YouTube redirects viewers when the source stream ends—not before. The channel sending viewers must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes; another channel’s live stream is selectable only if that channel permits the redirect.
1. Schedule the source live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Select Manage, then Schedule stream.
- Choose Reuse settings or Create new, then configure the stream, including its privacy setting.
- Complete the scheduling flow. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming in the subscriber feed, where viewers can select Notify me for a reminder.

2. Add the redirect to the scheduled stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Content, then the Live tab.
- Hover over the scheduled source stream and select Edit.
- Open Customization.
- Under Redirect, select Add.
- Choose a Premiere, or search for another channel’s live stream.
- Save the configuration if YouTube prompts you to do so.
The selected video or stream is the destination; the scheduled broadcast you edited is the source. The handoff happens after the source ends. This setting does not move viewers away while you are still broadcasting. See YouTube’s Live Redirect instructions.
3. Choose an eligible destination

The channel sending viewers must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. For another channel’s live stream, that channel controls redirect access. Its options can include channels it subscribes to, all channels, or specific approved channels; a specific-channel list can contain up to 100 channels. The destination creator can manage these settings in YouTube Studio. These requirements and controls are detailed in YouTube Help.

Why the destination does not appear
- The destination is not active or upcoming. The picker is not a directory of every channel or past broadcast.
- The destination channel has not permitted your channel. Ask its creator to check redirect permissions in YouTube Studio.
- You are looking for a destination that is not an eligible type. The documented options are a Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
TeamYouTube’s Live Redirect announcement also explains that the picker is limited to streams or Premieres that are active or upcoming and whose creators’ permissions allow the redirect. If the destination meets those conditions but still is not listed, confirm its timing and permission settings with its creator.
Prepare viewers for the handoff
- If the destination is a Premiere, set it up before configuring the source stream.
- Tell viewers to wait a few seconds after the live stream ends while their screens reload to the destination.
- If appropriate, allow other streamers to redirect to the destination and pin a chat message on the Premiere watch page directing viewers to the live stream. These are YouTube recommendations, not prerequisites.
