You can schedule a YouTube watch page in advance, then start a continuous study scene by connecting an encoder to YouTube Live. Scheduling creates the event; it does not keep a stream running by itself or guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 broadcasting. For a live camera or study scene, your encoder and its power and internet connection must remain available. YouTube also warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured in the archive at all.
Before scheduling: make sure your channel can go live
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours. Do this well before you announce the stream.
- Choose a setup that can sustain the scene you intend to broadcast. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders; dedicated hardware is optional, not a requirement.
For a study-with-me camera feed, the encoder sends the live camera and scene. A computer-based software encoder depends on that computer, its power and its internet connection staying available. A hardware encoder is another option, but YouTube does not rank one approach as best for this format. A hosted loop of prerecorded footage is a different workflow from a live camera stream.
Schedule the YouTube watch page
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream.
- Choose Reuse settings to carry over a previous stream setup, or create a new stream.
- Set the event details, including its title, visibility and other metadata. Confirm that the privacy setting matches your intended audience.
- Save the schedule and open the resulting watch page. Share its URL in advance if you want viewers to find the event.
A scheduled stream gives viewers an upcoming watch page. It may appear in subscribers’ feeds, and viewers can choose Notify me to get a reminder. Scheduling promotes the planned event; it does not start the encoder or guarantee that the stream will be live at that time. Connect an encoder and start the stream
- In Live Control Room, open the scheduled stream and copy its YouTube server URL and stream key into your encoder. YouTube describes the stream key as the address and password for the feed; treat it as a credential. Do not share it publicly.
- Configure the encoder for the camera or study scene you plan to show. Test the full video and audio path before the scheduled start, not only the encoder’s local preview.
- Start sending the feed from your encoder. In Live Control Room, wait for YouTube’s preview and check that picture and sound are correct.
- When the preview is ready, select Go live in Live Control Room. The scheduled watch page and the encoder feed must both be ready for viewers to see the stream.
- To finish, select End Stream in YouTube and stop sending content from the encoder.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers connecting software or hardware encoders. If the stream key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room before using it again.

What “24/7” does—and does not—mean on YouTube
A scheduled event is not an uptime promise
YouTube documents how to schedule a stream and connect an encoder, but its guidance does not promise that a broadcast will remain uninterrupted indefinitely. A live camera setup can be interrupted by a failed encoder, power loss, internet outage or source problem. Plan how you will notice and respond to interruptions; do not present a scheduled event as a guarantee that the channel will run continuously.
Archive and DVR limits matter after 12 hours
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, record locally and confirm that the recording file is growing while the stream runs. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

DVR can let viewers pause and rewind, but YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek back to before the stream went live. Do not assume late arrivals can rewind to the beginning of a long-running broadcast. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Preflight checklist for a long study stream
YouTube’s general live-stream tips recommend configuring the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. These are preparation recommendations, not an uptime guarantee.

- Verify the channel and enable live streaming early enough to allow for first-time activation.
- Check the scheduled watch page, title, visibility and event details; test that it opens from your channel and on a mobile device.
- Confirm the encoder has the correct server URL and stream key. Keep the key private.
- Start the encoder early, check the Live Control Room preview, and listen and watch for problems in both audio and video.
- If you need a replay, make a local recording and verify that its file is growing.
- Decide how you will monitor the stream and address an encoder, network, power or content-source failure.
- Tell viewers that replay capture and DVR may be limited for a stream exceeding 12 hours.
