To schedule a 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream, open YouTube Studio > Create > Go live > Manage > Schedule stream, then create a stream or reuse existing settings. Configure an encoder for 3840 Ă— 2160 at 60 fps, connect it with the stream URL and key from YouTube, and start sending video before the event. When the preview appears in Live Control Room, select Go live.
Before you schedule
Make sure the channel can go live
If this is your first live stream, YouTube says enabling live streaming can take up to 24 hours. Its current tips also require a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility early rather than waiting until the event day. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the activation and scheduling workflow; YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover eligibility and preparation.
Confirm that your encoder can output 4K60
You need an encoder—software or standalone hardware—that can actually produce 3840 × 2160 video at 60 frames per second with a codec YouTube supports. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, but support varies by encoder and by its input, operating system, and configuration. Check the exact model or software documentation before building the event around 4K60.
Plan the network and test
Your available upload bandwidth must exceed the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom and testing with a speed test; test representative movement and audio too, since a static test image will not reveal every problem. A reliable wired connection can help, but YouTube does not require Ethernet. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance covers bitrate and testing, and its live-streaming tips discuss connection preparation.

Schedule the event in YouTube Studio

Open YouTube Studio and select Create in the upper-right corner.

Select Go live to open Live Control Room.

Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.

Choose Reuse settings to carry over settings from an earlier stream, or choose Create new. Review the event details and settings, then save.
A scheduled stream gives you an upcoming event page to share. YouTube says the stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can select Notify me. See YouTube’s guidance on managing live stream settings.
Set the encoder for 2160p at 60 fps
Enter the following in your encoder. Labels vary between applications, so use the equivalent control if the wording differs.

Choose a bitrate carefully
YouTube’s English encoder-settings page currently gives AV1/H.265 a 10–40 Mbps range at 2160p60 and recommends 35 Mbps for H.264. Its Spanish localized page instead recommends 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 50 Mbps for H.264. The official pages do not explain the discrepancy, and their figures are presented differently; do not treat them as one universal bitrate rule. Check the current guidance for your codec and region, then test that bitrate on your actual encoder and network. These are live-ingest settings, not upload-encoding recommendations. At the chosen bitrate, YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom. For example, a 35 Mbps stream calls for about 42 Mbps of available upload capacity to leave that margin. That is a planning calculation, not a guarantee of a stable stream: other network traffic and fluctuations can still affect delivery.
Connect, preview, and start the stream

In Live Control Room, open the scheduled stream’s settings and copy its stream URL and stream key. In the encoder, paste them into the server/URL and key fields. If the encoder offers a direct YouTube integration, you can use that instead. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.

Set the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec, rate control, keyframe interval, and bitrate as described above. Confirm that the selected video and audio inputs are the ones you intend to broadcast.

Set up the encoder well ahead of the event. YouTube advises setting it up two hours before the stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. Begin sending the feed early enough for YouTube to receive it and display the preview.

Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Confirm picture, motion, and audio before the scheduled start. When ready to begin the public event, select Go live in Live Control Room.

At the end, select End stream in Live Control Room, then stop sending from the encoder.
What 4K60 does—and does not—mean for viewers
Scheduling creates the event page; it does not make an encoder output 4K60. You must send a 3840 × 2160, 60 fps signal from a compatible encoder, and YouTube must receive it successfully. The source material, capture chain, encoder performance, and network all affect what reaches the platform. Also, YouTube does not offer its “improve for low latency” option for 4K/2160 streams, so plan for normal latency rather than a low-latency 4K event.

Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material in the stream. Scheduling or sending a pre-recorded video as a live feed does not remove copyright obligations. YouTube’s eligibility and restriction rules also apply to the channel; review the current YouTube live-streaming tips before an important event. A successful technical preview is not a guarantee that content is permitted or that the stream will remain available.
Troubleshooting common 4K60 scheduling problems

“Go live” or live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification, restrictions in the past 90 days, and whether first-time activation is still processing. Allow up to 24 hours for activation.

The stream appears at a lower resolution or frame rate: Check that the encoder—not just the scheduled event—is set to 3840 × 2160 and 60 fps. Verify that the encoder, input source, and any capture hardware support that combination.

No preview appears: Recheck the stream URL and key, confirm the encoder is actively sending, and make sure the correct scheduled event is open in Live Control Room. Keep the stream key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.

Stream health shows connection problems: Compare the configured bitrate with available upload bandwidth, reserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and reduce competing network traffic. Test again with the same resolution, frame rate, codec, and motion planned for the event.

The encoder cannot hold 60 fps or drops frames: Check the encoder’s documented limits and processing load. A codec or resolution option in a menu does not prove the full 4K60 combination is supported with your chosen input; test the exact setup before the scheduled broadcast.

You expected low latency: YouTube does not make “improve for low latency” available for 4K/2160 streams. The 4K stream uses normal latency.
