You also need an encoder or cloud service to send the video feed, permission to livestream the cartoons, and a plan for archives: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What you need before scheduling
- A verified, eligible channel. YouTube’s current guidance says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16; younger participants are subject to adult-presence conditions. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance for current requirements.
- Livestream rights for every cartoon. Get written permission from the rights holder or an authorized distributor. Confirm that it covers YouTube livestreaming, the territories you intend to reach, continuous or repeated playback, and whether you may retain or publish archives. Owning a DVD or finding a video online does not by itself grant rebroadcast rights.
- A continuous video source. YouTube Studio creates and manages the event; an encoder or streaming service supplies the actual feed. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video for streaming. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- An archive and recovery plan. Decide how you will record locally, monitor playback, and respond if the encoder, internet connection, or stream fails.
Schedule the YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage, then schedule a stream. Enter the title, privacy setting, scheduled start time, and other event details. YouTube’s LiveBroadcasts API also represents scheduled broadcasts with title, start time, and privacy fields, but most creators can use Studio.
- Set the audience designation in Live Control Room. If the stream is directed at children, choose Yes, it’s made for kids. Cartoon subject matter alone does not settle the audience designation; make the choice based on who the stream is directed to. YouTube documents the controls in its live-streaming guidance.
- Choose the encoder or service that will provide the feed. Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key from the event settings into that encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Start the encoder and wait for the video and audio preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check that the correct event is selected, picture and sound are working, and the stream is accessible as intended; then click Go live.
- Before relying on a long-running broadcast, test the workflow, monitoring, local recording, and recovery process. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers setup, while its broadcast lifecycle documentation explains the event’s stages.
Keep the stream running continuously
A scheduled start time is not a 24/7 playout system. The encoder or service must keep sending the video feed; if it stops, the scheduled event does not generate replacement footage on its own. YouTube supports both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders, but its guidance does not establish that one type is best for every channel.
Software or hardware at your location
A software encoder can run on a computer; a hardware encoder is a dedicated device. Either way, continuous operation depends on the equipment and internet connection staying available, plus someone or something detecting problems and restarting or switching over when needed. Plan for power, network outages, software updates, monitoring, and a local recording if those matter to your operation. YouTube recommends testing the event and monitoring audio and video rather than assuming the feed will remain healthy.
Break long operations into sessions when replays matter
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, but its guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The 12-hour figure is an archive threshold, not a maximum allowed broadcast length. If complete replays are important, schedule shorter sessions and keep a local recording as a separate backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR settings.

Set expectations for a made-for-kids livestream
When a livestream is designated made for kids, YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, Super Chat, comments on upcoming streams and archives, and reminder notifications for upcoming streams. Personalized ads are disabled, though contextual ads may appear. Do not plan audience participation, reminders, or personalized advertising as features of this format. See YouTube’s audience-setting guidance.
Protect the channel and the broadcast
Only stream cartoons for which you have documented livestream permission. YouTube identifies a copyright strike on an active stream and a match to another copyrighted live broadcast as reasons that live-streaming access can be restricted. Content ID and copyright processes do not grant you the right to broadcast a programme; resolve rights questions with the rights holder or authorized distributor before the stream goes live. Review YouTube’s live-streaming restriction guidance.

Keep the permission record, territories, permitted use, and archive terms together with your production notes. YouTube’s ad eligibility and monetization features depend on channel eligibility and the broadcast’s status, so do not assume that a licensed stream will earn revenue.
Troubleshoot common problems
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No preview in Live Control Room | The encoder is not sending a feed, or it is using the wrong event details. | Confirm the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key match the scheduled event. Keep the key private; reset it if compromised. |
| Preview works, but the event has not started publicly | The encoder feed is present, but the broadcast has not been started in Live Control Room. | Verify the correct event and preview, then select Go live. |
| The stream stops unexpectedly | The encoder, computer or hardware, power, or internet connection may have failed. | Check the feed source and network, restore the encoder, and monitor whether the event recovers. Test a recovery procedure before depending on continuous service. |
| The full 24-hour replay is missing | YouTube does not guarantee capture for streams longer than 12 hours. | Use shorter broadcast sessions if YouTube archives are required, and retain a local recording for a separate copy. |
| Chat, comments, or reminders are unavailable | These features are disabled for livestreams designated made for kids. | Do not treat this as an encoder fault; plan the format without those features. |
| A copyright notice or live restriction appears | The stream may lack the necessary livestream permission or may match another copyrighted live broadcast. | Pause or resolve the rights issue with the rights holder or authorized distributor; do not assume that access to a copy authorizes rebroadcast. |
