Short answer: YouTube Studio documents how to schedule a single live event, but its published instructions do not document either a UTC-specific scheduling control or a recurring scheduler for a 24/7 playlist. Use UTC to coordinate the intended start instant, then enter the corresponding time in Studio; a continuous prerecorded playlist requires an encoder or service that actually supports continuous playback. Verify that provider’s UTC, recurrence, recovery, and archive behavior before relying on it.
What YouTube Studio scheduling does—and does not—do
YouTube’s documented workflow creates a scheduled live event. The encoder still has to send a feed, and the event must be launched from Live Control Room. That is different from setting a recurring playlist to run forever at a particular UTC time. YouTube’s instructions for creating an encoder stream and managing stream settings do not document a recurring 24/7 playlist scheduler or a UTC time-zone control in Studio. YouTube’s encoder instructions and live stream settings guidance explain the event workflow.
For a documentary channel, the distinction matters: scheduling an event does not itself keep prerecorded films playing continuously. The continuous feed must come from your encoder or a service that provides that function. Check the provider’s current documentation for recurring playback, time-zone interpretation, restart behavior, and what happens if the feed or connection fails.
Coordinate a start time in UTC without mistaking it for a Studio setting
Agree on one unambiguous instant
Choose the date and time in UTC and write it with a Z suffix, for example 2026-10-03T20:00Z. That notation identifies the intended instant independently of any team member’s location.

Convert only when entering or communicating local display time
If Studio or a scheduling tool presents local time, convert the agreed UTC instant using a time-zone-aware calendar or converter. Do not rely on a fixed offset for a location that observes daylight saving time: the offset can change during the year. Confirm the displayed date as well as the clock time, since conversion can move the event to the previous or following calendar day.
This is a time-coordination method, not a claim that YouTube Studio accepts UTC as a distinct setting. If an external encoder or service claims to accept UTC, confirm its current documentation and test a scheduled start before depending on it.

Schedule a YouTube encoder event in Studio
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go Live.
- Create the event. Open Manage, select Schedule Stream, then create a stream or reuse settings from an earlier one. Enter the event details and the converted display time. YouTube says scheduled streams can appear as upcoming, where viewers may opt in to reminders.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your event. YouTube explains the connection in its encoder setup instructions.
- Start the feed and inspect the preview. Start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, and check that the intended video and audio are present.
- Launch the event. Click Go live in Live Control Room when ready. Scheduling creates the upcoming event; it does not replace starting the encoder and launching the event.
Prepare a continuous prerecorded playlist
A 24/7 playlist needs a playback source that remains connected and keeps sending video to YouTube. Before assigning it an unattended schedule, verify these operational details with the encoder or service provider:
- Whether it continuously loops uploaded videos or only schedules separate events.
- Whether schedules accept UTC, how they handle daylight-saving changes, and which time zone is used if none is specified.
- How it resumes after a process, server, or network interruption, and whether it can recover if YouTube drops the stream.
- Whether it offers monitoring or alerts, and how to secure and rotate the stream key.
- How it handles playlists, transitions, and archives, including whether long output is split into separate streams.
These checks are especially important for a documentary playlist: confirm you have the rights to stream every film, excerpt, soundtrack, and other included material on YouTube. A scheduled start time does not establish permission to broadcast or guarantee that YouTube will keep an event available.

Use YouTube’s readiness checks for the event
YouTube’s recommendations are aimed at setting up encoder events; they are not a guarantee of unattended 24/7 uptime. Its streaming tips advise creators to:
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event and start it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- Test backup-encoder failover and verify local archive files.
- Confirm the event is reachable from channel and watch pages and on mobile devices.
- Monitor audio and video quality while the stream is running.
Plan for the archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder instructions do not support promising that one stream running continuously for 24 hours will produce one complete replay. The archive behavior of a third-party continuous-streaming service—including whether it splits output—depends on that service, so verify it directly rather than assuming a 24-hour recording will be available as one video.
