Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Schedule the live event in YouTube Studio, then start FFmpeg in coordination with it. FFmpeg’s -re option paces a file in real time; it does not schedule a process to start at a future Indian Standard Time (IST) wall-clock time. Check the time zone displayed in YouTube Studio before saving the event, since the current Live Control Room time-zone selector or default is not established by the available official documentation.
What YouTube schedules—and what FFmpeg does
A scheduled YouTube live event and the FFmpeg encoder are separate parts of the setup. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow is to connect the encoder, send the feed, confirm the preview, and click Go live in Live Control Room. Scheduling an event does not, by itself, make FFmpeg begin running at the event time. YouTube’s live-stream scheduling guidance describes the event workflow.
FFmpeg’s -re option reads an input at its native frame rate (equivalent to -readrate 1). That is useful when sending a media file as a live feed, but it is not a calendar or wall-clock scheduler. The FFmpeg documentation describes read-rate controls, not a future start time for a process.
Schedule the YouTube event for the intended IST time
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, open Manage, and choose Schedule stream.
- Set the intended event date and time. Before saving, inspect the time zone displayed in the current scheduling interface and confirm that the date and time correspond to the intended IST wall-clock time.
- Save the event. YouTube says a scheduled live stream can have an upcoming watch page that viewers can find and set reminders for.
Do not assume that YouTube’s displayed time zone is IST, or that its default is the same as your computer’s. The official material available here does not establish the current Live Control Room time-zone selector or default. YouTube’s separate help for scheduling video publication discusses entering a time zone for a video; that is not proof of the exact behavior of the live-event scheduler. - 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect FFmpeg and bring the event live
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key.
- Configure FFmpeg to send the intended source to that URL using the key. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, place it in a public script, or share it.
- If the input is a media file that should play at its native rate, use
-rebefore the input option, for example:ffmpeg -re -i input.mp4 .... Complete the output options and destination with the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. This example shows input pacing only; it is not a complete encoding command for every source or account. - Start the FFmpeg process when you intend it to begin sending the feed. For YouTube’s documented encoder flow, wait for the preview to appear and then click Go live when the event is ready.
- Monitor the event and verify that viewers can access it. YouTube recommends testing the setup and checking that the local archive is intact.
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Use that lead time to confirm the preview and resolve connection or configuration problems before launch. YouTube streaming tips
Make FFmpeg start at a particular wall-clock time
If a file or process must begin sending at a particular IST time, arrange for an external process scheduler or supervising service to start FFmpeg. Configure that scheduler’s time zone deliberately and verify it against the intended event time in YouTube Studio. This is separate from YouTube’s event scheduling and from FFmpeg’s -re input pacing.

FFmpeg’s date parsing distinguishes local time from UTC: a date without a trailing Z is interpreted as local time, while a date with Z is interpreted as UTC. That distinction does not make -re a start-time scheduler. Keep event wall-clock time, the scheduler’s configured zone, and media timestamps separate; confirm the zone in the interfaces you actually use rather than relying on an assumed conversion. Choose the launch approach that fits the stream
- YouTube scheduled event: Use it when you want an upcoming event page, promotion, reminders, and a launch coordinated through Live Control Room.
- External process scheduler: Use one when FFmpeg must begin sending a file or process at a particular wall-clock time. It starts the encoder; it does not replace YouTube’s event setup or any required Go live action.
- Already-live source: If FFmpeg is relaying a live input rather than pacing a file,
-reis not a way to delay the process until the event time. Coordinate the source and event launch separately.
Before choosing, decide whether you need an upcoming event page, whether someone can confirm the preview and click Go live, whether the input is a file or already-live source, and which time zone the event interface and process scheduler use.

Troubleshooting IST scheduling and FFmpeg launch
The event appears at the wrong time
Check the date, time, and zone shown in YouTube Studio before saving. Do not infer the zone from your operating system, FFmpeg timestamps, or a separate YouTube video-publishing screen.
The event is scheduled, but no feed appears
Scheduling creates the event; FFmpeg still has to run and send media. Check that the process started, the stream URL and key were copied correctly, and the preview is receiving the feed.

The preview appears, but the event is not live
For YouTube’s documented encoder workflow, preview is a step before launch. In Live Control Room, click Go live when you are ready to begin the event.
A file runs too quickly or the feed timing is misunderstood
For real-time pacing of a file input, use -re as appropriate. It reads at the input’s native rate; it does not wait until a specified future clock time.

The stream key may have been exposed
Because YouTube treats the key as a password-like credential, keep it private. If it has been shared publicly, use Live Control Room to manage the stream credentials before relying on the setup.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that should keep playing uploaded videos around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing: $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded video playback to YouTube, not a camera-based live feed. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
