Schedule the event in YouTube Studio, prepare and test your playlist, then send its output to the scheduled event using FFmpeg and the event’s server URL and stream key. FFmpeg supplying the video feed does not itself start the public broadcast: preview the incoming stream in YouTube Live Control Room and click Go live when ready.
Before you begin
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old to livestream. Confirm live streaming is enabled on the channel before preparing the event. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Have the source videos ready, know whether Indian-language content is audio, subtitles/captions, or text embedded in the picture, and make sure you can test the actual files before the broadcast. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer is suited to sequential playback when the files have compatible stream layouts, codecs, and time bases; it is not a universal playlist solution for unlike media.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Choose to reuse prior settings or create a new stream. Enter the event title and description, choose the audience and privacy settings, and set the scheduled start time.
- Save the event. YouTube provides a watch page that you can share for promotion and reminders.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room when preparing to broadcast. Keep this page available: it is where you obtain connection details, preview the incoming feed, monitor stream health, and start the event.
The scheduled event and the video playback are separate. Creating the event does not make FFmpeg play files, and starting FFmpeg does not by itself click Go live for you. YouTube’s workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Prepare and test the playlist in FFmpeg
Check file compatibility first
The FFmpeg concat demuxer reads a text script containing one file directive for each input, then processes the listed files in order. According to the FFmpeg documentation, inputs need matching streams, codecs, and time bases for reliable concatenation. Files with different layouts or encoding may need preprocessing or a different playback approach. Incorrect duration metadata can produce gaps or artifacts.
Build the list using paths and escaping appropriate to your operating system and FFmpeg build. Because file formats, codecs, paths, and desired looping behavior vary, there is no single copy-and-paste command that is reliable for every playlist. Confirm your installed FFmpeg version and test the exact command and files locally before using them on a scheduled broadcast.

Test transitions and looping
- Play the entire sequence locally, not just the first file. Check every transition for pauses, artifacts, missing audio, or abrupt changes.
- If the playlist must repeat, test the transition from the last item back to the first and verify the loop behavior against your installed FFmpeg version.
- If files do not meet concat compatibility requirements, preprocess them to a consistent format or use a workflow that handles each item separately. Test that workflow end to end before the event.
Connect FFmpeg to the scheduled event
- In YouTube Live Control Room, open the scheduled event and find the encoder server URL and stream key.
- Configure FFmpeg to send a feed in a format and protocol accepted by the event. Use the server URL and key as the encoder destination, following YouTube’s encoder instructions and the requirements of your FFmpeg setup.
- Protect the stream key. It is a secret credential that allows an encoder to send video to your channel. Do not publish it in a script, repository, screenshot, or log excerpt. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. See Manage live stream settings.
- Start FFmpeg early enough for YouTube to receive the feed. In Live Control Room, wait for the preview, inspect it, and click Go live at the appropriate time.
- Monitor stream health and verify the event appears as expected on the channel and watch page.
YouTube’s streaming guidance recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event, leaving time to resolve connection or media problems. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer continuous playlist will be archived in full. Guidance is available in Streaming tips and the encoder instructions linked above.
Validate Indian-language audio, subtitles, and on-screen text
The scheduling and transport steps do not depend on the language of the video, but you should validate the actual Indian-language material through the full playback path. First identify what viewers will receive:

- Audio: listen to representative passages in the local test and YouTube preview; check intelligibility, channel balance, and that the intended audio track is present.
- Burned-in text: because the text is part of the picture, viewers generally cannot turn it off. Inspect script shaping, diacritics, line breaks, contrast, and readability in the preview.
- Separate captions or subtitles: check timing, legibility, and whether viewers can access the intended track on the actual watch page. Do not assume a particular language or font will render correctly without testing.
YouTube documents an embedded EIA 608/CEA 708 live-caption workflow. Its help page says that this standard supports up to four language tracks, while YouTube currently supports one track for this method. That does not establish availability for any particular Indian language, nor does it cover every caption route. Check the current live caption requirements and test the exact language and viewer experience before relying on captions.
Check upload bandwidth and latency
Measure upload capacity rather than relying on download speed. YouTube recommends reserving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the combined bitrate of the stream. Include other devices using the connection and any additional stream in that total; test under conditions similar to the broadcast. The recommendation appears in YouTube’s streaming tips.

Latency is the delay between capture and viewer playback. Lower latency can increase buffering, so choose it only if interaction requires it and test for stability with the expected audience’s connection conditions. The available latency settings are covered in YouTube’s live stream settings.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The scheduled watch page exists, but no video appears. | The event was scheduled, but FFmpeg is not sending a feed, or the encoder destination is incorrect. | Check that FFmpeg is running and configured with the scheduled event’s server URL and stream key. Wait for the Live Control Room preview before starting the event. |
| YouTube does not accept the encoder connection. | The stream key may be wrong, reset, exposed, or paired with an incorrect server URL or output configuration. | Confirm the connection details in the correct event. If the key was exposed, reset it and update the encoder configuration. |
| A transition has a gap, artifact, or missing stream. | Input files may differ in streams, codecs, or time bases, or duration metadata may be inaccurate. | Test the files and transitions locally; standardize incompatible media or use a different workflow. Do not troubleshoot the first time during the live event. |
| The stream buffers or loses health. | Upload capacity may be insufficient or shared, or the selected latency may be too aggressive for the connection. | Measure outbound bandwidth, reserve YouTube’s recommended headroom, reduce competing upload use, and test an appropriate latency setting. |
| Indian-language text is garbled, clipped, or mistimed. | The issue may be in the source render, subtitle path, font/script handling, or timing. | Inspect the exact source and preview across representative passages. Correct the media or caption workflow and retest; do not assume YouTube or FFmpeg will automatically fix script rendering. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I schedule the stream and have FFmpeg start it automatically at the scheduled time?
Scheduling creates the event and watch page; FFmpeg supplies the feed. The operator still previews the incoming stream and starts the event in YouTube Studio.
Can I use this workflow for a continuous playlist longer than 12 hours?
A continuous feed may run longer, but YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on that behavior to archive a longer stream in full.
