchased file, a track being available online, or a general licence does not by itself prove that these uses are cleared. The cited IPRS INTB tariff is expressly scoped to non-interactive internet music streaming services; it should not be treated as blanket permission for every creator, YouTube channel, or catalogue. If the scope of a proposed licence is unclear, seek written advice from the relevant rights holders and, if needed, an India-qualified music-rights professional.
YouTube’s Live Stream Terms put responsibility for obtaining necessary rights on the stream provider. They state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licences) and any other royalty participants.” Read the Live Stream Terms and Conditions and confirm that your permission also meets the legal requirements for the territories in which you plan to stream.

Rights clearance and YouTube’s automated enforcement are separate. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a stream may be interrupted even when its operator says they have a licence. Ask the relevant owner or label whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID, and complete that process before the broadcast. YouTube describes the issue in its guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Make a rights inventory
Before importing files into OBS, create a track-by-track record so a permission gap is visible before it becomes a live-stream interruption.

- Track title, recording source, and the recording’s rights holder.
- Composition and lyric rights holders, and the written permission that covers each.
- Whether live YouTube use, planned territories, monetization, and archived playback are permitted.
- Any credit or attribution requirements, and the contact for Content ID allowlisting.
- Separate rights details for every visual asset used with the music.
Enable YouTube Live and rehearse before launch
- Enable live streaming in advance. If this is your channel’s first live stream, verify the account and enable live streaming at least 24 hours before the planned start. YouTube for Artists gives this lead time in its Going Live for Music Channels guidance.
- Prepare the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Follow the current Live Control Room prompts to create or schedule the stream and obtain its stream key. Treat the key like a password: use it only in your own encoder and do not publish or share it.
- Build the OBS scene. Use artwork or a simple visual loop you are allowed to use. Add an authorized local audio source or playlist; do not rebroadcast a consumer music service or another YouTube stream as a substitute for clearing rights. For a playlist workflow, configure the source to advance through the authorized files and repeat them, then verify the transition from the final item back to the first. Exact source controls vary by source type and OBS version, so confirm the controls shown in your installed version.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select the YouTube service if available, and enter the stream key supplied by the Live Control Room. Keep the key private. If you select a server manually, use the destination supplied by YouTube rather than a third-party address.
- Set a conservative output profile. In Settings > Output, choose an encoder and bitrate your computer and upload connection can sustain continuously. In Settings > Video, choose the output resolution and frame rate. An audio-led stream does not need 4K; a static or lightly animated image at 720p or 1080p is usually a more proportionate starting point than sending unnecessary high-resolution video.
- Start an unlisted test stream. Check the audience-facing playback, audio level and clipping, image, metadata, stream health in YouTube Studio, playlist transitions, and rights-holder workflow. Stop and correct problems before promoting or scheduling a public continuous stream. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted rehearsal.
Use YouTube’s encoder settings as the baseline
YouTube supports RTMP or RTMPS delivery and documents H.264, H.265, and AV1 video options, along with AAC or MP3 audio. The right profile depends on the resolution and frame rate you choose and on the sustained upload capacity of the connection. Its guidance recommends CBR and automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default; check the current options displayed in your account because encoder guidance and available choices can change. These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not results of a test on your equipment. Test the selected profile over the same connection and with the same OBS scene you plan to use. A connection that briefly reaches the target bitrate is not necessarily reliable enough to sustain it around the clock. Keep the local OBS setup running around the clock
With OBS on a local computer, the public stream depends on more than the playlist. The computer must stay powered on and stable, OBS must continue sending data, the internet connection must hold, and the source must not run out or stop. You need a person or a reliable monitoring routine to notice a dropped broadcast, a rights warning, or a playlist problem and respond. The sources do not establish a guaranteed maximum continuous runtime for a particular OBS computer or network setup.
- Power: prevent sleep or shutdown while broadcasting. An optional UPS may help with short power interruptions, but it will not fix an internet outage and is not a substitute for a reliable power plan.
- Network: use a stable connection and test sustained upload performance. Keep other heavy uploads or downloads from competing with the stream where possible.
- Playlist: use local files you have cleared, verify the repeat behavior in rehearsal, and make sure the source can continue through the complete rotation.
- Monitoring: check YouTube Studio stream health and designate someone to respond to interruption notices, audio failures, or a lost connection.
- Recovery: keep the stream key private and know how to restart OBS and resume the broadcast. Do not promise uninterrupted service: local power, computer, software, connection, and rights issues can all stop the feed.
Plan separately for a recording of the livestream
Do not depend on YouTube to preserve one complete replay of a 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local recording backup. If a complete archive matters, record locally and plan separate broadcasts or recordings under the 12-hour threshold rather than assuming a continuous day-long stream will produce one replay. Local recording uses additional disk space. The amount depends on the chosen encoding settings and duration, so estimate storage from your actual profile and retain enough free capacity before starting. Check that the recording is being written and can be played back; a backup that was never successfully recorded cannot recover the programme.

What continuous music viewing means for a ghazal channel
YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is platform-wide context, not a measure of Indian viewers or ghazal-stream demand. A continuous channel still depends on a clearly described programme, properly cleared music, and a broadcast setup that can remain available for its intended schedule.
